Just curious how others feel about the 'trend' of trying to be politically correct and go with a generic Happy Holidays in place of a good ole Merry Christmas.

I know of a couple of places that have told their employees that they are not to say 'Merry Christmas' to folks either in person or when they answer the phone, as it may offend someone.

I played at a 'Christmas' party last night, and there were several greetings of 'Merry Christmas', as well as listening to 'Christmas' music..........  but, hey, that's just me.

I don't worry too much about p.c....

If I say "Merry Christmas" and they say "I'm Jewish", I reply with Happy Yanakah!
If I say "Merry Christmas" and they say "I'm Muslim", I wish them a happy winter season to them and their family.
If I say "Merry Christmas" and they say "I'm athiest", I say "Happy whatever!"

It's the THOUGHT that counts... and most folks are decent enough to nod and thank you, even if it really doesn't apply. If they go out of their way to announce that they're not a Christian, I try to reply back with a generic comeback... but still one that's decent. If they get all uppity, I tell them "Well, UNF*** you... I was trying to be nice!"

I'm a Christian, but my opinion on this topic is:  When in doubt, just say "Have a good 'un."   LOL  :handshake:

It's Merry Christmas and In God We Trust.

If that offends anyone, then they need to move to another country before I really offend them.

I don't pay much attention to most of this anymore.  I just wish people a Merry Kwanzaa, and if it turns out they happen to be gentile,  happy christmas

From an email I was sent yesterday on a similar subject:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit our best wishes for an
environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive,
gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within
the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or
secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions
and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or
secular traditions at all

.. and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but
not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose
contributions to society have helped make Britain great, (not to imply that
Britain is necessarily greater than any other country and recognising that
the Great before Britain is a noun rather than an adjective), and without regard
to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of
computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee.

(By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is
subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no
alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to
actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void
where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the
wisher.

This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application
of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent
holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to
replacement
of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the
wisher.)

That's what I was saying earlier:  "Have a good 'un."  ;)

(Btw, if I know someone celebrates a particular holiday, I do wish them a "Merry Christmas", "Happy Hanukkah", or whatever it is that that individual celebrates.)

I thought most people who celebrated Kwanzaa were Gentile.

(Or was this a joke?  I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes, heh heh!   LOL )

Happy Holidays is my standard...

Any others don't offend me unless it is followed by an "Up Yours!" LMAO
Even then I probably deserved it!

I am glad to see others that still like the old 'Merry Christmas'.  To me, it is just getting out of hand to have so many people and places trying to be PC (politically correct).

I still remember one High School teacher (long time ago, back in the dark ages) that was Jewish.  Our classroom didnt have a Christmas Tree, but instead had a Hanukkah Bush.  The lesson was simple, allow traditions and others' beliefs, don't try and force your beliefs or traditions on others', and enjoy the best of both.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
