I feel like sometimes I could have a sitcom for the crap that happens
in my bar. I have this regular whiner that comes to my show everynight. One of those guys who is a "oh woo is me" kind of guy. He b!tches about everything behind my back. I even confronted him a couple of times asking him if there is a problem, but to my face denies everything.

Well last night was horribly busy. So he is saying horibble things about me because he isn't getting to sing enough. People are telling me and I am just ignoring it. I figure whiner Phil is just being himself (that's what the regulars call him). He is just making himself look bad.

Now it's late into the night. He is as drunk as a skunk. He has been flipping me off from the crowd every time I turn my back. Now one of the other regulars lay into him and tell him to leave me alone. He comes up to sing. I'm still treating him normal. I turn my back for 1 min. and he starts messing with the equipment. The graphics on the screen go nuts. Now I'm pissed! The bar is packed full of people and I turn his song off. I announce on the microphone  YOU'RE DONE FOR THE NIGHT.
He gets off the stage screaming at me. The bouncer is trying to settle him down and he thows a chair at me from 6ft away. Of course he is so drunk it makes it about 2ft.

No he did not get barred. He sat at the other end of the bar the rest of the night. I told the bouncer, he is never singing here again unless I get an apology and if I ever here a negative word out of him again from anyone, it will be his last chance.

Needless to say several people offered to walk me to my car because of his threats. Bring it on buddy. I may be 5'6" girl, but I'll kick your butt, drunk a$$ whiner Phil.

Lucky top!

Oh, I got it.  Yeah you are going to get those kind of idiots on ocassion.  I'm surprised the security didn't have your back before that.  Man if that crap happens to me, first they get cut off from drinking then they get booted for the night & depending on severity, from the bar permanently.

Yehaw!

That's time to rodeo where I hang!

Girl, you shoulda wadded him up in a mic cord and then stomped on him...I'm surprized no one in the crowd had any grief with him before he got stupid with you. Usually guys like that tend to piss off those closest to him first and the problem never goes beyond that cause someone in reach will drop him quick.

Anyway,...Glad you didn't get hurt.

Lady, learn to defend yourself........Don't even open your mouth next time...Just kick him hard you know where, and then knee him in the mouth when he bends over double.....He'll go down on his knees then.... once he goes down, kick him hard in the ribs.....When he does get up, he will be looking for the shortest path to the door.

Then some dude will plant his Stetson on your head as everyone cheers.

I'm with Lonnie. Security should have had your back WAYYYYYY before that idiot ever got to sing. The moment you heard about his behavior, it was your responsibility to act on it. Since you didn't, you had only to act on what he did.

The fact that he threw the chair should have been enough to get him out. The fact that he messed with your equipment is enough to NEVER allow him to sing. Even WITH the apology!

I don't understand why the bar babysit's for nuisance patron's like that

1)      He's flipping you off noticeably, OK....Perhaps that within itself isn't grounds to
         bar him

2)      he starts messing with the equipment. The graphics on the screen go nuts.
also nuisance behaviour, these are still adult's over 21 right ?

3)      He gets off the stage screaming at me. The bouncer is trying to
settle him down and he thows a chair at me from 6ft away.

Pal, we can't have that here, time to take some time off, find another
place to go for awhile, in a few months from now, when you learn to
control your behaviour, you'll be able to return here

4)       Needless to say several people offered to walk me to my car because of his
          threats

Better yet Phil, take a year off, We don't want to see you anyplace around
this establishment for a year..We don't tolerate threatening bodily harm to
our employee's male or female, that's inexcusable...If in a year you still
act this way, you're banned indefineately. Go grow up someplace else

you go girl, but IMO you should have never had to do anything....the security at the bar should have taken care of it from the beginning before it got out of hand....shouldn't that be their responsiblity?  you should be able to feel safe there AND when you leave....

grrrrrrrrrrr i'm pissed too (god i hate these censors, now i have to go to the bathroom.... LOL )

I'd be going to the bar manager and telling, not asking, him to permanently bar the idiot.  Around here he'd be gone long before that and once a weapon (ie Chair) was picked up, gone for life, if used, whether it hit anything or not, arrested and at least a nights stay courtesy of the Queen.  It is NOT tolerated here.

This is one where I wonder if gender did play into it.   From what I've seen security, or someone, might have been more apt to approach/cut off the guy with his finger gestures as that is sometimes all it takes to start something if he were doing it to a man.

