Does anyone know if having Tonsils removed can help improve a singers vocal range.

I have noticed I suffer from sore throats about 4-5 times a year and sometimes find it a little hard to swallow when soar.

Also, I cannot for the life of me sing real powerfully sometimes because it feels like air is being blocked or something...Would gettting tonsils removed help in a situation like this?

Its not just for the singing part...but the curing of soar throats would be a big help too..

You can find quite a few peer-reviewed scientific studies on this very subject by just doing a google search. Most of the ones I found stated that there is not a direct coorelation between having toncils removed and singing voice. Some patients report that their voice does change, but it doesn't affect the quality of their singing voice, some report that their singing voice got worse, and come report that their singing voice got better.

I have no info for you, but I can commiserate.  I've been fighting colds and sinus infections all this winter, and it's DEFINITELY affected my singing.  As for my throat, I've had a couple mornings this winter where after a night of singing, I felt like I turned my larynx inside out, and could hardly swallow anything for a while.

Read about his tonsilectomy about a year ago.  I think this lowerd his voice ALMOST half an octave... 5 semitones.

Dan Fogelberg;

Early in your career much was made of stage fright or lack of dependability. A show at Dodger stadium with Elton John and the Eagles is often sited. Did you cancel shows due to stage fright?

Quote:
Good Lord, no! I’ve been performing in front of audiences since I was 12 years old, it’s like breathing to me. Unfortunately, during my 20’s, I had a set of badly infected tonsils, which would flare up at the most inopportune times, make me very ill and force me to cancel concerts. The Dodger Stadium show in Los Angeles was canceled because I had a 103 degree fever and was unable to leave Colorado. In 1980 I finally had the tonsils removed which radically improved my overall health but lowered the pitch of my voice. To me, it was certainly a worth while trade off.
