Saying that I am a software pirate becasue I use cheaper software than thoes using MTU shows that you just name calling!

Yes, people using expensive software can be in it to make $$$$, but my using cheaper software makes my bottom line bigger than if I used more expensive software.  That is just a fact, not conjecture like you calling me a pirate!

I will not appologize for my comments about this subject, becasue I was not name calling or making assumptions, like you did when you called me a PIRATE!

I assume the plextor is also a burner?  If it reads the CDG subcode, it should be able to write it.  Check the Plextor website for the specs, but I would think it should be able to write the subcode too.   If it dosent, get a plextor that can red/write the CDG subcode.

What model is the plextor you have?

LOL true, you don't have to give up your first born son, but you do need a CD/DVD+R CD+G burners (recorders) from MTU are certified to read and write the Karaoke CD+G format

Lonman,

The KMA format MTU uses is very similar to the Zipped MP3+G format. It in fact does involve TWO files. When you launch a song with Hoster you'll find TWO files in your WIndows TEMP folder. A MP3 File (Audio) and another file with an extension ".zzz" (Lyrics File just like a conventional CDG File). The audio file is a standard MP3 file with a bitrate of 192kbps.

Hoster simply extracts these TWO files from the KMA file when launching a song. After the song completes the TWO files are deleted.

I've always enjoyed reading your responses since they are all very informative and factual. So I felt you needed to be informed of this.

Don't recall saying you WERE a pirate.  I did say "guess" & asked the question so back off!

Woop-tee-doo.  Your "BOTTOM LINE" is a big $100-maybe $200 over the course of how long?  You make it sound like everyone who spends money (1 time I might add) on a program, over getting programs for free, are stupid for spending the money.  So someone who buys the program once over your free downloads once say over the course of 5 years would only be out the cost of the software...Hell I spend more than that on discs per week.

Show me ONCE were I called YOU by name or anything else a "pirate"?

Lonman,

I've done some more interesting investigation of the KMA format MTU uses, When a song is launched in Hoster TWO files are created in the WIndows TEMP folder...

A MP3 file with a bitrate of 192kbps.
A "zzz" file that is actually simply a renamed ZIP file. Rename the file to a ZIP and open it with WInzip or the like. Guess what you'll find...

TWO Files, an MP3 and a standard CDG. It IS a Zipped MP3+g file just as ALL the others use!

After further investigation I find that a KMA file IS simply a ZIPPED MP3+G file with 256 extra bytes added to the front of the file. After stripping the 256 bytes it becomes a fully functional ZIPPED MP3+G File. Interesting for those users that have thousands of KMA files and wish to switch to another player that spports Zipped MP3+G Files!

This really means nothing, just wanted to prove that the audio quality of a KMA file is EXACTLY the same as a 192kbps Zipped MP3+G file because they ARE Exactly the SAME!

Whats  out now is the 740 and it states on the back that for cdg it is read ONLY. The salesman wasnt to sure but he said that I could return it in the next 30 days if it didnt do what I needed it to do. Price was 188.00 for the external one. Sounds like mtu promises that their burners will work. I really want to get going on this....peace love karaoke and rokkenroke

Sorry, no it doesn't.  The kma file is based on the wma file not a mp3 - completely different coding & the graphic is an underlying code within the file.  wma files utilize the entire musical spectrum of the original source while mp3 coders "throw out" frequencies that we supposedly can't hear - extreme highs & lows.  Which is why wma files have been considered to be "lossless compression".
YES there IS a difference in the end result when compared side by side.

Just out of curiosity I played several Hoster kma files & couldn't find ANYTHING resembling what you are talking about in any temporary folder - while playing, after playing or anything else.

Sorry to disagree Lonman.

Open your Windows File Explorer and type %temp% in the address field. This will bring you to the Windows Temp folder. With this folder open launch a song in Hoster. You'll find TWO new files added to the TEMP folder....

One MP3 file and ONE "zzz" file. The MP3 file is for audio. The "zzz" file is actually a renamed ZIP file just like the ordinary Zipped MP3+G files used by others.

Like I said, obtain a free hex editor on the net and open any KMA file. Strip the first 256 bytes from the file and save it as a "ZIP" file. You'll then have a fully functional Zipped MP3+G file containing an MP3 file and a CDG file.

Anyone else care to try this and report your results?

I tried what you said, and 2 files were created:
JET18.tmp 0KB
out.dat   3MB this files grows and grows as you play.
Another reason to run a utility to delete all the crap out of your folders when you start your machine.

Yep you are right 2 new files were added, however they weren't nothing what you were saying.  These are the 2 new files that opened up

Quote:
out.dat  4,783kb
JETDE.tmp  0kb

Not a single mp3 file, zzz file or anything else.

One MP3 file and ONE "zzz" file. The MP3 file is for audio. The "zzz" file is actually a renamed ZIP file just like the ordinary Zipped MP3+G files used by others.

Nope!  Tried it several difference ways, once I did get a cdg file & another dat file, but not a single mp3 or "zzz" file.

Insanity, Insanity.....I am in the KJ business to make money, and the cheaper my costs ($42 S&D vs $200 MTU)   More money I have$$$$$$$$

Man if you are really into Laganappe (something for nothing), You need to move here. We have places where you can BE A KJ with absolutely no investment and make money for every minute you are breathing. There are karaoke shows here on every corner where the bar own's their own equipt, and has their own disks. They will pay you $10.00 an hour, or free drinks. But hey, you don't have to spend any money!!!!!! All Profit. Hey, but thats not all, We also have hazardous duty pay during hurricanes.

You know, I learned 30 years ago When I was a Mechanic, I could use a hammer and cheisel and fix things, with little or no expense. Or buy the right tool, and do the repair in half the time, and do it right the first time.  More profit with the hammer and cheisel, but hurt like hell when I missed and hit my hand.

I found out that MP3g's retain their mp3 characteristics when imported into KMA format.  Which is why someone might be able to see an MP3 file in the temp folder.

Hoster uses WMA compression when importing CDG's from either discs or hard drive, not MP3.

This was a quote from their admin
Quote:
"Hoster 3.10x will allow you to convert MP3+G or their ZIP equals directly into the Songs Database using a "new KMA" format based on the MP3 already in the MP3+G file.

It also allows converting .cdg or .bin files on the hard drive directly into our "classic KMA" format using WMA compression.

So basically if it's coming from an actual cdg or hard drive (cdg or bin file) - it is using WMA based compression, if it's using an mp3 based rip, it will basically remain an mp3g.

MTU makes some good products but I like the easy way that RoxBox's search engine is easier to use. Just type what you need to know. No worry about is it the artist or the bookid or the title. When MTU incorporates this into Hoster, I'll be back.
