Boy did we get the snow. I thought I was going to be snowed in at my
show tonight. (Chicago area)
I joked that if we all had to stay there that I got to sleep on the pool table.
Strangest thing was the place was packed.
Roads were closed and we lost power for a while. Everyone kept singing even when the lights went out - it was a blast.
Have you guys ever had an experience like this? Bad weather and the show still goes on? I feel like the mailman.

We don't get snow too often here, but the few times it does, it seems people like to get out & party - nice huh? Get drunk & go drive on snowy roads.
Some of our funnest times is when the power goes out. Our club has a couple back up generators - 1 for the bar (cash registers & fridge, the other for the karaoke circuit). Only lights are candles, no tv's except for the stage, darts are down so nothing to BUT sing & drink in the dark.

being in cetral texas we don't get much snow here either. we do get really bad thunderstorms though. everyone aks like they're 9 years old and gets all excited, but after the initial BIG BOOM thunder dies down it gets back to what passes for normal. only had the power go out on a show once. and pretty much the same thing happened. someone would start singing a song acapella and the whole bar would join in. that and you'd hear the obligatory male voice holler "get your hand off my thigh, James!" just to get a laugh. power came back on after about 30 minutes i guess and we went back to partying. the best thing was that since the registers were electric, they couldn't ring anything up. busy bar+no electricity+one bartended=a free beer or two because she forgot to write them down.

We missed the snow Babs, and sent it all up your way. All we got was a little bit of cold down here near St. Louis.
Good thing the power came back on, cause sleeping on a pool table in a bar full of possible drunks in the dark.. .... nevermind, I wont go there.
Lonman, sounds like they know where the priorities are, backup power only for the bar and the karaoke!
Luckily we have only had a power hit once during a show, and it came right back on. I first thought the amp was blown, but it was just the power strip had shut down and had to be reset. That scare was enough to make me use a surge suppressor all the time.

Babs--we got a bunch of snow last night too (I'm just north of Milwaukee on Lake Michigan) and my room was FULL! I think around you people go out when it snows just to throw a big F.U. at the snow, it ain't keepin' me trapped in my house! LOL

Well the weather has settled. Wow really pretty - the snow blanketed all the trees like frosting on a cake. I woke up to a bright snowy day. It is a nice change from the grey days we've been having. I have lived in Illinois all my life, I can't imagine not having the snow.
Lonman - karaoke by candle light. That sounds romantic.
Big Mike- I like the FU theory.
Wazanokie - Thanks for the snow - I think.

We did recreate that on Valentines day as well, turned off all the lights with nothing but candles - well ok the dart boards & stage were lit up like normal.

Populated small areas, darkness, alcohol and dart's can lead to problems ..
Not sure when "Jarts" (lawn darts) became illegal... I think it was around early/mid 1980's.. but we used to do some stupid and potentially lethal things such as playing "moonlight jarts" at keg parties during the late 70's...I suppose because some of us didn't use common sense, the game became illegal..
<sorry, didn't mean to threadjack the "snow" thread...just got me thinking>

Don't know about lawn darts, they are still sold here as far as I know, but try playing midnight horseshoes & you can get a pretty good bump on the noggin.

Well the power managed to go off during karaoke last night where I was, took a few minutes to get the tripswitch found and reset... would have to happen while I was singing wouldn't it?

It was just in the intro - a few bars before I would have started - but I probably would have kept going if it was a song I knew well enough and I was actually literally singing at the time, although nobody would have heard with the mic down as well.

So are you saying its one of those places where people don't wear shirts and I have to have a guy get me in?? $4.00 for a beer is quite spendy.... I was traveling with a pack of wolves, they probably would have enjoyed that
