anyone ever try to just start the crowd with "Fly Me To The Moon"?  odd that a slow song would pump things up, but the my folks love it.

Knight show-  "Tequila" (the song) was a big hit! I can't believe a song with virtually no words is a karaoke song. I asked over the mic for people who have never sung karaoke before to raize their hands. Then I picked a couple girls out and brought them up on stage. I explained all they would have to do is yell tequila. I told the bar it wouldn't work unless everyone played along and that we need to help out these girls that were up there for the first time.

It was great!  Even the bartenders were yelling Tequila.

Thumbs up Knight show  :worship:

I thought of another song that's good  "The rodeo song"

More great ideas and songs from all.

Kinda also depends on the crowd, as the gig we had last night was strictly an older crowd at a private venue.

A couple more we have done that went over were It's 5 O'clock Somewhere, Cha Cha Slide, and most of our others have been mentioned above.  After reading this, I have a couple more ideas, thanks.

Friends in low places and mony mony both work, I know they were mentioned already, so how about war pigs by black sabbath. The kj where I go also does a kicka$$ job on ramble on by zepplin. If al else fails and youi don't mind doing a "dirty" song, go for NIN closer.

I'm not a KJ, just someone who likes to go karaoke-ing a few nights a week--but I agree with you about "Redneck Woman".  I am sooooooooooooo tired of hearing that song.  That and "Picture" and "Wanted Dead or Alive".  As for me, I have a tendency to pick more off-the-beaten-path songs like "Mambo Italiano" (Rosemary Clooney), "Thunder & Lightning" (Chi Coltrane), or "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" (Sugarloaf).  And I also have a tendency to dance a lot when singing them.   :dancin:

I know I didn't give a whole lot of suggestions here, but I am so NOT an expert!  I'm still new at this karaoke-singing--I've only been doing it since Aug.  *kicking myself for not doing it 10 years ago when I was taking voice lessons--oh well, better late than never*

Okay Timbo opened a box of worms

Dirty songs - "Blow me" cracks me up and "when I get high" seems to get the crowd spirited

It sure is!  The first time I did it (at the bowling alley where I usually go for karaoke), the kj said, "This is a song I didn't even know we had!"  And I was thinking, "Yesssssssssssss!  At least I know no one else has sung this, and so people aren't getting tired of it!"   LOL

Melly, you mentioned "Let Me Entertain You".  That would be fun!  I'd need to hear it a few more times, though, so I can remember how the whole melody goes.  (I remember part of it.)  I can read music--I've been playing the piano for most of my life--but of course,  in karaoke, they only give you the words!  :)

For me, Nelly's "Hot in Herre" always goes over well, as does Cheap Trick "I Want You To Want Me"

Here's a few I've noticed get's the crowd going... (hopefully I don't repeat any)

Characteristics of songs that do this- upbeat, something people would participate in (sing along or dance), fairly popular

Earth, Wind and Fire - September
Englebert Humperdinck -  Delilah -- usually accompanied by cussing
AC/DC - You shook me all night long, Have a drink on me - I do AC/DC which not many people do and I typically get the crowd going (I usually get high-5's, some rockers even try to sing with me & sometimes I get requests -- not bragging)
Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to love (especially if they do it like Jim Cary in Cableguy)
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Kool and the Gang - Ladies Night (don't think I've heard anybody do this though)
Billy Idol - Mony Mony, White Wedding
Usher - You make me wanna, Yeah!
50 cent (?) - It's getting hot in here (I know mentioned already)

Most of the country songs mentioned above.

Can't think of any more

Bathroom Break and Songs People are tired of hearing..(I'm sure I'll get some flames on this one)
Black Velvet
Day the music died (uhg!)
Celeine dion songs
son of a preacher man
most standards, elvis, sinatra - unless the singer is really good (then crowd goes nuts)

Hmmmm...I've sung "Black Velvet" once and it went over well...I was wanting to sing it again sometime.  (I have never heard anyone else do it.)  I've heard a few people do "Son of a Preacher Man" and I was wanting to do that sometime also.  I like doing standards once in a while too.  Some of those songs that are just labeled "standards", or "Christmas", I wish to heck I knew what key they were in, so I can figure out what the highest note is and what the lowest note is and if I can do the song justice in that key!

Oh, BTW, someone mentioned Celine Dion songs--that reminds me of a good story:

I was at a club once where this girl was singing Celine's version of "All By Myself".  I overheard some guys at the next table talking about the original version of the song, by Eric Carmen.  Then one guy started demonstrating what the song would sound like if it had been recorded by Eric CARTMAN!   LOL  I'm not into "South Park", but I thought that was pretty funny!  (I don't think the girl on stage heard what was going on--they weren't really that loud; I could hear 'em because I was at the next table.

Tonight I sang jump, jive n wail by the brian setzer orchestra, a lot of folks hit the dance floor for it. I think it might qualify for a crowdpleaser.  Just a thought
