That's the way it is suppose to work Babs, you get a tip for maintaining the integrity of your show and being professional ! too bad it wasn't a $50 lol
Sometime during the course of hosting shows someone has a legitimate request to BUMP the rotation. I'll try to accomodate that once in awhile tweak of the rotation.
If I happened to get offered a TIP....I'll accept it

That's happened to me on several occasions too Babs. For the most part people can be pretty cool about it but now & then you get a real a$$hole who will try taking it to the club owner/manager to make their case. If they come to me about it I tell them it's my show and if they don't like the way I run it then they're more than welcome to find someone else to do it for them (that hasn't happened in a long time). I like to run my shows fairly and I have dozens of regulars to show they appreciate it.
As for setting out a tip jar for the most part I don't. At the private club I work on the weekends however I've had several people request I start putting one out. Some nights I get more than others but it's never been a big thing with me as I already get paid to do my job.
As an aside, the biggest tip I ever got on a regular gig night was $220. Pretty kewl huh!

Catseye- $220 your in the lead for the biggest tip. :worship:
I'm still waiting for my $5 from MrOctober. LMAO (My triple posting has stopped )
As for my bar owner - He sometimes will insist on singing 2-4 songs in a row, even on busy nights. I tried to explain the problem it causes and he says "F" them. I just announce over the mic he is the owner and everyone seems to understand the owner is the jerk not me. I even said over the mic once - He thinks he can sing every song. That shut him up for a while.

That type of thing is not a pleasant experience. A legit rotation is the best way to go.
Excuse me? You had to pay to sing and you still didn't get to sing??? That _bites_! Thank God I have never encountered any place where you had to pay to sing.

Babs, if I wasn't the one running the Karaoke at my bar I would swear we work the same venue!
I do a show 3 times a week at the same place and the bar owner will do the same thing to me! The whole 'singing several songs in a row despite it being a busy night and not caring about what I've tried to explain to him about a healthy rotation' thing.
As for tip jars, I currently don't have one up. I haven't for months. The only reason why I had one at the time was because the waitress decorated a beer pitcher for me and put it with my equipment. I don't accept bribes and if someone offers money to get bumped up I politely decline. If someone offers a tip for the simple reason of tipping I try to decline but if they keep insisting I don't want to be rude so I'll accept it.
Throughout the night I remind to tip the staff. If there isn't more than 3 people working I anounce the names of the staff members too.

Wow - it is nice to know I'm not the only one to deal with a song greedy bar owner and my first tip jar was made from a pitcher the bartender made. (small world)
I have gone as far as announcing he is the owner and please do not be angry if he sings more than once in a row. He owns the bar and we have him to thank for me being there.
This gives everyone a reason for the non-respect of rotation and lets me in a round about way let the owner know people will be angry with him not me.
I try to use the mic to my advantage as much as possible (I am evil karaoke girl LMAO )

Hmm... I was at a place earlier in the week. I left right before they started the contest (partly because I didn't want to be in the contest or wait through it, and partly because I'd just gotten over a cold and needed to rest my voice)--but during the 2 hours I was there, the KJ didn't sing a note! (He might have sung after the contest--I don't know.) I've been there before a couple of times, and I can't remember whether he sang or not when I was there before.

Babs- I do the SAME thing. Usually people know who he is but just in case I announce on the mic too that he is the owner. I'm sure, like mine, your regulars have gotten used to this and feel for you when they see the owner grab a mic.