It may not be entirely gender based but whether it's a girly girl or not.  First off, if he was drunk as a skunk I don't let him sing, to much potential for damage to my equipment.  If I felt he was not so drunk he couldn't sing and someone told me he was flipping me off behind my back but coming up and turning in songs; I might ask the person if there was a problem, at that time he/she would have stated what their problem was or not and PERHAPS that may have stopped it.

I agree this individual should have been booted that night.  I'm not sure what kind of security you have tho, if yours is like some of ours; security consists of the barback & the bartender...

We've done somewhat the same thing about regaining singing privileges (thankfully no one has ever thrown anything at us but attititude --knock wood) and required an apology.  Anyone can make a mistake and since this is a bar scene some mistakes can get amplified.  We have had a few "I'm sorry for....." and never had another problem from them again.  Heck, one of these days I'll need to apologize for SOMETHING....

Susie :)

I have done gigs with hell's angels ands son s of silence bike clubs either at Sturgis or here in co...I have had gigs in the meanest bars around..  When I have troulble I shut the music off and I am on the mic telling everybody what is going on and the way it will be...If the bartender and security doesnt know what is going on and dont support you then I would politely tell the owner and manager bye.....

I have read your previous posts You are in an "employee or hired entertainment status the one doing the hiring is responsible for your safety" and if the bartender does not care about you I would find another gig..

Damn, Babs... that skucs!!

I agree with Matt..... he touches the equipment... he's not a singer at "YOUR SHOW" EVER again.  He's giving you or the other patrons trouble ... he's "OUTTA THERE" ... and for good!

Guess we are lucky.....we have an agreement with our clubs/bars that WE run the room.  if somone acts up at our shows...we decide if the show continues (much like Karayoker)  ... and we tell security who we want bounced.

At this one place... we had a guy sing a song ... and then heckle our next 3 singers.  We told him he was done singing.  He got Pi^&ed .... and started shouting at me.  Within 15 seconds.. I had a bouncer showing him the door.  He's come back several times.. and tried to apologize... but guess what... he will NEVER sing with us again.

As for the whiners... we always try to know where else there is a Karaoke show happening the same night.. and when they WHINE too loudly ... we tell them that they can always go sing at ___________'s.  I've even offered directions.   :reddevil:

Bab's,  this is the same owner, and bar we are talking about, correct ?
Is it really any wonder ?  You've got to get out've that place.. The owner doesn't
seem to respect you, and this is just another example of the type of place it is there.
What's pathetic is that from what you've described of this owner, *HE* wouldn't have even walked you to your car given that circumstance....Find a job where you get abit of respect from the venue you work in.  At least try to, you've been having ALOT of trouble with this bar for awhile.

I'm all set up just ready to get my coffee
in place and start the first song and in walks a guy with 2 guitars. What the heck?

The owner booked a band the same night I was booked and didn't tell anyone.
He's on vacation basically letting the bar run itself. He has one of the bartenders
being manager with no authority.

So we sit around for about a half an hour while she is trying to get a hold of him on the phone. Mean while she finds the flyers for the band behind the register in the back. So we were both deffinately booked for the same night. He finally answers the phone and decides to go with the band.

Dang Babs! You sound like a feisty little stick of dynamite...he he he. :newlol:

Bring it on buddy. I may be 5'6" girl, but I'll kick your butt, drunk a$$ whiner Phil.

That dude just has bad manners, maybe you should adjust 'em for him?
Maybe he likes you...like a whole bunch? :newlol:

Sounds a bit dangerous there. :(
If the bar staff won't protect you, I'd say...get yourself a regular boyfriend and tell him as a condition of your continued love and commitment to him, he has to be in the kj booth with you at every show. I don't think that's too much to ask of a dude, it seems to work for the kj where I go.    :biggrinthumb:

I called the owner Saturday before I went into work and explained what happened.
Whiner Phil happens to be a friend of his. He backed me up completely and said he would have a talk with him. I think he was more worried about his chair getting thrown then me though.
I walked into work Sat. night and Whiner Phil was waiting there ready to apopolgize.
I told him if I ever heard him complain about me again he'd never sing again and if he has a problem to come to me! Of course I got the I was drunk ruitine. Sorry not an excuse.
