I finally found the perfect rackmount computer case that doesn't cost 200-300 bucks...This one will work perfectly and not be so deep it sticks too far out the back of my rack....I can simply swap in everything I already have.

You guys who feel limited by laptops might wanna consider same. I just tried to order it, but they are closed on Sunday....Go figure!

Keith I got a 2 unit here id give ya Ive never used its 26" long.. Its heavy...I have cut them down (mine need to 17") I had another guy the other night say whats that in the bottom of your rack? Its a computer....Wheres your cd drive? Up here next to the nanocompressor (1/3 rack) I didnt realize what i had till i started seeing things like this and only a 40 gig hard drive? I sometimes think it would be easier to cut a tower in half just big enough for a mico atx and power supply and put it in the bck of the rack....

Thanks, but I want the 4U so I can install plenty of cards...It will also serve for more than music....It's gotta do video...I already built the perfect media computer, it just needs to be shifted to a rack case... It's a full size ATX with lots of slots and bays.

I had to google that myself My next design will be where I can leave everything plugged in... The rear of the case is so close even the keyboard and mouse have to be unplugged to put the rear cover on...
I put another fan in the front pulling air in and the one in back is blowing out I have run it outside in hot summer days.

He ment portable equipment rack cases!...I understand now....My computer is going to remain in a roll around rack at home..No need to fit in a portable case.

Wooo Hooo!
I found it for $77.99 ...It's on order! That's a pretty good price when you consider it comes with 300 watt ATX power supply included.

Now I gotta go order another rack, I'm out of room and there are three rack items in the mail.

What i like most is that it isn't too deep and has 3 full size bays in front....That's room nuff for a good cd/dvd, a card reader and a floppy....Not sure about USB in front yet, but I hope so...I guess I need to go look at it again to see...I know one thing fersure, that locking door is coming off first thing.

the hard drives are a real pain, But that is because they are shock mounted. Dont defeat them. They are worth the trouble.

The case just arrived from newegg.com
I'm really ticked!...There is no powersupply!
I've been on hold with newegg for a few minutes, and I can predict how this is going to go....I'll update when i find out their excuse.
Wow, only 3 minutes on hold......so I can can update now.
Newegg looked at product discription on their web page and agreed it was misleading, so they credited me the cost of a powersupply and said they would update the page to explain it comes with no powersupply....
I didn't even have to scream this time....COOL!.

Yep, it's fersure gonna be a pain to install ALL drives properly, not just the HD's...Looks like I need to install removable media drives first, then HD's, then MB and all cables.....
The case comes with NO documentation concerning front panel cable/wire assignment, so it is not for the less than expert builder.
But it does have an absolutely huge HD bay cooling fan and cleanable filter...Also two additional cooling fans that can be positioned as required-if required, and pre-punched back panel location for even yet another fan...I'm thinkin this thang will sound like a tornado if I used all the cooling options possible.
There are 2 USB ports on the front afterall! AND a S-VIDEO connection! :hi5: :worship: WOOOO WOOOO!..
The locking door can be removed very easily and still look great or you can install a push button door release in place of the key lock if you know where to shop in the hardware section....
I like it.....It is a great buy!...But be warned that the empty case weighs 37 lbs cause it is built really tuff.

Actualy,
I have removed the drive mount and added a drive since I built it. So it is possible.
However, I had to add a 5" fan to the top of mine for cooling. I have a athalon 4200+ in it, and it runs over 50 degrees c. without the extra fan it would be over 65 deg. However, If I had built this on the new athalon 64 x2 4200 like my latest computer has, it wouldnt have needed the fan.

In a live show the fan noise is not even heard and cooling is one of the most important aspects. I even have a fan out of a tower mounted in the rack blowing across the bottom of the dfx12 towards the back where the power supply heat sink is mounted to the exterior case.

Thanks for the reply...I'm considering going Athlon 64 for several reasons, not just reduced cooling...I hope you will allow me to pick you brains in the future....Especially after we disagreed over the MTU stuff today.

My new system is an athlon 64 as well and I agree do not use xp64 it is not ready for prime time. NO drivers are available and 90% of your software will run in 32bit mode anyway so why bother with new driver sets and whatnot.
