I listened to those U-best cdgs and they are horrible... i love to sing but bearly could with them... uhhg! Needless to say i didn't buy them.
So now i ask you.. hows the quality on Pop Hits Monthly? Actually if you don't mind... can you give me your opinion on all the major brands... So far i'm happy with my sound choice and chartbusters.. but any opinion will help...

I generaly keep up to date with the pop hits monthly cdg's they are pretty good to great quality.

for sound quality
sound choice is the best for rock & R&B
Chartbusters is best for country & western.
Music Maestro is not a quality product, but they do have their moments.

Chartbusters have a big problem with mastering, they have a lot of graphical errors that have to be corrected in the player hardware. Where pop hit monthlys have very clean graphics.

Sound choice chooses a poor quality media, and their labels wear through easily, rendering errors in the graphics. Look through the sound choice cdg's sometimes, you can see holes through the labels.  This renders the errors in their graphics. because of thin labels, and thin cd's

PHM is pretty good... and I consider THM to be either AS good, or just a bit below them... but since they put out their format in one I want (windows cdg - mp3+G), and you get two other discs for the same price as the full monthly lineup (and THM still puts out ROCK discs as opposed to the combo pop/rock "contemporary" disc that PHM does), then I'll stick with THM... been doing this since Jan 2004.

The quality of the PHM and THM discs are very good. The problem I have with them is that on the typical 10-12 song disc, you'll only have 1 song, 2 if you are lucky, that you will even have heard of 4-5 months down the road. That means that you are paying about $14-16 to add 1-2 songs to your library that anyone will ever sing.

For the reason above, I just wait patiently and buy all of the year-end compilation discs at the end of each year. This usually runs me about $200 (less than you pay for a year's worth of PHM or THM in only one genre!!) and I get the BIGGEST hits from all genres on about 10-15 discs.

Then, of course, I buy the occational disc during the year when I get requests from my singers or if there is a particularly big hit that I know I'm gonna need!!

I probably spend about $350 a year on discs using this meathod and get pretty much everything everyone wants in a pretty timely manner.

Only thing with THM & PHM is that you aren't going to get anything older than around '96 - don't know if that's going to be an issue, as far as quality, they are generally pretty decent - sometimes they sound a little "synthetic" to me.  I have my fill of them, many have been repleaced by Sound Choice however.  
Sound Choice generally has the best renditions overall & the media problem mentioned earlier was mostly on the original discs, the newer discs & new productions of the older discs have a protective coating on the label side.
Chartbuster great for country, not much else.
Music Maestro I hold my nose to - but then some love them for whatever reason  :whistle:
The first 3 are the primary brands I try to stick with, anything other is really VERY hit/miss if you're lucky.

actually Lonnie, that's not quite true.

THM has several misc discs that they package with no known rhyme or reason with their 'six packs'... you get your four monthly discs (which I don't even include the urban on my listing), and two misc discs. Platinum Artist series, Platinum Plus, 70's 80's, Best of Pop, Country, Rock, Duets, Weddings, etc. etc. etc.

and those go back beyond the 1996 beginning. Not with TONS of consistancy, mind you, and they are looking into going further back...

Available by six DISCs for $50 each set, or one disc of mp3gs (wincdg or cavs format, you DO have to specify it) for $34. (on the monthly discs and the platinum plus, you won't get the vocal demo tracks in this format).

Do the error in the graphis look like a bunch of confetti was tossed on the tv screen?

Wow -I always wondered what that was - I had this happen when I used a CDG player. Yes my discs were old. Don't have that problem now because the discs are only used once to download to pc.  i thought maybe my player was going bad, but it only happened with certain discs, always sound choice.

Thanks for the reminder, I completely forgot they started doing that.  I don't buy anything other than the new music from them.

Yep, that's the culprit Babs! It can happen with any disc, especially if it's copied poorly (too fast a ripping process usually), but you're right that it does seem to affect SC's older discs MUCH more than other brands... maybe because they're being PLAYED more often than other brands??

And of course it all shows on how well you take care of your discs. My ex-parnter Dave's old Pioneers look like he took a buffer machine to them! ! But Lonman's discs are all in their original jewel cases (ore good replacement ones)... a competitor friend of mine named RC here in Portland has discs that are way older than mine, and he's managed to do a real good job taking care of them. I know Timberlea really is proud of his older discs still being in excellent condition. The fact though, is these guys are professionals, and protected their investments from the beginning. Back when the discs were also MUCH more expensive... so the incentive to take CARE of them is there from the getigo! ! Try explaining a $79 loss when your SC disc bites the big one! Ummm, no thank you!

I won't use anything but the jewel cases - anything else has more damage risk be it binders or the speed racks or ??.  
I may be going to the slimline jewel cases though, same protection, but 2 discs will fit in the space of 1.  I only have 960 cdg's, but that's alot of space.  I can go with the slimline & a 500 capacity case & hold 1,000 discs sitting on the counter.
