Okay, I just mentioned this in another thread, and - since my name is the last to have posted on dang near every thread in this forum ( ) and I'm not in the mood to quit typing yet........ I thought maybe some of you all might have some ideas.
My twenty year anniversary is coming up, March 16th. (yes, 20 whole years, and I'm about to be a grandma to boot!!)
Anyhow, before I go ANY further, lemme make this little statement:
Yes, some of you know me a bit outside these forums, many of you know I don't have the best marriage on the planet. We've had many struggles the last few years, and things are rocky right now at best. But, he IS my husband, and it HAS been twenty years, so..... Even though at times I want to say "What's there to celebrate ??".... looking back, and trying my best to look forward, maybe there is something to celebrate. And I don't want my pride to make me pass this day by, and maybe who knows?- regret it in the future.
So that being said...... I don't know what to plan. For quite a few years now, we've talked about this day coming. Always thinking "Gosh, it's getting close to twenty whole years"... so it needs to have a drum roll, and some kinda memory making material. (besides THAT, getcher minds outta the gutter) :D I have those plans taken care of.
It's been a LONG time since we've gone off somewhere, just the two of us. We're usually home with our kids, except for karaoke nights.
Speaking of which, my first thought is (since we don't wanna go too far away, like Hawaii or anything, haha)....... I never get out of Canby, literally. I want to go get a motel, or 2 or 3, whatever..... and spend a few days off on our own, and hit as many new karaoke bars as I can every night. Maybe drive up into Washington a ways, that's where we lived when we first got married- in Olympia.
Now, he likes to go to karaoke, and has certain songs he always wants me to sing...... but he doesn't sing..... at all. So, is my plan totally selfish & self centered? I mean, I dunno what else we would do? Go to dinner? Most likely we will, but woo-hoo , big deal. I'm not the "out to a nice dinner" type person, I mean- it's just food. Catch a movie? Maybe we will, but that's not much of a finale. Ride the Stern Wheeler? No thank you, I hate the rivers here, they're too poluted. Take the Mt. Hood Railroad? That would be fun, but I'm just a BIT claustophobic, and don't know if I could handle sleeping in a rail car. I'd hate to ruin our time with a panic/anxiety ending. :(
So gimme some good idears........ Oh, and WHAT do you buy someone for your 20th anniversary. Cause, as you can see, this is a big deal to me. I mean, TWENTY years.....

I'm thinking that the karaoke road trip is a fun idea, but that's too many nights in a row hanging out in bars. Try and spend some private time together in an unaltered state of mind (or is that way too boring ) Go some place memorable. I can't think of a place off the top of my head yet. What did you used to like to do together 20 years ago?

Remember, somebody has to be able to drive! LOL One reason to maybe go easy on the bars. Not much fun though, huh?

Twent years ago? Haha, we lived out in the sticks Don. In a small hill town in California, about 30 minutes from the civilized city........ watcha think we did?? We went fishing!! (or, uh, atleast told my MA it was "fishing" , haha)
Which would be tons of fun...... but my kids would whine like there's no tomorrow if we went camping/fishing without them. And I already mentioned this....... that would not make Lonnie feel very "manly" cause I always catch all the fish. :D

Wow 20 years! Congratulations that takes commitment and patience.
The Oregon Coast is a great place to go! If you make the coast your destination
Lincoln City is probably the best if you still want to get your Karaoke Fix. My wife and I go there at least once every 90 days. We stay at the Sea Horse Inn right on the beach, rent the corner suite that has spectacular views of the ocean from 3 directions and has a huge jaccuzzi just a few steps away that is surrounded by glass so you can sit in it and view the waves crashing the beach. We take a case of our favorite wine and order food delivered to our room which has a fireplace and all the comforts of home. Occasionally we will walk on the beach and hold hands n stuff.
When we get the karaoke bug. Normally by 8pm we walk about 5 blocks down to Maxwells which is a 7 days a week karaoke bar and sing up a storm. There is another place a couple doors down the street on the opposite side of the highway called the cozy inn and it's kinda a biker bar sorta place. Maxwells is by far the best sound and song selection and they have several dance floors. Why not wine and dine him, sing a few of his favorite songs, and do alot of slow dancing.
We love the huge variety of seafood restaurants there and generally eat out every night. Of course there is Chinook Winds Casino for live entertainment and gambling. What we like to do is go to their Weekend Seafood Buffet it's fabulous.
The thing I like about being at the ocean is all of your stresses seem to melt away and you can focus on being together and having some good ol' fun. Romance is sure to follow.
It works for us!
Hope this helps

