Babs, good idea. I am from San Diego originally, but now I live in Alabama.  What about you?

Great spidey dance!!  :dancin:

I hate that song "Grandpa", blah!!  They sing it way too much here.

Hi Sue - I'm in the North western suburbs of Chicago. How's the weather there? We are buried in snow right now.

Funny thing I joined the forum not to long ago. I was posting and ran into another KJ I know well that works in the bar about a mile from mine. Small world.

I love a forum set up - you get to meet people from all over the world.

We are so close to a time of renaissance and rebirth in science and technology, the good old days aren't quite here yet. When we will play light harps by brushing our fingers in the air, and holographic images will pulse in liquid color to new forms of music, voices that due to genetic engineering will soar and sing angelic.

In Virtual Reality we will choose our Avatars, in dress and look, and you will stand on a 3d stage, as a supercomputer interface engine pumps out real time VR with retinal projection and sound connected - hardwired directly by sensors on the temple of the head to your brain. Where enhanced flows of filtered current will pass through the hypothalamus releasing endorphins as electronics symphonies yet unborn are played without hands and songs are sung without voices.

This is the world coming, should we not destroy ourselves by extending  our interference so solidly in our world. The effect on music will be as great a jump as that of techno, only this will be in truly living color - sound and color and VR.

What will the people of that time be like? Surely in the Outlands there will be elders who still on moonlight nights sit on a stump and play songs over a hundred years old, refusing to take the "option" of extending their lives another century.

There will always be music. And even as the dolphins sing in bursts of information that are thousands of times ours, as around us a hundred species talk in languages we cannot understand and much more sing and greet each dawn, we will watch each generation briefly write its epic of what occurred in its brief span and then fade into dust.

Just as the generals of ancient wars are now gone and mostly forgotten, so most songs will slip into the oblivion of the main Wave core, where small groups will listen and marvel at how primitive things were before ThinkSpeak and visual sound.

I plan to be there, but will always have a nostalgic place in my heart for the endless births and deaths of creation and music. The good old days - these will be them.. soon enough.

And what will make successes, great singers, those who will be remembered?

As Calvin Coolidge wrote: "Press on.  Nothing can take the place of persistence.  Talent will not; the world is full of unsuccessful people with talent.  Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.  Education alone will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.  Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

Remember years ago (60's) there was anticipation that "not too far down the road" will be holographic 3-D television. It will resemble a bell jar, and the viewer will be able to view a scene from any given point 360 degree's around the circumference ?

Well.  I'm still waiting.

Oh yeah,  the 60's are long past.  That type "state of the art" technology it turned out could be dangerous  LOL;  Almost seems as though some of that technology really existed in "The good 'ol Days" JVJ.  Seemed life was quite surrealistic, and magic was more than illusion in "The good 'ol days"

Let's look forward to the 2060's hey. It is unlikely this will effect SS any time soon, but here is a peek for you of what IS happening.

Enjoy.

Thanks.   I'm glancing over it now.

Speaking of "Good old" technology, You do know that after a 15 year break, Mellotron went back into production in 1999 ?    The canadian company was carrying replacement parts, yet decided to put their analog machines back into production. Such as the Pinder model, etc. This past year (30th anniversary of the last B-3 in production), Hammond went back into production with a digital B-3 replicating the original.  Size, look, etc.  my own (1975) can be a problem of course because finding an affordable tech that makes housecalls, and finding certain replacement parts, (not to mention difficulty installing them), get's rediculously costly... (not exactly the type of thing a person can throw in the back of their car and drive to the local music store for basic repairs)

Now this is truly interesting. I believe the first commercial big song for the Mellotron was LSD. (Lucy) I find it exciting at the possibility of the expansion of the musical into media - just as the the video -

Yet you do have me on one thing. The "60s and 70s" and then the techno "80s" have yet to be matched by anything that's been done for 20 years. There are some good musicians out there, but many more thrash guitarists and thump thump thump drums.

Vocally, although things are getting much cleaner, we are moving to the age of the vocal clones, where it is very difficult to get excited about a singer who sounds like a thousand others. There was a raw unique and creativeness in past artists which is sometimes rare in these days.

