A colt will teach people how to frolic and have fun.  A horse teachs patience and how to stick with something till the jobs done. A pup teaches what true unconditional love is. A dog teaches fidelity and allegience. A kitten teaches one how to purr and relax.  A cat teaches independence in a fair manner with all species..

I believe in the darwinian therory but I do think there was alot of divine intervention along the way...

They all are family or pack oriented and bond with everybody in the family.. They can be house broke through the bond. By letting a puppy know you are "hurt" if he does it inside teaches him to go outside and it doesnt take punishment to do it. A horse can be trained just like a cat teaches her young to hunt...

One of the miracles of life is watching a birth observing the immediate bond with the mother and in a few hours running and exploring the new world...

Milking 52 cows will teach you to join the navy and get out there...

Yep,

Like with people, punishment is not the last resort, it's the never resort.

Horses don't respond well to punishment. But they respond instantly to someone who is never threatening, yet still dominant over them.

Maybe that's why so many women are attracted to horses. They can dominate and control a huge beast with only their heart and a soft touch.

Did you know that women have far more personally owned pleasure horses than men in this country?  Yep, it's true....and I don't think that came from playing with horse dolls.

Time for a make-over. Of course I'd still end up with a sheep in my stable  :(

That's not so bad.....One thing about sheep, they have beautiful soft brown eyes...And another thing, when ever you ask"Who's Yo Daddy Baby?", they always say "Ewe!" LMAO

At least that's what I've been told

Ok Keith another lesson from the old cowboy...This comes not as a reprimand but from the heart...In another thread you were talking about exes and tnt I know it was ur humor you were talking about .. I was in a bar one night and some young wannabes wanted me to sing My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys...  I sang it but prefaced it with  this,,,, Let me tell you this there is a line in this song that talks about takin what you need from the ladies then leavin..A cowboy does not abuse his stock does abuse anybody he hires but most of all he never abuses a woman If you sit at my mothers table with your hat still on you are gonna wind up behind the barn.. You would not talk about my family mother or sisters in that fashion..There is another line about picking up hookers instead of pens... You dont pick up hookers you take them to the room, pay them as a gentleman and treat them like a lady...

I could give you any exes  or any gal I had a relationship with their email addy.. They wouldnt give me a gold star but they wouldnt have any negative comments...

I need to be careful.  Although my humor is extremely sarcastic, and I'm just being a wise-guy much of the time, my dry facetious & sophomorish inuendo often does hug "the line" of crass, and unacceptable.  I suppose it's easy to forget that on an internationally viewed venue, with viewer's of both gender's and of all ages, what appears humorous to some, can be construed by other's as being crude.

Ease up Karyoker, the gals I deal with can take up for themselves....Otherwise I wouldn't be interested in them to start with....I want a fair fight when I fight..And I like it when they advertize to the world afterwards that I am a #^$%#&^*!.....Such statements make my phone ring off the hook.

I used to wonder why gals ignored "nice" guys and dated only bad guys that would break their heart.....I stopped wondering about that long ago....It breaks their heart whenever they finally realize I ain't gonna change....So that makes me a ^*#$@ to them.....Heh, heh. As long as my Momma thinks I'm sweet, the rest can complain all they want.

Let's get back to important stuff-Horses!...We can always discuss women once we exhaust fishing, horses, sports, music and small blocks.

Been working steady with the appaloosa last three days...It's unbelievable how far along he is.....The guy will actually stick his head in the halter now! We work with him 3-4 times a day and each time remove the halter when finished....Now he approaches us as soon as he spies us and stands as we fiddle with the halter. Once he sees it's ready, he lowers his head for it. We left an old saddle blanket hanging on the pin rails and later looked out to see him tossing it in the air and playing with it....Now he doesn't flinch when you wave it in his face....He's going to be bombproof!

Tonight as it was getting dark and he knew the lesson was over, he eased up behind me and rested his head on my shoulder, the full weight of it.....I thought that was pretty cool for fresh broke horse. When I leaned back into him he stepped back rather than resist....This guy is going to be too easy.....In fact my buddy named him "Easy" today.

I'm kinda wishing I had bought him for me now.

:(

I won't pussyfoot around being as careful anymore.

Karyoker,

After watching him play with the blanket the night before, we decided to strap the halter and lead rope next to the blanket on the pen rails last night.....This morning, the halter and lead was soaking wet from him mouthing and sucking on them thru the night....In his mind now, those things are now part of him. He WANTS to wear them.

I think I'll try that trick on my next wife with a pair of thongs maybe. LMAO

No!, not thongs, an apron! LOL

He's now on 4 qts/day of Nutrina 14% Vitality with a lite mix of racing oats and 12 Lbs of Coastal Bermuda hay/day....You can tell that sucker was pasture sour and never had steady feed or quality graze....I saw the pasture he came out of and I wasn't impressed....He had been there his whole life (5 years) and if supplied feed, had to fight 8 other more dominate horses for it.

He's got long chipped feet and needs a ferrier badly. He's also mouth sore and needs floating....I'll spring for a house call this time cause he needs his feet squared and mouth soothed before my buddy can get farther along in his training...I noticed tonight that he was head shying at some halter motions and not stepping balanced...He's also spilling his feed out of his lips...He finally let me take a good look and he has full upper canines so I upped his age to 5 maybe 6 and then noticed he fersure has hooks and needs floated. His tongue and cheeks are raw from the adult molars being too long and sharp edged. Yeah he's begging for a dental appointment(80 bucks) and a ferrier(50 bucks)....I almost feel guilty for giving him so much quality feed cause I know it hurts him to eat it....I try to help by soaking it in water to soften it first....I'll get the vet out next week providing he ain't doing Christmas vacation. The ferrier is always available.

Can you believe he spit out a carrot and then an apple slice?.....I chopped them up small and mixed them in with his feed and now he lips my hand for them....That sucker had never had his first apple or carrot!

Karyoker, I ain't never feel in love with a horse like I have this one. He is colered so ugly, but is so sweet.....I love the way he will ease up and rest his head on my shoulder and blow softly....He kinda sighs as he rest the weight of his head on my shoulder.

I'm gonna get a measurement on him soon and take some pics for you. He has to be at least 16 hands.

Nope, Nutrina Vitality 14% is already laced with plenty of molasses and added minerals.....I'll get the name off the bag of oats for you tomorrow in the daylight. He has a small mineral salt lick in his stall, but I don't think he has discovered it yet.

I gotta go, our local red neck joint is holding their Christmas party tonight. I've been promised a full nite of two stepping, so I don't want to miss it. Yeah, I have to work tomorrow but I will make it somehow.

I have a room mate staying with me . His home was destroyed in New Orleans. He is Italian and works with me now at my federal job. He ain't never stood next to a horse till recently and he ain't never eaten like we here eat, but so far he is loving it....tonight he is going to learn to two step....He is already dressed and rearing to go, so I better get along.

Karyoker,

I took some pics of the apallosa today while my buddy was doing some ground work with him. Then I eased out and played nice guy with him. He layed all over me and finally found the apple slices I had hidden in my pockets. He was so cute pawing the ground and nudging at me for the apple pieces....Yeah, he's ruined now.

I'll post the pics as soon as I can get them in the computer.

here's a trick question for you, karyoker.....do you know what it is that makes a horse start growing his "winter coat"?  (hint -  it's got nothing to do with temperature)
