Quote: Time is supposedly very linear, but why do some days seem to go by quickly and others seem to drag? What's going on within us to cause us to define this rate of change in our perception of time? Don, According to Newton, "time exists". This isn't accepted by many today. In this particular case the Western cultural view was generally accepted as world view regarding the theories of time. Newton assumes time is a "physical reality", that can exist independently of awareness or consciousness. Quote: ow, my brain hurts I managed to transcend the false messages I was receiving from my brain. There's something serene about having your finger's working while your brain throws tantrums that you ignore ![/quote]

Quote: you're telling me that I hit the wrong nail! No No, I'm not quite as smart as I like to believe I am... I'm not telling you, I'm asking you . We are just discussing this fascinating area... I enjoy pondering these things... Now do you see why I'm here so much of the time ? Noone wants to be around me in real.. Quote: Alzheimers and dementia
If it's actual Alzheimer's, I don't believe this is so ! Although there are medications that can help slow down the degenerative process. Exercizing the mind of an alzheimer's patient (I believe) does little good... Assuming the diagnosis of dementia in the person *IS* actually Alzheimers, which is degenerative. WHile behaviourists will always be the first to stake claims that "exercizing" the brain, or behavioural approaches can retard the process. In the ACCURATELY diagnosed cases of Alzheimers, (which isn't easy, since some medications have an identicle side affect..Lipator especially which is used for elevated cholestral levels) there is no evidence much beyond medication therapy can help stall the inevitable.
In some cases neurologists don't accurately diagnose alzheimers. Since dementia can exist in geriatric patients due to severe clinical depression, or exogenous depression as well as medications, and the symptoms (up until around the 2nd year) are similar to Alzheimers, I'd be inclined to believe that IF behavioural approaches work, the dementia is not actually Alzheimer's or that type organic deterioration of the brain.

Steven ~ I should have emphasized that mind exercises can only help delay or compensate for the deterioration in the very early stages of organic type dementias. Once the physiological changes in the brain are well on their way, it is pretty much all down hill and out of the patient's control.
So what lead you to study up on psychiatry, psychology and neurology? Just an interest in what makes us tick?

Nope, I dropped out've Medical School only months prior to when I was due to take the boards.. It was one of those things that was other's expectations of me. Nothing that actually was me. I don't know how I feel about the actual dropping out.. Even though it wasn't "me", I don't think I'll ever fully accept that I did the correct thing. Yet I can't imagine myself having been in that type work. I had every disease I studied, and even stuff that hasn't been invented yet or is known to exist in the human species
As for R&D, I had no place there either. I don't have a creative mind.. I doubt the capacity of my mind would get me in "Who's Who" in the AMA.... Rhoid Implants aren't exactly in fashion, so I have nothing to contribute
I also wasn't very healthy in those days, I'm lucky to have gotten to where I did considering the other things I was "into"..

Well that explains a lot. You seemed way smarter than the average bear on these matters! You don't get to be that knowledgeable just by reading articles in the Readers Digest ("I Am Joe's Gall Bladder") or Psychology Today.
To get that close to the finish line and then drop out of the race is a gutsy move alright. I guess I would have given medical practice a shot just so I could say I at least tried it. Sounds like you suffered from the typical med student syndrome of
adopting every disease that you're studying. I used to do that a lot just by going through the Merck Manual. Talk about playing head games with one's self! LOL
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing!

Those are 4 LONG blocks. Besides, I have a couple secret hiding places.
10 Feet Tall in attitude that's for sure. Divide by 2 for actual height -- objects
are smaller then they appear. Bulletproof? Pretty much so! LOL

Quote: Those are 4 LONG blocks. Not really. The other night, at about 9:30, I walked all the way to 7-11. I'll have to tell you in uh-private- just WHAT made me go walking to 7-11 at night. But still, it wasn't all that far. Took me only about 35 minutes each way. Quote: Besides, I have a couple secret hiding places. But I'm good at kicking doors down too Don, doncha know. Quote: 10 Feet Tall in attitude that's for sure. Divide by 2 for actual height -- objects are smaller then they appear. Hey!! It's the thought that counts here, not the actual height. So..... sshhhhh.... Quote: Bulletproof? Pretty much so! LOL

Oh yeah ? Let me ask you this. How many out there have a clue what "Pointillism" is (let alone remember how to spell it), and know about Neo-Impressionism ?
Are you an Art teacher, or Art History teacher ?
Few know about Art like that at our age.. Unless they are SERIOUSLY into it !

Incidently the guys in EW&F are truly brilliant musicians !
Talk about amazing vocal range ~ What a falsetto
What I was referring to in the pryor post was a riddle in which the answer was: TIME
But I do enjoy someof the vocal stylings and melodies of EW&F. The evolution into disco has it's ups and downs, but I can appreciate that genre as well.

Wouldn't you agree that neuropathways whether established or not can be affected by many factors that can weaken the connections? It could be due to stress, disease, terminal illness, gaps in the receptors, ect.

Gosh, so I'm a pretty dang intelligent brunette..... gimme a break. Can't I PRETEND to be a dumb blonde once in a while? LMAO
Actually, ya want the truth? :drums: ( I don't often offer the truth in forums you know)
I read- ALOT. I always have. And not just mushy girlie love stories (though, those DO have their good sections) I like to read interesting books.
I read "Depths of Glory" by Irving Stone. VERY good book. It got me a bit interested in both Impressionism & Pointillism..... so I have researched it on the internet somewhat. It was really neat to actually get to see alot of the paintings that I had read descriptions of in the book. The book is mainly about the life of Camille Pisarro, but all the other great (and not so great) Impressionist & Pointillist painters are in the book as well. Interesting reading- and research.
Am I an artist? Oh lord, that is bound to get a chuckle out of Don. I sit at the bar table, and use bar napkins & paper coasters as my art pad....... karaoke pencils as my paint...... hahaha, and I draw people in the bar. Or I draw other things..... horses, boots, hats, silly stuff. I drew Don once, he thought it was pretty funny.
But- artist - NO. I have a "bad habit" of drawing is the accurate way to put it. LMAO

Of course, all we brunette's love to take a walk on the "bim" side once in awhile.. At least you return.. Not only can't I find the ripcord to my parachute, but I can't seem to find the ground either !
