Ain't that cool! Everyone likes the Charmin , I bet we could rig her out with a killer PA if everyone chipped in.....No, let's not-I'd be jealous then if her system was better than mine!
I don't mind helping her with PA stuff, but she had better never ask for help painting her house. ...Ask CactusJack how lazy I am.

I can vouch for what CactusJack is stating, as being absolutely true regarding Keith's generosity; now about the drywall and painting part, I know nothing about that, I do that myself !!!!
Now to take heed to what Karyoker mentioned earlier, and get my butt out've the tech room, there's plenty of great help in here, I'll just drop in if I have a question...

MrOctober wrote: I'll chip in to get her what she needs ...i have pay pal and can transfer funds ...et me know if you need some dough keith. Michael Now aren't ya'll sweet......... but I couldn't do that. Now how would I explain to my hubby why 2 guys off the internet paid for me a new set of speakers?!?! He'd start thinking I sent you all those naughty pics or something. It was hard enough explaining WHY Allstar sent me the mixer for my computer over a year ago. And no, Allstar didn't get any pics either. I'll save my pennies, then I'll be back on here bragging about my new speaks that are on the way........ one of these days. Quote: P.S.
I was reading the owner's manual for your mixer....you ain't goin to like this but you need special speaker cables....The mixer from what I can tell has only Speak-On output plugs....They don't say if they are the combo style Speak-On's or not.
If they are plain speak-on's, you need cables that have speak-on on one end and whatever your speakers require on the other end. If they are the combo type, you can also use 1/4" cable plugs at the mixer. Already been there, done that. Speaks had those (I think they are called "turtle clips"...... help me out here) The kind where you just poke the bare wire in & flip the clip shut? I hated those things. I rewired the plugs in the speaks to these....... http://www.action2k.com/grc/cesz16.jpg (banana jacks) I got the speakon cables. My friend Don found them on sale at a store in PDX that was closing down, for $26 each. 50 ft. cables. They had banana clips on the speaker end, so it worked out perfectly. So with the jacks, I only paid $62 for the cables & all. And these really are cool , those speakon connectors, really smooth how they work. Quote: Charm--why are you ordering all this stuff over the internet? There's plenty of good stores locally in PDX that carry the full range of DJ speakers/amps with knowledgable sales people who would help you mix and match a good system. Most have good deals in terms of cost, plus customer support. And there are a number of places around PDX/Vanc who carry Karaoke Machines(JVC) (RSQ). Kurt, I did shop around. It was just a heck of alot cheaper to cut out the middle man, and order direct from online. I got free shipping. I got the mixer for $299, and that's the cheapest I could find it anywhere, and the RSQ was $279. I did find a couple places I could have order them for me locally, but it wasn't worth waiting the extra time........ just to PAY more. Cables came from PDX though, Don picked them up for me. Quote: I don't mind helping her with PA stuff, but she had better never ask for help painting her house. ...Ask CactusJack how lazy I am.
Dude, you missed out. Painting was all done a week ago........ took me quite a while to paint this new house. Coulda used ya for that. I'll have to remember how much you like to paint if I ever go to do that again.

Nah, he's not such a bad guy. (unless of course you make him mad, LoL)
I had no way to record on my comp- my method was sounding pretty much like *&^#%, and he mailed me a small mixer to hook up to my computer so I could make better recordings. Still using it too. :D

I only do that when I want a fair fight. But when short little knee-jabbers like him get mad and start flailing, I can't help but laff and that just makes them madder
....anyway, I went to Singer Showcase last night and your song was at the top of the list. It was really brite and clear...good recording as far as I could tell on these laptop speakers...I went down the list from there and the others were quite weak and hard to hear...I need to take a better listen on my music computer over the PA speakers.
I may ask you for some tips when I get set up to record my friends. They are nagging me like crazy.

I think- part of it- is because I sing & record at a very loud volume. Part of it could be my mixer settings, my Gain is always turned up a bit. And part of it could be the settings in CEP that I use. I use a bit of reverb, and a tad of echo as well. (after I normalize the bare vocals) I know most people do it different than I do. I usually worry that my voice is too loud in my subs. I never EQ or anything from CEP, cause I don't know how. They sound so different between headphones to speakers, and I know people listen on both, so I kinda go for somewhere that sounds passable on either.

Oh, haha, okay so now I know who you are when you're HERE. After getting your email, you had me searching the site for somebody named "Chance" and of course, I couldn't find you. When you email from the link here, it doesn't give the Karaoke Scene nicname of the sender. Glad you broke the confusion for me. And thanks for letting me know.
"I Don't Feel Like Loving You Today".......... that was a while back that I subbed that song. I didn't realize you had been here- and listening- for that long. Cool. Still, I hope to hear you sing........ someday anyhow.
Thanks Chance, talk with ya later.

