I am thinking of buying a karaoke player but have concerns. I plan to spend about $50.00. Will the lyrics on the TV screen be large enough for me to see them when I am sitting back from the TV at a normal TV viewing distance?
Will the music come out thru the TV sound system or thru the karoake player? I want it to come out thru the tV so I can control it with the TV remote control. I plan on doing a lot of sitting down.
Will the microphone cut off the singer completely when I sing into it?
Will the music still be loud enough for me to hear it when the mic cuts out the singer on the CD?
Will the player play the type of CD that has the singer with the music but will cut out the singer when I sing into the mic?
I plan to use the TV entirely, so I do not need a monitor screen on the player, right?
thanks

You want all that for less than $50??????????????????????
"Will the lyrics on the TV screen be large enough for me to see them when I am sitting back from the TV at a normal TV viewing distance?"
- Depends on the manufacturer and the size of the TV, and your own peepers! Most are just fine.
"Will the music come out thru the TV sound system or thru the karoake player? I want it to come out thru the tV so I can control it with the TV remote control. I plan on doing a lot of sitting down."
- Players have an audio left and right OUT as well as the yellow VIDEO out... so if you're hooking it up to the TV if it's got that kinda hookup, or you'd have to hook up through a RF Modulator to convert the signal to a COAX in (Cable).
"Will the microphone cut off the singer completely when I sing into it?"
- Depending on the karaoke music you have, it's usually not "mulitplex" with a vocal singer, unless you're getting the VCDs. Then you have to have a more complex player that has "left channel, right channel, stereo channel (both)", unless your TV has such a system. You didn't say what you're hooking it all up to, ya know!
"Will the music still be loud enough for me to hear it when the mic cuts out the singer on the CD?"
- Hey, you tell us! ! the majority of the cdg market and vcd market is the music sounds are pretty good. OFFBRANDS are where the grey areas creep in!
"Will the player play the type of CD that has the singer with the music but will cut out the singer when I sing into the mic?"
- Um, you're getting more and more vague as the questions go on. WHAT player are you looking for? What kinda music are you looking to get?

Slowstick:
Most players you buy will hook up directly to your home TV, so if you can read the print on commercials from your couch then you should be able to read the CDG words. I hope you are not under the assumption that you throw a normal audio CD into your player and magically get the words on your screen with a karaoke player. Karaoke CDGs (CD + Graphics discs) are a totally different animal from normal CDs. They cost between about $3-22 each for about 10-15 songs depending on the quality and you buy them from karaoke stores or websites. And there will typically be absolutely no singer on the disc, just the music and possibly background vocals like harmonies.
Alot of players do have the ability to sorta cancel out the singer from a normal CD. What they really do, though, is just drastically cut the midrange, which is the audio range where teh human voice appears. I promise you this function will dissapoint, though, because if you cut the midrange for the voice component, you are also cutting the midrange of the music, so the music quality goes down and also the voice does not totally dissapear, it just kinda sounds muted. And, of course, no on-screen lyrics from a normal CD.
Unless you buy an all-in-one karaoke system that has its own speakers built in (which you are not going to be able to get for $50), then the music from you player will be coming from the speakers on you TV.
Here's about the CHEAPEST player I could find at $60. This will work for you but it is about the lowest quality out there....
http://www.prosing.com/display.asp?OrderNo=PLSCPKPS
All you would need to buy would be microphones and CDGs of the music you want to sing!!
Hope that all helps...

...I actually saw that one at the Wal Mart site when I was looking, but it doesn't have a video-out, so no on-screen lyrics with that one!!
But really, slowstick, point being is that all you get for $50 is a toy, not a real karaoke machine

Let me allay your concerns. WAIT til you have more money.
Why not just join one of the online karaoke venues and use your computer ? Get a cheap computer microphone, and join the site that has a banner up top where you can sing to any number of soundchoice songs, even record your singing, and the lyric's will appear on your monitor.. I can understand and empathize with not having money to spend. But sometimes it pay's to wait til you have abit more to spend... This is one of those times in your case IMHO
For $50 I haven't a clue what you are planning on buying, or what you believe is on the market that would be much more than a cassette tape player with an attached toy microphone with a few children's songs on a tape. or did you find something comparable to a GPX DVD/CD/MP-3 player with a remote on special ? Even-so, a cheap DVD player doesn't come with a microphone.

This particular unit comes with one microphone I believe, however I saw nothing about a remote in the spec's. Assuming his television has A/V inputs that unit would work at a max distance of 8 feet.
Look at this unit;

You even get a gendre changing button

Quote: is the pay good for the kind of research you do? Like most research, I have to pay. I just do it because of the way it makes me feel, When I get involved in a task I find stimulating, I usually get something out of it. Quote: You just might have to fill me in on that stuff Steven.
First I need to get over my shyness.. It's been years since I held my component, I don't even know if I remember how to turn the thing on. If it's mechanically sound It should crank right up, and it'll put out nicely still.. I'll try to locate mine later, get my magnifying glasses, and try to tweak it abit...
