I agree Lonman, but some people believe that everything's in a name. Fact is, as you stated, you can make your own Monster cables, at a fraction of the cost, with the same if not better quality.

I am not trying to ruffle any feathers...I just think people are very imperialistic when it comes to their own gear. Being a guitar player, I know for an absolute fact that PRICE does not mean quality. A lot of times just because something IS super high quality doesn't justify the jump in price either...People are very loyal to certain brands because of their previous glory in the music world...but the fact is, many of them are just riding the wave of that previous glory without really delivering the traditional quality. Many companies from the orient have been making stuff just as good if not better for less money since the 70's.
A. Some people are audiophiles and 99.9% of people are not. Unless you are getting paid Rolling Stones type cash for a gig, it is not worth paying any more for things that will not noticibly change your sound quality...and by noticibly, I mean most people you are putting on a show for can notice. I paid $40 a pop for 25' speaker cables. By no means are they "crap".
B. I expect to bring in anywhere from 150-200 a night working bars in my area for a 4-5 hour show. A little more for private parties. I think my investment so far is right in line with what I will be getting in return. But then again, I am the type of guy who would take my mustang GT out ($13,000 used) and throw $5,000 in superchargers, parts, etc and put spankings on yuppie small dicks with $70,000 Porsches and BMWs that their daddy bought 'em. I know what bang for the buck is all about...
C. If you are putting on a great show, getting a lot of people involved, recruiting a lot of "virgin" karaoke singers to the cause, you shouldn't have to "rely" so much on your rep as an audiophile with so and so high end equipment. The club that I am working at has the oldest junk around, but people still come to our show in growing numbers. They are using some old JVC 6 disk changer system that is constantly getting jammed or the single tray will lose its disk holder inside the machine... It has to be at least 10 years old or more...then they have a Carvin 1000 amp that is probably 20 years old. One side of the amp is blown out...it overheats and starts getting weak and cutting out towards the end of the night...Some Zoom effects that sound like junk that are also probably 15 or 20 years old. No compressor/gate, junk mics that are falling apart. The mixer that they have is an old Rolls that was pretty good in its time, but has seen better days...one of the mic channels is just busted. No sound. I have been making due with this crap.....And our crowd doesn't seem to notice or care too much...
...Seems that some KJs are catering to the 5% of patrons who act like they are the next big thing, who expect you to make them sound like Mariah Carey in case some record exec happens to drop by your dive bar to discover them....and forgetting that Karaoke is for FUN...and for PROFIT for the venues that you are working.

Not to argue or anything, but if you check that link, like 5 of 7 reviews compared them to the shures. They may be a little bit different, but the general opinion I have seen is that they may not hold up as long, but they can sound just as good.
To me, considering they will be used by a bunch of drunk azz clowns who have little to no respect for other people's property...they work out perfectly....good sound at a disposable price. :oh yeah:

But if they don't last, why bother? I have 3 SM58's that have been dropped, swung, flung & a couple other things that have been working just as good as they were when I bought them in '94. Spend $50 on 3 mics that have admittedly not as reliable as a Shure (1 person here said his broke after 1 drop). If they need to be replaced often, i'll stick with the mic that I know is a proven performer.

DJ Frank - I agree with you in the respect that being a KJ is a business and you have to purchase accordingly. I am by no means a NAME GUY when it comes to equipment . There are some guys that feel the need to spend $50k on there sound system. I guess if your running sound for the Rolling Stones its justified but if your just running sound for a local karaoke show that brings in $200 TOPS!!! a night
The cost to profit ratio does not justify a huge expensive sound system.
But it all depends on you business plan and future aspirations.
I've used equipment from VOCOPRO / BEHRINGER / YAMAHA / MACKIE / PEAVEY /SHURE ETC.
Sometimes you get what you pay for sometimes you don't........

I agree with ya for the most part...but that was really the only guy that I heard from who said his broke after one drop...I have also read reviews from a guy who does sound for a metal band and they treat them like piss and they still work after a few years of abuse... I figure that I get three samsons for the price of 1/2 of a shure...It will take a lot of samsons to break for me to lose money on the deal...ya know?

What is your problem? I get harped on all the time because i'm negative. Incorrect, I am insightful and offer my opinion. What am I advertising false? You are the only person that had questioned what type of equipment I am using. My customers seem to be completly happy with the service I offer. I worked 302 days in 2005, how many did you work with you advanced karaoke system running Winamp?
It's people like you running crap systems with a so great attitude that think you are so better than everyone else that has deminished karaoke as we know it. Just what the karaoke industry needs another butt KJ.
Most of the time this web site is barely worth my time. Keep dreaming, I'll enjoy my 6 digit income this year.

Here is a quote from your site:
"I believe that a great attitude and superior organizational skills along with my knowledge and use of technology, will make any event of yours large or small spectacular!"
I guess we just got a taste of your attitude, huh?

WTF Tigrr? Why are you calling me that now? Do you have a personal issue with me? Say what you want, but I find that kind of sucks that you so blatantly call me that. I'm disappointed.

I was simply responding to your comment about you had found a bigger one than you (which has been edited out now) so take it as you will... my post was merely in jest that went along with your comment to lyquiddye... nothing more nothing less but in the end I really don't care... if i had a personal issue with you I would have no problem stating it...
