Don, I don't know. This isn't an area I'm familiar with. I wouldn't be qualified to answer an FCC related question. Unless it pertained to HAM Radio 30 years ago.

Uncle Charley doesnt want spurious radiations that interfere with communication frequencys. I forget what the requirements are for their tests.....

Don Weiss @ Sat Feb 18, 2006 9:38 am wrote: Could Keith, Steven or anyone please explain to me exactly what specifications the FCC checks for when it comes to audio equipment? It depends on the classification of the device...A device that is designed to emitt RF energy(cell phone) is required to meet a very stringent standard that is much more difficult to meet than a passive device(mixing board)....However all devices must resist RF energy to a certian level.
Look around your world at all the electronic devices and be amazed that none interfere with each other much, if at all....Sat's in orbit, walkie talkies, TV's, cell phones, radio stations and so on do their thing 24/7 without getting all over each other.....And that is because there are certain industry standards like the FCC has adopted that prevent it.
FCC certification of any such device must be obtained by testing in a private lab...Those labs charge up to 400/hour and it can take many hours/days to fully test an item for compliance...Once the testing is completed, then the maker petitions the FCC for permission to manufacture, market and import/distribute that item to the public.
UL is another standard that many items must meet...UL is mostly concerned about safety....Whereas FCC is concerned mainly about preventing interference of electrical/electronics.
Then there is the good housekeeping seal....but that is material for another thread.

So the FCC is mainly concerned about proper RF shielding and leakage problems.
Hmmm...

Yep! Good points Keith. Everything has to be operating within tightly controlled frequency ranges. It's pretty amazing how they do it.

Friend if you could only see and measure all the RF energy that is in the air around you and passing thru your body at all times, you would wonder how you still function, much less your TV.

Yes, it probably messes with our body's own internal "electrical systems."
Tumors from cell phones, etc.? No one knows for sure yet!

I have friends who bought Mackie's and also have problems, Behringer just has more simply cause they're a volume company and retailers hate making smaller margin! When you know who to talk to and where to search, you'll get the thruth. Keep in mind that most brand are now made in China, including the Harman stuff (Lexicon, DBX, AKG...) Funny how things can change, for years the Japanese car manufactures we're suppose to be copying the American car industry, now, it's the other way around, they all wish to copy the Honda's, Toyota's... Who knows if Mackie would copy Behringer one day? In fact, they already did when they decided to lowered their prices and go to Asia for cheap laber!!
Thanks Micky. (I only mentioned Tony because he seems to champion Behringer stuff....... I know others do too........ but so many like to trash them)
I think I'm really gonna like it. I was pretty sore when I got the first one & it didn't work right. (I guess the fan was missing or bad, it kept shutting off every few minutes- and I'm assuming because it got too warm.....) But, circumstances at the place I purchased from made me get another one of the same- and I think all in all it will end up being a good choice.
And I agree with everthing you said. You just get both sides of the story when you are talking about ANY topic here....... and also, I think you get alot of "monkey see, monkey do" in comments too. TY for taking the time to comment- it's nice to hear others (good) views on Behringer. :D

The only reason they get more trash talk than praise is because of their reputation for reliability. You yourself had to send a new unit back first time open & get it replaced right out the gate. Your second unit luckily worked fine (knock on wood). With them it's a big gamble, if you get a unit that works, then consider yourself lucky. I myself have never had a Behringer product that lasted more than a year.

But of course none of us who have ever bought a brand new car have ever had to take it back to the dealer because of problems because there are never any problems with brand new cars. (Heavy on the sarcasm) They are flawless right out of the factory.

I've only bought 1 new car before, didn't have to bring it back for anything MAJOR or keep on exchanging until I got 1 that worked - had that with used cars before. You too are one of the lucky. Apparently some of their boards may be a little better than others, just read several "user" reviews on the board I have UB2442FX pro & the majority have stated the same thing about losing channels the first few months, losing effects or just plain quit working. Also read reviews on the 1832 which most here seem to favor & there are generally more praise stating while not the cleanest board soundwise, it is feature packed & for the money pretty much worth it.