As the ghetos and suburbia and big cities have become asphalt jungles which breed music which depicts cop killing, total "hoedom" of females, and a depersonalization of sex and even marriage - all this carries over into the music. Where is daddy these days? Or when there are two daddies or two mommies who are reaching towards the Z generation. What are these kids going to be like? Are we at Clockwork Orange?

The good old days. Well, honestly while some real good old music was being played, black people were fighting to win their rights and freedom and you sure don't hear much of those kind of songs played in Karaoke.

All music has emotion. If it is road rage and the glorification of of prostitution, gangs, and street drugs - it is still music. Just a far cry from "I want to hold your hand" or "Blue Moon."

Well, It seems that alot of energy is put into new technology recreating the older technology depending on music genre. IMHO it's questionable as to how much technological advancement even matters at all for we blues, and R&B players. Those of us that love classic ballad and classic rock *TO ME* (and I must preface that)- "state of the art" technology is behind us, again to me, some of the older technology sounded ALOT better than what a person can affordably purchase today. There was just some great analog equipment made in the 60's, but of course I'm biased, how can I not be ?

This is a subjective area. Seems alot of advancement, and even newer digital equip is trying to sample older prototypes.  Sort've a back to the future even with newer digital. Samples (again to me) sound best on a tape loop device such as an older analog Mellotron, sure digital recreates some nice samples..I own alot of digital synth equip. Yet this all get's subjective as to individual preference, there are pro's and con's to each. While it's arguable if a digital instrument such as one of my synths can do a better Hammond B-3 than my Hammond B-3, the answer is sometimes it can. Digital samples still can't seem to recreate certain random nuances of the actual instrument, and sound.. decay rate varies, as does attack and a few other intricacies. Yet it's easier to get a great digital B-3 sound, Reason being, the secret to the sound of the actual B-3 is Leslie placement, condition of equipment and room setup. The Leslie requires a placement that will optimally throw and bounce it's sound. To just arbitrarily drop a poorly maintained Leslie speaker anyplace, doesn't sound good at all.. However the Korg X-3 (which isn't even a newer synth by any means) offers great sounding tonewheel, and Hammond sounds. Placement of a bulky spinning horn setup that works on a Doppler principle is no longer crucial.  Setup was never easy in the old days..  Often an optimal setup couldn't be achieved

Look at the popular preset selections you have with alot of samplers. The hybrid, and tranny amps offering "guitar amp settings", as well as active electronics samples of "guitar sounds" on other equip.. On hybrid, and tranny equip today, people are often trying to emulate older technology.. Naturally to get the Marshall Plexi, JCM-800, Mesa, Twin, Soldano, 2X12, 4X12 cab sounds on ONE amp is a plus...Yet to me, it's still a facsimile of certain popular characteristics.. I suppose I'm the type that would rather play the B-3 (if given the opportunity) and not the device emulating it..Yet sure,  I'll settle in many cases, portability is crucial, no question !!   In some genre's I suppose, things sounded great 40 years ago without the advent of "high tech"...
JMO...

For certain music, and features my Scott 222-D amp with two speakers, sounds MUCH better than my Denon AVR-3600DTS surround system with many speakers... Yet the Denon is designed as a multipurpose home entertainment system...Hooked up to a TV, sounds great.... For classic rock, personally, I don't think anything beats some of the older tube equipment...Just the way things are to my ears... Not saying this is fact..

A most interesting thing to me is that many bands have horrendous inner conflict between band members. Some of the greatest music in history has been performed when some of the greatest soap operas were going on behind the scenes. Lennon and McCartney fought bitterly. John always felt he had the talent and Paul always felt musically, he was far superior to John and should have the spotlight - which he later did after John's death.

Personalities, while ever so important on a fun karaoke board, matter little when you focus on the music. The music stands by itself alone, for a hundred years from now, if music is remember, very little of who sang it will be.

Hahaha, I wasn't gonna touch that one. Cause I was thinkin' that little dude looked a bit, how do I say it?........... Lonely.  They just deleted the view of his OTHER hand since this is a family site.  But now Babs has cleared up my confusion.  And, NO, I wasn't thinking anything naughty at all.
