Anxiety makes things appear spatially altered.. IT affects your depth perception, spatial aspects, and plays MANY games..... It's like tripping, can even cause hallucination.. I'm the first to admit what I'm not Don. I'm not a strong person with coping mechs for stressful stuff... I don't feign to be, and I guess I feel if I'm not, it's going to have to suffice for now.... Life isn't easy for some of us that feel stuff acutely at times...That's really what I was saying in a different thread....
Who was it that said
For those who think, life is comedy
For those who feel, tragedy
They never did mention just how crazy the world is for those of us that do both intensely.. ad extensively.....IT's ABSURD....IMHO

I only sang harmonies and played bass. I don't know how the lead singers and frontmen do it. That takes guts to be in the spotlight like that and take the brunt of the audiences attention.

Quote: Now were you ever bugged by playing in over-heated rooms like in the summertime with no AC?
OF COURSE......discomfort is KNOWN to exacerbate ALL pre-existing problems....Playing or any activity in excessive heat can lead to heat exhaustion Don...Even just standing out in 100 degree's for an hour and exerting yourself in anyway....Humidity, and heat were KILLER for me, but they are just if I walked to get the mail, I HATE extreme H&H....Won't even go out to a pool. I have respiratory probs and know I'll get sick in those conditions..... that's VERY obviously a stressing factor....If you don't have good tolerance to excessive heat....standing near equipment like we did, raises the temp a few degree's, all a dark stage, or blacktop area.....NO WONDER !

Yep! Being a hyper-thinker and hypersensitive is a double whammy! Being able to laugh about life's complexities is important. Laughter is often the only thing that can defuse tension a lot of the times. Or tears -- but you don't do that in public! Especially if you're a male! It just ain't natural!

I think it just takes a slightly different mind-set than we have.... It's kind've exciting when you think about it for them, THEY are the front people....Most here would understand what it's like, I personally do not, I was alway just the guy "backing" the front folks.... or sitting at the piano.... I suppose this is where a vocalist could chime in.....Regarding how they do it, and what they do it for ? I guess like ballet dancers, or people that dance in plays.... You are more visible physically. and more exposed period....Yet it's got to be a real rush.....As A lead guitarist, and musician who took solo breaks during improv in jazz..... It's really like running anchor for a team..... You run the important leg but you have the comraderie of your who team...

sort've like sports.... The front man is the QB, or pitcher..... the guitars are 1st bass and short stop... and of course there's the soundmen.... Outfield... Oh yeah, and the person who tends the keg.... and tries to hit on the other players wives... The drummer... Trying to think who the catcher would be....Hmmm.. Which musician... or would the person operating the soundboard actually be catcher ? or would that be a guitarist or bass player.... Hmmm.... Now I'm confused

We're kind of the base of the pyramid. Without a solid foundation, the lead singer/frontman can be left out there hanging. Hopefully the audience appreciates our efforts -- they usually seem to anyway.

The drummer is kind of like the catcher. It's not a real glam position, but you sure can't do a rock band or baseball team without one.

Well, speaking of frazzled nervous systems, mine needs to get some sleep. So I'll chat to you later Steven. Thanks for your observations on things. You're a keen observer of life! Maybe you should get your own call in radio show if you don't want to do standup comedy!

Probably..... It's interesting. As a multiinstrumentalist I was a "switch-hitter" but still always behind the front person, be it vocalist, guitarist/vocalist, etc... It's where I feel comfortable, when young I did the solo recitals. Found them tough. and I was scared as soon as I got old enough to realize "They are watching me"
At 3 or 4 I think I just liked the attention,I don't recall much, I was 4 at Seton Hall NJ piano recital, and I was told noone is out there....so it was relaxing because the area was very small, just extended to the back of the piano.... HAHAHA, the field of my view, was the size of the room, and the light's blinded me...GOOD THING.... there was ALOT of applause, and that was the LAST time I felt comfortable, at the end without the lights, I think someone said "see what you did", and I saw all the seats, balconies, and think I dropped one in my pants or something....Damn adults can really fool you.. yet I think when I was young, I didn't have the ego development to worry about screwing up, I think as A kid, I felt screwing up was always a "get out've jail" free card that could be used at anytime...I assumed everyone was bigger than me, smarter, and they were decent people that like me... noone took me seriously, it was just another source of acknowledgement, like the nude photo's of the babies in the bathtub, now you just plop then in front of a piano instead..I think I sensed that as a kid it was stoll sort've a vacation from the difficult adult stuff... If my parents said something, I believed them and carried it to the stage. I was sort've like a robot..
At around 6 I started running into probs... I told the story about MY experience with critique and rank,,,, .... I was almost as bad as some of the babies in SS....
This is going to sound really weird, but I don't think alot of that 3-4 year old that was performing grows up ! Is that possible ? That's a comfortably playful age... Weird eh ? I can identify strongly with what little of it I recall.... It was a safe place...and so long ago....that noone could touch me

Steven ~ Wow you started doing some serious playing at a very young age! I assume one or both of your parents played music also. At that age, how could you understand the full consequences of succeeding or failing, critique, grading, etc.
Probably all you realized is that you were able to do something that made older people clap their hands alot or pat you on the back while saying "good job son".
Well, we're still in search of approval and pats on the back when we play music
at our age. Nothing much changes there with age. It's the kid part of us that probably gets the biggest thrill out of playing. After playing a hot lead, cool riff or whatever, it's that little kid that still goes "that was neato!!!"

Well, the Robbie is headed over this afternoon, so I'll eat good....We are doing grilled steaks, mac n cheese, broc n cheese, taters and corn on the cob.....And HE is gonna do the dishes afterwards.
I'm doing an emergency thaw on the meat....Got it submerged in a sink of hot water.

My 3rd wife was JEASOUS of him!...She hated that we spent time together...It was most always here at home, but that didn't matter to her.....She really got upset after we separated and Robbie started staying here half the time and I gave him his own bedroom....I guess I should mention he dated my 2nd wife a little....(small town)
I got a pic of him somewhere...He had me take one for when he tried the internet dating thing.....I think there is one of him on the web too...Let me go see.
Edit: go here... slackersbar.com
Look in pictures, then in singers and miss pics....I'm wearing a white shirt....See if you can pick me out...In one pic I'm with my 3rd wife at the bar....Robbie has to be in there somewhere cause he used to KJ and do security for them....Stay out of the special events section or you will find pics of the wet t contests.

I'm in pain.....I haven't eaten like that in a long time!...The house is all stunk up with the smell of Grill Mates spices....Robbie seared some onions and mushrooms in a hot skillet and coated them with the Grill Mates.....Now Robbie is in the can...He'll be there an hour at least.
Wooo Hooo!, there are several Clint Eastwood westerns lined up on the sat tonight....I gotta go round up my couch pillows before Robbie emerges or we will fight over them...I'm feeling like a nap now that I got the wrinkles out of my belly.