I don't agree with you, that is ONLY your personal opinion! The truth is, they get a trash talk from people like you who have had some bad experiences and if what you say is true, than fine but at least be honest, Behringer is a best buy in many things they do and sometimes to have the equivalent you'll need to spend double the price or more, that's the reality!
I've done my homework before writing this, find me a pair of Monitors at the price of The Thruth B2031A that is has good? Mackie you say? Double the price and they don't even play better!! I was ready to spend more but my ears decided on the Thruth! Now, find me a studio mic better than the B-2 Pro at that price? Sorry, you can't!
Here's what I recommend to anyone who wishes to buy this brand; Do a search on Google by typing the model you wish to buy and you'll find your answers, yes, there's lot's of people who's really having fun destroying it's reputation but also people who really knows what there talking about with actual facts, not only bad experiences or isolated cases!

Well in my case that is the truth, I have NEVER had a Behringer product of any kind that has lasted. Mostly mixers, but had a couple of the amps & have used their speakers when filling in for another company using their stuff. All the mixers i've owned or used had channels that went out within 6 months - EVERY ONE! This isn't just me, i've heard this from MANY other boards as well - yes i've heard praise to, but not as much (although dependant on model, some do get more than others). The amps are noisy sounding and the speakers are tinny sounding - no fullness. So yes this is my opinion & I will continue to state it. Even several here have admitted to having to "exchange" their new unit until they got 1 that worked - some 2 or 3 times before getting one that actually worked. I've never had to do that with my Mackie, Carvin, JBL.....everything worked from day 1 out of the box. So yes I believe in the adage - you get what you pay for. Quote: I've done my homework before writing this, find me a pair of Monitors at the price of The Thruth B2031A that is has good? Mackie you say? Double the price and they don't even play better!! Unless you are using your studio for "serious" recordings, the Truth monitors would probably be just fine, again, I find them to be a little sharp & lacking in bass response for serious studio monitors, but for a home set-up just doing some karaoke recordings or basic demos, they are fine. I actually use a set of Yamaha NS10 that I paid $200 for the pair with an Alesis R-100 reference amp. Could use a better amp, but I am not doing any serious recordings at this time either. Again, I have always stated that people get lucky. Although there are far more "isolated" cases than you think. I can send you to the other sites (mostly pro-sound boards) as well that have the same stories as mine. The fact is their reliability isn't very good - some don't have problems, many do. When my board worked, it worked fine, sounded ok, a little noisier than my Mackie, but it was just for backup work so it didn't bother me much. It did bother me when it started losing channels then died within a year - like the other models from them I used.

And here they are
Mics in the same price range as B2 pro recommended by HR
MXL 2003, AT 3035, CAD-E100, SP C1,
In one of your post you say you mix with your headphone rather than thru your B2031A. Your headphone mix, sound better than B2031A

I'm thinking Uli Behringer is doing us a favor....Of sorts.
He has managed to force the competition to be more competitive.
He has thrown in tons of features at less than half the price and stolen lots of sales in the process....Now the competition needs to offer the same features, but demonstrate better reliability WHILE cutting their prices.

You can add me to the list of non-working Behringers, owned 4 of their mixers, an MX1804 was the first. This one had to return first time out of the box. 2nd time worked for about a year before the left side died. 2nd model was UB1832FX-Pro, worked for 6 months, died completely, returned for new unit, had to return new unit out of the box, 3rd unit actually is still working fine. 3rd model was UB1202FX...bought for my home karaoke system. This one is still working after a year, although has developed a bad hum in the left channel. 4th model UB1622FX-Pro, owned for about 6 months before it died completely...was just a backup unit, not even used on a regular basis. Got repaired, lasted 2 more weeks in private shows, died again, repaired one more time...repair shop informed me they get many of that particular model for similar repairs & recommended another brand.
