sorry if this has been asked before.  i did a search, but i had no luck finding anything.   where do i plug my mic in to record on my computer?  i know there's a 1/8" mic input on the back alongside where i plug my speakers in.  is that it?  i can get a 1/4" to 1/8" converter so that's not a problem.  i have three software options to use - sony music studio, sony sound forge 7, or audacity downloaded from the web.
sorry to be an ignoramous, but the only recordings i have were done in a studio by a pro.  i wasn't paying too much attention to what he was doing.
thanks in advance for any advice!

If you don't have a mixer, use the line in input and set the recording level in the control panel - sound and audio devices

ok, but do i just plug the mic into the mic input after i've done that?
i really appreciate the help, thanks guys.
also,
i have a mixing board and all of the karaoke equipment.
Allstar, are you saying i can run a line out of my sound board into the computer mic input, then just run my karaoke setup per normal?  sorry, i'm not all that technical with the computer stuff.  i'm not using a computer hosting software.  i do it the "old fashion" way with a JVC player, sound board, etc.

If you have a mixer with a player and mic already connected to the mixer, then you want a pro level sound card.

Go look at the M-Audio Delta 44......It will allow you to patch straight in to your PC using real world sized pro audio cables...And it will also provide proper line level matching.

If you already have a mixer, player, mic and all that, then you are just a sound card away from making pro sounding recordings on your computer.

bumping this one......
kieth, i have one more question.  i checked on the m-audio 44 and some other sound cards.  most of them show a connectivity with an external cd recorder.  is it not possible to record to the hard drive then burn a cd?  thanks yet again for the input.

very possible and I think that is what you should be doing. a CD recorder would just make tihng easier but I think if yo uare already using a computer than you don't need one.
