You need a RCA to VGA adaptor

My Kj buddy just bought 2  here in co I think he paid about $160

Matt is right about the converter   I would like to have an lcd for the stage monitor I'm tired of hauling my 13" as well . I run snake to the stage and could convert rca or raw NSTC video to vga just wondering how many are using lcd for stage monitor? The 17" here at Wallmart are less than $200....

Also I have been at venues that have the monitors on the floor hidden from the audience my customers here will not accept that they want it on a stand..... any opinions on this?

I have been seriously thinking about moving to LCD based screen of some sort. I have some a bit of research and it's not going to be easy. First of all, the LCD computer screen lacks the tuners inside to display any RCA based composite video signal. There may be a converter that you can buy but the ones that seems relilable goes for over $100.

So, the second choice I have is to go with the LCD or Plasma TV in 13" to 17" range. They do have tuner built in and usually have RCA or S-Video input to them. So, I am shopping around for the best value on these. There seems to be small delta on $ between the computer screen and TV. Maybe I can find a good bargain soon, preferable on a 15" one.

As for mounting, I found this mount on the web. It is for the ceiling mount but I maybe able to mount to a wooden base of some sort and set it on the base and mount the screen to the other end. I didn't see anything else that came close other than pole mountable rack for LCD screens/tvs. That one I would have to make my own pole so it's not as easy.

If someone has an elegant solution to this, I would love to hear about it as well.

yes one dude here made a box for his 13 inch TV and covered it with black felt. it looks great looks just like another monitor from the crowd view.
It's angled up same as a monitor.
I would like to have one of these for my solo show that I do but I dont think the "Word Readers" would like it being on the floor for my Karaoke shows.[/quote[/quote]

Once you go there, click the "flash" link, and you'll get this link.

http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/videoware/xvga.swf

shows you pretty clearly the ins and the outs.

I have not tried this, but have considered the idea of getting one of those $200 Wal Mart flat TVs, and mounting it onto a good sheet music stand.

I checked this out and the unit costs over $100. Also, there is only 3 resolution control it seems, 1 non-standard (600x480? they must mean 640x480 and it's typo)and 2 standard resolutions. As you may know, computer screen's native resolution varies as per computer screen size. For example, 17" native resolution is 1280x1024. For 15" it's 1024x768. So you are stuck with at maximum 15" native resolution.  If you display signal is not native to the screen, it looks horrible. The text looks like it's been pixelated and distorted.

The LCD/Plasma TV has resolution compensation built in. The image looks decent no matter what the source. Not as crisp as the native resolution on computer screen but it's better than non native resolution.

I think I will pay about $20 to $40 more for a LCD TV rather than buy that converter and buy a cheaper PC screen. Personal choice.

Thanks for the info BTW.

With the price of lcd's dropping like they are  at Walmart it's getting more and more tempting.... I use a 17" lcd for the comp monitor and it is an impressive looking setup... :)

You mean with another person in the same room ?  Do people still do that ?  Seems that having two computers, and two people in one bed can get pretty cluttered.

<shrug>   Not sure.  I've heard some crazy stories about what the kid's under 40 do.  Yet personally,  I'm not so sure it's really true.
