I haven't a clue what this is about, so I'm signing onto AOL and on the AOL welcome screen I'm sure AP has something in the New's section
Take care Charmin... (Either that or one of the cable news channel's...I'll do a search for your area.)
OK, It's only 12:30 PM Western time.. AP must be working on it..

Yeah, but even a bombthreat would be in the Willamette local newspapers most likely..
Bombthreats here in central CT, are all too frequent. Last month every court in CT was shutdown by one.. In the 60's for some reason, we had one AT LEAST every other week in the elementary schools. No exaggeration, anyway, glad everything's OK....I saw on the 17th of this month there was a lockdown because of a "possible' suspicious person lurking around one of the schools in that area...I guess that was rumor. Take care.
Strange thing is around here, they'd likely call an old cop, the fire dept, and a dog for a bomb threat. Even with 9-11 in the not so distant past. These are just all too common..In fact it got to the point that if my nephew called my sister on the phone even currently from his HS on cellphone, she'd likely say;
"Again" ?
(I wonder how many of these idiot's calling in bombthreat's realize that threatening a school is a federal offense, or even care :( )

Charmin ~ I finally saw on the news what you've been talking about here. Maybe there is more to this threat than they're letting onto so far. But they haven't found anything yet. The dang trains going through town block traffic enough so now we have a bomb scare! All schools are vulnerable these days - big town or small town.

I'll see if I can get an inside scoop from a friend Larry Kraxberger. He works as
a school security guy there.

With the exception of difficulty finding call's made from payphones which most caller's doing this type of thing use. Don't most school's now have advanced caller ID ? Similar to what 911, and Hospital ER's would have ? Assuming a person isn't in one of the very few area's that still doesn't have the caller ID feature. Some stupid kid thought he'd blocked his number a few months back. Unbeknownst to him, you can't when calling into a school office around here.
Don, Helicopter's however ? Nothing I've ever known around here for the standard called in bomb threat. Prison escapee, or loose black bear, and fire sure. They've used them for infrared detection, yet not sure how this would apply.

Stevem ~ Odds are we're talking news choppers here. We have about four local stations in Portland that are just dying to be the first on the block to get the latest news bite.

Apaprentl;y there was a bomb threat made against the high school. A sign was painted at the grade school. The students were evacuated to a church then bussed home. Waht I heard on the radio.

Glad everything's OK. It'd be nice to live in a small town like that IMHO.
Don yeah, We get a few copter's around perhaps 2X per year.. Either bad accident and they airlift someone or several. Or someone spotted a black bear within a few miles of a residential area, and the place goes into lifte threatened panic mode LMAO. Last time the cops were called in my complex was around late summer. Pool attendant found an 8 foot ringneck ratsnake in the pump room. Those critters get BIG ! Believe me, if I stumbled upon that thing they'd have to call one of those airlifting copters.
Once again Charmin, Glad nothing serious happened.

The other big thing which may or may not play into things is the election of Hamas by the Palestinians. The Middle East has become just that much more dangerous. It just adds fuel to the fire. But the odds are it was just a prank, 99% are however, it's that 1% you have to worry about. Hopefully your child waited til thay were well away from the school before calling you, as there is always a small chance a transceiver may activate a detonator.

Charmin, i hope everything is ok! i don't watch much TV (don't have the time), so i haven't heard anything about this. i would guess that the worst feeling in the world is not knowing if your children are safe or not. thankfully your son was able to call adn hopefully your daughter is well, also! keep those of us who don't have immediate acces to the TV posted and i'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

Well here's an update on the Canby High School bomb threat. The Canby police caught the two students that had made the threat. The police had received a tip from somebody. One of the students involved was already on a previous suspension. The threat had been written on a playground wall at a Canby elementary school. Anyway, things seem OK now. ~ Don
