God I went in tonight depressed tired of fighting the poker crowd about ready to quit... I delayed from 8 p till a little before 9... I turned it up from dull to singing level and sang After The Lights Go Out... All of a sudden I had about 5 requests and I announced I just need 1 request slip to start with then just tell me no slip if you want put 5 on the back.. A guy sat down looking at the book and started filling out request slips... He sang his first song and was awesome. Come to find out he had one of the local bands He said this is an awesome system. We went from 10 to 1 30 with about 25 singers. Everybody sounding good I should say great...A local kj from sat nite came in with part of his crowd and yes I said here is J P He has his show at Pitchers sat night.... Ok not bragging Im just psyched from ready to quit to rearing to go again... If there was people that jumped up to dance I played it thru and let them dance then called the singer up...Breaking old rules that I never believed in but they work now....

Good jpb! You hung in there and it paid off. I've never been a KJ, but I've played in bands for a long time. I completely understand what it's like to perform in front of a small or unappreciative crowd. It's often a lot easier to please a large crowd than a small crowd. Especially, if the small crowd is more interested in talking or playing games instead of listening to music/singers.

Alright my friend!...Nights like those...when you think...nothing going to happen...it's slow...and you're hoping you don't have to make the bartender sing..and then BAM!...here they come....

Good Night?! Good for you! Ah, the depression of dead karaoke nights; it'll drive you to drinking! Amazing how an appreciative audience with a positive attitude and compliments can make you feel like a real KJ again!
By the way, strong work on introducing fellow KJs and Band Members when they come up to sing. They will respect you more as a KJ and it sends a positive image to your audience.
