I saw where MrOctober just bought the Roland CD2..........Man, that looks like a nice unit, but I'm not sure if it is what I need.
I don't need it portable. I want to be able to record hi quality here at the house.
I already have a mixer, a decent multimedia PC and mics and all that....I also have a superior soundcard......So what do I need-just software and some quality monitor speakers?...Or do i need an outboard device like the CD2?
I've some friends who know about my PA system, but they want to be able to record themselves live using keyboard, guitars such.....I would like to be able to accommodate them, but I ain't sure how to get started.
Help!

Keith,
I have a roland br-1600 it is a 16 real track, 256 virtual track recorder. It has a great drum machine, and built in hard drive. Plenty of effects. I love mine.

Keith if I rember right you have a delta44.... The way I record is simple.. I use 1/2 in for stereo and run the outs of the dbx266xl into 3/4... When recording karaoke set the record control panel>sounfs audio dev>audio to M-Audio Delta44 Monitor Mixer.. That way I can record the music from 1/2 out or from 1/2 in (mixer output) For small bands you need more ins I'm debating between another 44 or 1010..
As for as sofware I have both Cakewalk Home Studio 200 and Sonar3....Then you can multi track mix down wtithfx and master for pref...
For live karaoke I mute everything except the mics.. Roxbox just takes a check mark and it records the vocal into a wav file which is imported into sonar 3 with the music then syncd and same proceedure..

Yea it's the same just has the added s/pdif digital i/os. I am not familiar with acid pro but I think it multitracks and should work just fine...
The first one I got was Cakewalk Music Creator Then Home Studio 2004 Then I really spurged and got Sonar3.. Its just what I am used to now... But it's just a matter of learning all the ins and outs of whatever you are using..Its not the price of the system or software its the talent of the one doin it!