Okay, not that any of you are still following this thread, BUT.........
I held out as long as I could, (approximately 24 hours, couldn't hold off till the weekend), and hooked my system up last night. I swear, the dang mixer was calling to me from inside the box begging to be let out. :)
And..... first thing I noticed....... I can hear the FAN running...... and feel AIR coming out of the back vents. So now we know for sure what was wrong with the first mixer I got. I had this new one on & running for about 2 hours, and it stayed on & worked fine. So I'm thinking I should be okay now.
But, there's too many KNOBS on it....... ......... my gosh, I musta turned everything on there thisaway & thataway...... and still have some tweaking to do to really like the sound I'm getting. Vocals actually sounded okay, I found a light FX setting I like- the music seemed to be off kelter a bit though. I have a hard time getting the bass to treble right (if I'm using an EQ rather than "bass" & "treble" knobs........ haha....... I have some learning to do, ya think?!?)
As far as volume: I think my speaks are gonna be fine. I didn't even GET it 1/4 way up, and it was plenty loud enough for my music room. Had my hubby at the door saying "God, that's too loud in the other room, cantcha turn it down a bit?"...... Bingo..... that's what I wanted to hear. :)
If only my voice would come back so I could appreciate it fully...... patience, Charmin, patience!!
Anyhow, I'm just slightly on cloud 9 today...... Had to brag about it SOMEwhere...... even if nobody is reading it. LMAO , so......
Thank you.......thank you very much

TY Keith. (and yes....... very happy right now about my setup)
My voice: Same ol' blah blah that lots of people have been dealing with. I got one of those never-ending colds. Not really a "cold", just a raspiness to my voice- it hasn't been quite right the last few months, it's hard to shake.
I think it's partly..... (I can NOT handle cigarette smoke at all)....... every time I start getting a bit better, I go to karaoke, then I get choked up again from the smoke in the bar...... then I start to get a bit better....... then I go to karaoke again. It's a vicious cycle, LOL. I've now vowed to stay OUT of the bars until my throat loses it's raspiness & I can hit falsetto again. Maybe permanently, I really hate to get around smoke at all, and it's not worth losing my voice- to me- just to go sing in public every week or two. I can sing at home, and have friends over here. (where they have to smoke OUTside) I mean, I have not "lost" my voice- I can just hear a huge difference in where my voice will go- and where it WONT go.
Plus, the house I just moved out of....... we were out of heat (heater was broken) and our house had NO heat for over a month- in most of December & January. I think the cold & damp didn't help me any. Now I've got sinus crum acting up again, and we are having below freezing temps here...... I'm anxiously awaiting spring & summer.

It was voted into law by 65%. All the smokers i've talked that are whining about it admitted they didn't vote - well, tough luck! It is actually one of the toughest non-smoking ban in the nation meaning not only can't you smoke indoors, but you must be 25 feet away from ANY door or window - open or closed. Only ones it doesn't affect is the tribal owned bars & casinos - the place I work is tribal owned so smokers are a little heavier there.

Interesting point Lonman, CT and NY State are very strict as well, yet here in CT. we have a few Casino's that are also on tribally owned land. I guess the two large Casino's here "Foxwoods" and "Mohegan Sun" are exempt from state and certain federal laws. Yet the laws pertain to public places. I have no idea what provisions they make for Indian owned land, yet my guess is they allow them to function as more or less their own sovereign communities. What I don't understand (and I'm not approaching this as a smoker, because I'm not), yet let's assume a law tries to clamp down on a different segment such as the NRA, we know damn well they have a VERY strong voice... There are LOADS of smokers too.. Why isn't there a stronger group of smokers getting together and approaching this from a perspective of violation of individuals rights ? I know the angles, yet it doesn't seem smokers (of which SO many exist) are trying to fight these laws.. Seems strong enough unions can fight and win most anything in time...or at least force compromise. Who knows, perhaps smoke free during prime food restaurant hours, and then something posted on the door.. yet venues choice. As opposed to excessive gov't control... Anyway, I won't go there... .. I know how this stuff can get.. Yet these laws IMHO shouldn't be all or none...
Just something doesn't sit right with me here... Our gov't loves the sale of ciggies since they get fat and happy by taxing them.. Now they are telling people they can't do it because it's not healthy in BARS of all places ? Dunno...
I know the angles of this, yet it just seems weird, as if to say
"You can drink and intoxicate your body that way, and act sloppy, yet absolutely no smoke anywhere is allowed, no bars are allowed this exemption even when posted on premises that smoking is allowed because smoking and it's affects to all around are much more dangerous than alcohol"
Heck if I was a woman working at a bar, I'd much prefer being around smokers, than having to risk walking out to my car with alot of drunken guys around.

But that's the point........ you CAN get drunk, and act sloppy and make yourself puke sick........ without it affecting anyone around you. I mean, I don't get drunk from other people's liquor. (well, except when I sneak their drinks when they go to sing or run to the restroom......) LMAO And I don't do that either, eww, unless it's someone I'm in the habit of sharing bodily fluids with.
But smoking...... second hand smoke is worse on the non-smoker...... I wish to heck they'd ban it here. Not fair we should have to go through that for someone else's habit. Heck, if the chewers spit their tobacco in non-chewers mouths, they'd ban chewing in public. I actually see ALOT of smokers already go outside to smoke- they do so at home, and don't like to be "surrounded" by ciggy smoke with no fresh air.
I'm just gonna have to write the president an email, and see what he can do about it. Been a while since I talked to ol' George anyhow. LOL
(and NOOOOOOO........... that was not meant in a way to turn this thread in a political direction..... )

Char,
i am a non smoker so that will let you know where i am coming from.
i do not get get all political, but you also have the option as a non smoker not to give that bar owner your money. if enough non smokers quit giving him/her their money, he will
A) go out of business or
B) change his/her policies
i see no reason to make laws to protect people when they have the otpion of protecting themselves. all of the rhetoric about alchohol kills more than cigs and all that other crap is just that....crap. what it boils down to is freedom of choice. the freedom to choose whether or not visit a bar that allows smoking. the freedom to choose whether or not to drink. the freedom to choose how a business owner that has paid taxes, operating costs and the like should be run in order to make a profit. i'm not sure when the government went into the private busines sectos, but i wish they'd get out!
