I have bought a karaoke cd from the US and would like to remove the vocals on it to use as a backing track. Can anyone recommend some pc software that will do this, free if possible?

Most likely you are refering to a multiplex karaoke disk. to remove the vocals, you simply turn your balance control either full right, or full left to cancel the vocals.

Dr. D, I think he's talking about the background vocalists!

the files are VOB what ever they are. Its a video karaoke with lead vocal on it. I would just like the audio but without the singer. Any ideas?

sounds like a standard video cd.

Dr. D's response is dead on... vocal is on one channel, where the music is on the other.

The disc is most likely a multiplex format karaoke vcd. It will play normaly on a cd rom or any vcd player. In a pc you can remove the vocal if you plaly it ia any software that have a karaoke funtion; I use XingMPEG  Player. There are many software based players that will do it. If you dont have those player then do what Dr D said.
