I say one is too drunk when the following happens:
- they can't read a book
- they can't write a slip
- they take a page out of the book and use that as their slip
- they cannot walk withought staggering or grabbing something for support
- they come up and the first thing out of their mouth is screaming or a curse word
- they can't understand the concept of a rotation
- they spill their drink

any of the following are signs of drunkeness, more than 2 and they are too drunk

if you can't find it in the books you can't sing
also (and I learned this thr hard way ) when you want to sing "man of constant sorrow "  Jerry Garcia style you are way to drunk to sing and by the way even Jerry was rolling in his grave  it WAS that bad

I normally scope them out when they are comming up to sing.  then if I can tell they have had to much. I will alert the Bartender. (good business) That way the club is aware. then It is in the clubs hands. I use cordless mic in my show I am very observant of who I let use them If I dont know them or I think that they may be at risk the use the corded mics that I have on the stands.  the system that I run in not in harms way of damge due to the public.
