Code: She said 'What, your dog can climb?' I said 'ya offcourse'
Jian, I'd have been running out've that Vet's office the minute she said "dog"... On a serious note, are their exotic pet vet's in the United States that understand that species animal that ARE NOT employed by larger zoo's such as San Diego, etc ? How many Civet's (I wonder) are kept as pet's in the US ? and when you think of it, isn't it interesting that animals in the "Carnivore" family CAN be domesticated ? Raccoon's can't be... can you think of other carnivores that really can live among people comfortably ? Panda's, bear... etc.. I don't think could...
also aren't civet's mainly vegetable eating animals ? wouldn't that technically make that specief herbivorous, and not a true Carnivore ?
The vet tech should not have been surprised dogs can climb. Hasn't she ever studied Pit Bull Terriers ?

Quote: In some kampung there are still keeping the heads of their enemies in the Head-House called the "bale". The heads of their so-called enemies have been kept since the by-gone era of headhunting.
Jian, I remember when I was young, we used to hear stories about the "Borneo Headhunters".. Is that a past cultural thing ? or does it still exist in some cultures ?

Where on a time scale of evolution would "proto primate" exist Jian ?
That would precede australopithecine period, correct ? Would that have existed during, or prior to the dinosaur period ? and is the dinosaur period somewhat fictitious ? Haven't dinosaurs always existed ? IE.... Birds ?
What's interesting is that assuming Lemur's are "protoprimate", wouldn't that make them examples of our true ancestry ? They evolved into hominids didn't they ?
Quote: I dint that Island have true primate other than human.
I would have thought there were species of Monkey on the island

I happen to know the vets there. Our organisation trained the vets in the state on how to handle wildlife. Civet are carnivore but love fruits. Its not what a mammal eat that make them a carnivore or herbivore it has to do with their dentition. The bear are carnivore but a sun bear will just love fruits. Dogs are carnivore too but will eat almost anything

The heads may still be around. The place I used to work; very remote village have the heads kept in public view. The headhunting thing is gone tho. My family still have the sword that my grandpa used for headhunting. Never like the look of that sword.

From now on, I refer to you as SIR..
You are not a good enemy to have.
I am going to look up this cultural ritual later online. I thought there were still remote villages in certain areas such as Borneo that still actually do this kind of thing.. I have no idea..

Yes Jian, I forgot the Dogs ARE in fact "Carnivore"...
How would they be classicified...for instance what is the order of species, class, family etc.. I forgot ALL about the listing order, genus, etc...
A dog would be listed how ???
Mammal---->Carnivore----->Canine----->Standard Poodle ??????
Jian, is your specialty area actually zoology ?

The class Mammalia have about 20 Orders below it( depend on what sources you read) Some interesting Orders are the Marsupialia with 16 Families. We have the Kangaroos, Koalas, Opossums and many of those more. Many are found East of the Wallace's Line. Australia have only the marsupialia representing the mamals. The dingo was introduced.
Dog, foxes, wolves, jackals, coyote, belong to the Order, Canidae.
The classification of animals is huge mess up. I can never cope with it. It change and become very confusing. The taxonomists and the wildlife biologist are not the same group of people. One work in the museum the in the field. There used to only one specie of Orang Utan , now there are two.

Never come across any mammal that are hermaphroditic species. Snails; I dont study them slugs, not sure but some sps maybe. There are some sps of animals that actualy change sex in nature, some fish I think do.
ps You should try the durian the kink of fruit. It smell like a dirty public toilet, but taste like heaven

All sex change in human occurred in the hospital OT . Sex is determined at fertilization in the case of human. In the marine turtles the sex is determined by the temperature around the nestling during incubation
