going out alone is really a kick, although i don't do it much anymore since i got married.  the best thing about being alone is that you have to entertain NO ONE except yourself.  i love to people watch, so being alone is a big advantage.

A few comments about singing in a new bar for the first time...I'm always early wherever I go so when the show starts I've got a feeling for the crowd and have become aquainted with  some of them.  I have maybe helped the kj haul in and setup...

Then when my turn comes up I'll grab the mic and say in a calm but energetic voice "Hey hello there my name is Ollie I'm down here from Colorado You got a nice place here Bob (kj's first name) said he would let me do some Shelton"   Then I sing a song that I know all the words to never look at the monitor and sing to the crowd... When the song is ended The most important thing is this "Thank you Bob that was awesome and look at the crowd and say Thank You"   Hang up the mic and go shake Bob's hand and thank him again... He then realizes that you are a pro and not there to take over his show but support him....
About this time I have another place I am welcome in whether I am drinking or not...

Unless it's with another guy just for a wingman, I usually go lone karaokeing.  Most times is I work an evening shift so I can head to a bar and end up usually seeing another crowd of regulars.  Still I hover around tables going to different groups, if I'm not playing NTN trivia.

Man, I can't stand going out to a bar with a date/wife with me.....I want to go alone when I go......Same for her if she decides to go, don't drag me along, just go.

I can't have any fun with a date/wife in a bar....They end up watching/listening to everything I say/do and get all hissy about it...Or I end up punching some jerk cause he just has to insult my date/wife or me....Been there, done that too many times.

I would much rather walk in alone and then mix around as I please....That is my chance to renew old friendships, gossip, hug n squeeze, and tell lies....and maybe finally get a chance at someone I wanted for years......

That's just the way it is with me and I ain't gonna change....To me a bar is open ground where the rules and all relationships are checked at the door when I enter.

I guess I feel a little differently than most here.  I usually go out to sing by myself, but only because my wife doesn't want to go and it's usually a late-night, last-minute decision so there's no time to invite friends.  Being alone fellates donkey dong.  When I'm up there actually singing it's no problem, but the 30 to 60 minute waits between songs can be pretty rough.  The fact that I don't drink doesn't help.   It's not that I feel awkward being by myself; it's just not as much fun.

Preditor, I take the same approach as Babs does.  If I see someone come in for karaoke, and they're alone I talk to them when them come and sing.  I introduce them to the regulars and by the end of the night the new-comer is a part of the crowd.  It may not happen on the first night but if you go regularly, or at least go the karaoke show more than once you shouldn't have a problem.

I feel it's much easier to meet new people at karaoke.  When I first moved here just over two years ago  I didn't know anyone but my husband.  Then I went to karaoke, alone.  Wasn't long before I met people.  People tend to feel self conscious when they go out alone, when really, the only people who think you may be construed as a loner is you.  That's how I felt when I did.  I got over that really quick.  I hope you do too! :)

SO...would it seem weird to just go out by myself? I can stand seeing movies by myself, but not going Out to eat bymyself.

Sure,  I'm slow,  but does anyone else see irony in this ?  Darwin would have an answer for this ! LOL

Yeah, the only problem too is that I am 23 and typically...most Karaoke singers are in their mid 30s to 40s it seems like...thats what puts me off a little...

Maybe Ill try tonight

I would not worry about your age,
where I go most of our singers are under the age of 30,
I think that it depends on if you find a place that repects all singers young and old
you should not worry about going alone.
also sometimes it is easier for  regs to approach just one singer that is new.
I go alone on my weds just cuz I enjoy going once a week.sometimes I get my  honey to go but it depends. just have fun no matter if it feels weird ,you can always try somewhere else.