Ok Charmin here is the plan... My first suggestion is ( I dont know how long you both can get off) but you both need to get out to a place like this... This photo is one I got years ago in printshop deluxe. I have used it for a desktop many times in fact it is my comp at my gig tonight. I was going to upload it but googling found it and it even tells how to get there... [url=http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.brightoncreekbahai.org/image/photo/rainier_with_horses_200.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.brightoncreekbahai.org/page/location_directions.html&h=160&w=200&sz=11&tbnid=cxPRfSF5mt4a6M:&tbnh=79&tbnw=99&hl=en&start=1&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmount%2Bolympia%2Bhorses%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official_s%26sa%3DG]
here[/url] What I'm trying to say is dont decide now but both of you go out to a spot like this.... Relax and then decide what you want to do... Then follow the winds...

You know, last time we went there, it was about 8 years ago...... and we went to Lincoln City. Just me and him, for the weekend.
It was alot of fun, we karaoke'd at Mona's Oasis in Lincoln City- that place was great. I actually met some people who were there from Salem, haha, that was funny. But, when we went it was the kite festival weekend, so the place was packed. Then, Charmin got a bit too tipsy and didn't remember most of the rest of the night, haha. Scary stuff can happen when you're in a strange town, and over drink.
We drove up and down the coast a bit, went to the dunes up at Sand Lake (which only served to depress us, cause we didn't bring along our bikes or rails).... then went down to Newport. Had some yummy food there. All in all, it was an awesome weekend.
And funny you mention it, cause we did talk about going there again. But, this time of year, the beach area is so dang cold & windy. Guess we could catch a show at Chinook Winds too....... but not gamble, lord, I hate gambling. I like to play poker, but that's it.

Uh, are you serious? Cause, what the heck is Bahá'í Faith? Some cult?
The place looks cool, and fun....... and there's HORSEBACK riding it appears, and a native american drum making class? I would think that cool....... Lonnie, maybe not.
I drug him to a Pow Wow for the Grand Ronde's summer before last, and other than eating the fire pit smoked salmon & Indian fry bread, he was pretty bored.
Me, I had tons of fun though. Is that what this is? A tribal place? Holy cow, Charmin, go back and read on the website why doncha...

OK, I'm casting a vote for Flipper's Lincoln City idea. Mona's is a fun karaoke place.
I used to play with a band at Maxwell's, but it sounds like they switched over to karaoke too. You don't have to drive far from place to place or back to your room.
You've got Chinook Winds with their good breakfast and dinner buffets plus there's all the other good seafood places, etc. And there's that little thing called the Pacific Ocean. Sounds good to me!

Oh, sure, send me off someplace where they're gonna shave my head & put me in a long white gown, and give my husband TEN MORE WIVES..... LMAO
Then again, hmmmm.......
Nah, I'm too jealous. Wouldn't last long, I'd be swinging a splittin' maul at some chick, and they'd decide I needed to be "eliminated" for breaking the peace.

Oh, cool , look.......... Don's offering to give me a free trip to the coast, and take me out to eat at Chinook Winds, and, oh sorry Don- ya meant for me & Lonnie didn't ya? LoL.......
But I don't like the coast in winter. :( I can't swim cause the water's too cold, can't ride in the dunes without freezing, and can't even prance along the beach in my bikini. What fun is that?
