Whooo Hooo!,

I didn't need the new mixer afterall, so I stopped shipment and instead bought the ART Pro Channel mic pre amp. I also had them toss in another SM58 and some Pro-Co patch and mic cables....And I still got some money back!

Anyway, the Art unit is a 3 tube pre amp with a comp and Eq all in one....So far I've read lots of good reviews, but I wonder if any here have tried it?

Generally pre-amps like that are more at home in studio settings, not saying they can't be used live.  You may actually find if it isn't set just right, the mics may be too hot for live thus creating more feedback issues.  For recording, they are a must.
Only thing is, do you use more than 1 mic at shows?  This is a single channel pre-amp which means only one mic will benefit from it - the rest won't e affected at all, which mic do you place it on.  Main singer mic would be most logical choice, however, if you get a duet, one mic is going to always sound flat.  You don't want to stick it on your host mic - what's the point so you'll sound great while talking?

I'm trying to get setup for recording....I'm attempting to assemble a great vocal strip...I'm hoping the Pro Channel is it...Yeah, I am aware is is only single channel...If it works out, I'll buy additional units.....But first a decent studio mic.

Anyone have any experience with it?

Oh ok!  Then yes it's a decent little unit for the price.  I run a small ART pre-amp only & it works great.  The eq on the Pro is very nice.
For a great studio mic at a decent price check out the http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=271593 Rode NT-1 (A) - reviews http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=l ... 93/rpp=10/ or for double the price of the Rode, the Audio Technica 4033 is a killer mic & nothing better in it's price.  You'll find this one in many studios, I have one myself.  Here are some reviews on it http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=l ... 73/rpp=10/

The 4033 really looks good!

Yeah, I especially like that the ART has a sweepable low cut, and the fact you can include or exclude any section on the unit......

Hey, if nothing else, it will be fun to play with!

Thanks

It arrived today! Got it all patched in and warmed up.....Man, I ain't ever sounded so smooth and so full.......Now I gotta play with it and get the comp and EQ just right.

I had just enuff room to rack it below my mixer and above the Numark control panel, so it's really easy to reach and angled at 45 degrees...Gotta take a pic.

yeah,  I recall seeing that green floor in the past,  but just like today something tried upstaging it..  Funny about the distractions, they all seem to have knobs !  You've really got this rack angled nicely btw !

So you like the rack, huh?...I love it!

49 bucks from musiciansfriend

That sucker holds everything you see on top plus my EQ, BBE, powerstrip, another comp and the other half of the Numark....I still have room for another 2U item in the bottom half.

Which Rack was it Keith ?  I'm looking at racks, and don't need anything portable, just durable...I know SKB is good, yet if I can get as sturdy a rack for under 100 that will hold 10+ rack spaces I'd be pretty satisfied...I mentioned something they had awhile back, yet noone has experience with this particular 29 dollar slant rack.

Hey, I'm going to start a show and tell section elsewhere, doubt the techies would want it here, I'm going to show you folks something I just stumbled on while doing my bicenturial closet cleaning.... It's a Permoflux "Dynamic" speaker from the PErmoflux Corp in Chicago-Glendale Ca.

My rack is item 450821

Their photo shows it improperly configured. In the pic they got the top tilted over backwards, so you are looking actually at the back side.

I see one that looks like it from last springs MF catalogue
MX-3 mixer rack stand

Adjustable top frame holds mixer's at any angle level to 45 degrees. Lower frame provides 8 rack spaces for amps, etc, Wheels allow entire rack to be moved easily and lock when you want it to stay put

Item # 450225
List 122.10
99.99

49.99

Is that a house brand ?

That's it! except it goes by new item number now.

No name on the box that I recall, so house brand I guess.

But it was exactly what I needed. You can see I have the music pc on one small rollaround stand and the mixer on the other....That makes it real easy to get comfortable and have it all in reach....I can position my self right between them and roll them to adjust.....

That rig sets in a corner to the right of the dance pole.....I can sit there and control the whole show and not miss anything!...it's snaked to the PA and video monitor all the way across the room.

When are you going to show the floor, and decor around the dance pole ?  I'm curious to see how you trimmed the linoleum around the pole.

and just when was the last time you vacuumed behind the desk, and dusted the baseboards ?  Is that a cobweb I see on the wall behind that mixer ?

Unfortuneately Keith,  I bought a few Hard Shell Cases from MF, and they were honestly horrible.. A few were defective, they arrived with the pocket floating around in the case, staples came undone :(   Cheaper than alot of Chipboard cases, A few were seriously defective too...After that time, I fear buying any MF friend "house" item that is more detailed than a polishing cloth, or guitar pick...Bad luck with "their" brands.... Anyway, what I learned was if I want to protect equipment with a decent quality hardshell case don't go less than TKL, or SKB brands... (I'm running out've places to stick my AMS decals   LOL )

Ha!...I know what you want to see....I'll save those for email, ok?

The pole?...I snagged a 9' piece of 1 1/4" stainless thick walled pipe and polished it to a satin finish....Then I bought two threaded regular pipe flanges and machined out the threads so the pole could spin freely....Then I reinforced the ceiling and mounted the pole upper flange....The bottom flange has a hidden piece of formica under it and acts like a superslick bearing so the pole spins real easy even when used....The bottom flange I screwed into the concrete with special anchor screws and made sure they were flush so the gals wouldn't hurt their little dainty toes....And yep, I screw right thru the flooring....I doubt I'll ever remove the pole  cause I plan to remain single, so who cares that I damaged the flooring? LOL

There are two dance poles in this whole parish/county...One is at my house. :yum:
