The Samsons are decent for the price but the AKG's are actually good mics.  If I was choosing between them the AKG's are a no brainer.

For $850 I think you could have Josh Grobin's larynx transplanted into your body and just improve your voice that way.

Yeah but that is just someone on another forum spouting off what he "thinks" he knows as fact.  Don't know how much stock i'd take into it.

Actually, the guy is right on in most of his little rant. Both mics have extremely similar specs. BUT, he messes up on his $$ figures BIG TIME!!

The AKG D8000S retails for $49.99

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=271173

The AKG D60S retails for $34.99.

http://www.zzounds.com/item--AKGD60S

For $15 difference from the same manufacturer, OF COURSE you'd expect them to have ver similar specs!!

In fact, I found another article that states that the AKG D8000S is made EXCLUSIVELY for musician's friend by AKG.

With that fact, these could very well be the same exact mic with different color windscreens, and the $15 markup is simply a marketing/production issue.

But musiciansfriend.com put a list price of $399 on the D8000S, then sell for $49.99
The list price is really a trick that they play to attract you. I don't think that's the right way to do business

I don't know how much stock a person should put into ratings. Yet I always read them. When you look at microphone's such as the Shure SM-58 & SM-57 and Shure Beta series (looking at the same MF catalogue) you see 100-200 people that have rated microphones well into the 9 rating.. To me that say's something.  When you see such a high rating after a large number of reviews, I beging to feel more confident that for the most part, this is a satisfactory product.  Although the microphones you see are considerably less money, the D-8000S certainly doesn't seem like a contender for the same microphone as the better trusted SM-58 or Beta 58...I suppose it get's into the same question I always ask, "When is it better to spring a few extra bucks for the POMG you get knowing you bought a good product?", and when is it safe to cut corner's and save a few bucks.
