Ha, ha.  It's a BLX-80, not a BMX-80!!  It's a bass amp, not a bike. Get it right Don!

It's amazing Don,  In our day you didn't get bass sound out've 2x8's, 2x10's...or usually anything smaller than perhaps a folded horn with 2x12's... for configurations, a cab with bass speakers that only had 10" cabs had either 4x10's, or as in the case of my SVT classic 8x10's.... I had a Sunn Reflex Bin that was Fiberglass with 2x15" JBL's... Thing must've weighed 300+ lbs, and was for outdoor use, because it was a projection cab. Yep, tough to believe that Trace has 2x10  (2102) cabs rated at 200 watt's RMS these days, and 1153 single 15" cabs rated at 300 watts RMS, as dies SWR, Eden, Ampeg, and everyone else.... Things are different today.... I have all sorts of cab configs and heads from the 60's-90's....but I still don't think SS for bass can touch tube....I like the Ampeg heads with fewer features when compared to SWR, TE, or Hartke... I like the GK head sound for classic styles thing is, their crapping out record was pretty good too....As far as weight goes ?  Classic SVT head (I think 6 6L6's)  90 lbs (just the head), the cab close to 200 lbs...  FORGET IT !     No more...

Aria Pro basses had really really nice necks...They were crafted well too... I didn't recall the smaller scale, yet the longer scale bass necks such as some of the two octave necks, and even the jazz bass necks are longer than I'd like them to be at this point in my life.  I liked the Mustang, and Gibson EBO shorter scale necks, they were about 3/4 scale, actually EBO was abit longer... I have small fingers.. always liked shorter scale necks for faster playing...

Heck, for years I played a 3/4 size fiddle, haha.  I just graduated a few years ago to a full size, cause I won it at a state fair contest.

You might be better off with the smaller violin, and shorter bow....All depends, there's no reason you can't stick with 3/4 size.. If that's what you are comfortable with

Charmin, I played violin for years, and if a violinist who has 4 inch fingers and is well over 6 feet tall can play a full size violin, I can make due with a 3/4 size instrument... I own both...and in actuality, my 3/4 size is a better czech made instrument... I think we learn that "adults" play a full sized violin, and those are the real instruments....  In reality, I have an easier time these days (because I've gotten lazy, and I'm now mildly arthritic) with smaller neck string instruments...I don't have long fingers, and If I wasn't terribly afraid of really screwing up technique, I'd buy a 3/4 scale guitar, and just keep it laying around as a practice instrument.... I'm just afraid that might be a lousy habit to get into....(I have too many full sized really nice instruments)....Not sure I should cave in to my laziness, and nurture that

Charmin ~ It's a great picture!  Oh I know you don't tease the boys intentionally.  But boys will be boys and they can read a lot more into things then you want them to! LOL

I'm going to post some shot's I just took with my logitech cam...As I stated, I collect miniature's, and to give you an idea of this violin's size, I've placed quarters in the case, also you can see my hand holding the instrument as a reference... It's a real (although not great quality) Violin, It's a working violin (fully functional) and it's one of my miniature instruments.... I've posted a few photo's of it...Just got the idea because we were discussing small violins.... LOL

Oh yes, tubes have the tone, but SS seems to have the power.  i always wanted one of those Ampeg bass heads.  I can't remember the model number.  Those tube amps had the tone and the power.  Right now I'm getting my E-mu ESI-32 sampler up and running again.  I was in 'SCSI hell' there for awhile trying to get the CD drive and hard disk to be recognized by it.  I've got some good sample disks for it with some old Vox, Farfisa and Hammond sounds.  I also have a good Mellotron disk.
I can get that Strawberry Fields intro pretty accurately.  It's fun!

and don't try to view my ugly puss.... I'm in my bed attire   and unkempt LOL

I wish I could shrink the Hammond B-3, and Steinway BG down to that size,  would make doing certain things behind these instruments much easier... I could've given you an indication just how small that violin is by placing it next to something even smaller  (oh shutup pervs)

Yeah Don, Because the B-3 sound relies solely on Leslie placement and sould reflection, my Korg, and Roland does a better XB, and B tonewheel organ than the B-3....Which is essentially Doppler affect, but not great sounding assuming the leslie cab isn't properly placed.....Mellotron is still around in canada, and making the Pinder model.... and a few others....Novatron is being reissued by them too I think....IMHO, the analog tape loop is a much more realistic recreation than digital....It allows for some of the random aspects of analog... Yet I'm not going to get into anything technical, because I'll take a beating  LMAO ...  Tube had the smoother distortion, IMHO has more warmth and depth of sound....Even for bass which is not quite as discernible as the higher guitar frequencies.... I have Trace, but prefer the vintage Ampeg's with the 7027, and 6L66's...... Fender, Marshall, Soldano too....My gear is mostly vintage tube.... As are my 37 electric guitars mostly vintage guitars

NEVER lend a woman your Trace Elliot.

(That's what I always say)

Farfisa tone I can live without...LOL...Same with the Vox panther tone...

Wurlitzer EP200, and Fender Rhode's as well as acoustic piano samples, and Variations of the Hammond sound are nice keyboards to have IMHO

Steven ~
Oh for sure, if you're a guitarist, there's really no reason in the world to have anything except tube amps.  FET preamps could imitate a tube sound, but why bother if you can get the real deal.  Actually for bass applications, an Alembic preamp and a Crown or Yamaha power amp worked really well.  30+ electric guitars, all vintage! You're quite the serious musician!  If I just had a Strat, Tele. Les Paul, SG, Gibson 350 or is it 35?, Rickenbacker 12 string and toss in a Country Gentleman, I'd be happy!

American Standard Strat
American Standard Tele
SG Standard (or 62 LP-3 PU with Vibrola tail)
LP Standard or Custom.
ES-335, 345, or 355 will suffice, the 330 had no center block and fedback...355 had
the rotary knob, and was stereo, yet 335, and 345 (slightly thicker body) are better..IMHO...355
Rick 360 or 330-12 aren't bad....

Yeah, The Gretsch Country Gentleman isn't halfbad...LOL... I'd take a white Penguin of course...and a vintage ES-5, switchmaster, or if I must settle ES-775, Citation, or Johnny Smith... ... I'll take the cheaper hollow body GIbson, or D'Angelico New Yorker for Jazz.... I suppose I'd settle for a D'aquisto too....Since I've never drooled over the Korina late 50's Firebirds or Explorers that had Orion bluebook appraisal values of 70-105K a few years back. I'll go with practical, and sound  :worship: [/quote]

Alembic

Did you ever play an Alembic bass such as the distillate ?  Pretty nice guitars. The "exploited market" aka vintage market is really getting great money for TravisBean Guitars too now-adays...I'd love one actually, good construction...

Don, a guitar that never caught on that I loved....The les paul recording, or personal  (two Low impedance PU's) walnut or mahogany and weighed (like most LP's) somewhere between 200-250 lbs (without strings),  yet when played direct into a board, that was a nice sounding guitar....Even with the Gibson matching low imp amp made for a short time.... Now-adays, market value for the early-mid-70's Low imp LP personal or recording....about 400-800 bucks.... Turned out to be a goose egg....Yet I'd love to grab one.....with an imp adaptor get's really nice sounds....
