First off, I want to thank all ya'll for the vast abundance of info you have given me so far ... Now for my questions.
I am getting ready to purchase gear. I have already purchased a little bit of music. (Sound Choice, Foundations 1 & 2, Some top hits monthly, Sweet Georgai Brown 1-68 + Tool Kit 10 disks, and a few minor brands and some walmart disks.)
I plan on going with a computerized system, (with a simple player as a back up).
Right now, the items that I am seriously considering for purchasing are the following:
- Samson R21 Microphone 3 Pack (already purchased)
- Rack Rider Power Conditioner with light module
- Yamaha MG124FX Mixer
- Nady (not sure which model) Pro Stereo Power Amp
- One or two wireless mics for myself and my assistant (need advice on these)
- I have no idea which speakers to purchase, powered or unpowered, etc... I will be doing relatively small venues (100-200 people)
- What is a decent bang for the buck player to purchase for backup?
- Do I need to purchase another effects unit ? Or will the Yamaha mixer with FX do the trick?
Thanks in advance,
D.J.

- Samson R21 Microphone 3 Pack (already purchased) Already purchased - no comment - Rack Rider Power Conditioner with light module OK - Yamaha MG124FX Mixer OK - Nady (not sure which model) Pro Stereo Power Amp Recommend a better brand - not good choice here. Look into Carvin.com DCM series or QSC RMX series good amps for the bucks. - One or two wireless mics for myself and my assistant (need advice on these) Will let someone else advise, but I prefer Shure - I have no idea which speakers to purchase, powered or unpowered, etc... I will be doing relatively small venues (100-200 people) If you are looking at a power amp, then you don't need powered speakers. If you go powered speakers, you don't need the power amp. 100-200 people isn't relatively small, I do a club that seats 200 comfortably & run approx 3000 watts with 3 mains & 1 18" sub & it still isn't loud enough at times. Don't skimp to start out, you don't have to go all out, but don't go cheap. If you have to wait a bit to get something that you aren't going to have to replace soon, it will be worth it in the long run.
- What is a decent bang for the buck player to purchase for backup? RSQ/JVC - Do I need to purchase another effects unit ? Or will the Yamaha mixer with FX do the trick? The built in FX will get you going, put any extra money into your amp & speakers - this is where MANY fail to do. They buy cheap & small & then wonder why they don't get the sound they want or blow the speakers.
Thanks in advance,
D.J.

Thanks for the tip. I was simply looking at those amps because of the price...But I know that Carvin is good stuff. Going to try to score a CARVIN DCM 1500. $400 aint bad for a new one direct from Carvin...

Friend, you aren't going to get off cheap unless you can manage buy out someone who has a decent used system for sale cheap.
It will cost serious bucks to hit 200 people with quality sound at decent SPL's.
You simply can't cut corners with the speakers and amps and expect it to do all that.
The required bass alone will cost nearly $2000.00 to do it right. FX is cheap even if you go outboard when compared to the actual PA required to fill the venue.
In my experience, it costs 5K or more to provide quality and reliable sound in a 200 seat venue.
Rent before you buy.......Go to any reputable sound company and describe the venue. They will assemble the system you need....You haul it in and try it out, then price it.
You will discover that it will take at least 1000 watts for the mains and as much as 2000 watts for the bass to do it right.
If the gig is outdoors, then add another 50-100%.

Get yourself a new mixer (Macky, Behringer, Yamaha, all personal choice)
A JBL EON Sub G2 Powered 15" Portable Subwoofer and 2 JBL EON15 G2's
Backup Karaoke Player - Single Tray, JVC XL-SV22
Nady UH10 wireless mics
If your mixer does not have the effects, a good reverb unit and a DB 266XL compressor.
