I've known several very tame pet raccoons, as well as other tame 'carnivore's such as ferretts and foxes.
Sure it's a little unusual... but if they're handled correctly these animals can become quite tame. Of course, that's a little different from being truly 'domesticated', but at least on an individual basis, many carnivores can live with humans comfortably. Of course, one should keep in mind that ANY 'wild' animal takes special care & handling to get to the point where could be considered 'tame' and true, some never get to that point. Most exotic pets end up leading wretched lives stuck in a small dirty cage outside.

I saw quite a few 'different' fruits in those pics... what does a 'durian' taste like? if it's even possible to describe...

You're probably thinking of hyenas Steve.... coyotes are a type of wild canid and can interbreed with dogs. Hyena females are hermaphrodites.

You are correct Seby, I WAS thinking of Hyena's ! Aren't They hermaphrodites ?
Yeah, it's sad about Ferret's, because I think the are among the three most common domestic pet in our country, yet they are VERY susceptible to immuno-deficiency illnesses, and suffer ALOT because owners just don't take care of them properly.. There are also MANY ferret abuse sites, which IS a good thing considering they can be tough little ones to care for, and people can be pretty (@$%!) cruel
Did you ever read the poem "The easter bunny" ? It breaks my heart, It's from the "house rabbit" society, and it's a DAMN good poem... the title is
"in my cage"

I thought they were... until I read the article here: http://www.ultimatefieldguide.com/spotted_hyena.htmIt seems that the females have 'equipment' which make them 'appear' to be hermaphrodites, when in fact they just have oddly shaped equipment. The article is pretty interesting. The cubs, at birth, will fight (to the death!) if they are both females. yikes! The first, I'm sad to say, I didn't really understand how to care for and I ended up finding another home for him. At least I was somewhat responsible in that respect. The second ferret I had was tame when I got him. He was very loving and friendly and became the 'mascot' at the pet store I ran at the time. He not only had a huge cage where he could climb & play, but was handled every day. He was one of the lucky ones!! Steven Kaplan wrote: Did you ever read the poem "The easter bunny" ? I had never seen it before, but it is very sad (and even more sad, accurate). I've seen too many neglected critters. Of course dogs & cats (and any other animals who share their lives with us) can suffer too. How many dogs live their entire lives within the space of a length of chain? It breaks my heart because dogs are such social animals. Of all the animals, cats are probably the 'luckiest' since they are generally not subjected to being caged or chained. I don't know how many times in my life I've been embarrassed to call myself 'human' after seeing the abuses we subject other species to.
