Received 27 karaoke disks bought on Ebay. Words on screen ok but cannot find an option to hear vocals, just backing and chorus. Could it be that this is all that is available.

yes

karaoke discs USUALLY have no lead vocals... just background vocals.

What you are looking for are the "demo" vocals.

Let me guess... 27 discs? Either a Sweet Georgia Brown deal or KJ Tools or some similar pack?

The demo vocals are on the various "monthly" discs that either Top Hits Monthly or Pop Hits Monthly does. Chartbuster and SC have discs that have them as well (star series and power picks for SC)... but you MUST look at the discs on their website or on kjpro.com to verifiy that.

The SPOTLIGHT series from Sound Choice will NOT have these.

You didn't get burned... you bought something that I don't think you knew the way that they were made! Most of the ebayers are usually good about reproducting the manufacturer's statements that these are NOT original recordings and don't have the lead vocals... but you occassionally get the lazy suckers out there that don't want to put that much into their ebay ad.

Sorry!

that's what I meant by "Usually" B.Singer!

And most stuff isn't produced in Multiplex anymore. I'm hard pressed to find a brand that still does it.

Most if not all karaoke disc are multiplex in my country (VDC and now DVD). Never seen a CGD around. Wish CDG is the standard here.

Edit: bad hang over after the newyear gig LOL  LOL

Yes most English disc are multiplex and are the same version that you peep have as CDG. Talk about cdg over here and you get blank faces. All local songs are in VCD/DVD multiplex and done by the same original singer. Album come in 2 ver., cd or vcd/dvd karaoke.
