The death of Christmas started long before Bush got into the White House.

Hi Suzanne,
OK, if we are all going to be all so sensitive, then lets do it...
No more Columbus Day, very very insulting to all Native Americans as Columbus enslaved and murdered Indians.
No more Valentines Day, as India people are very offended by this, that we should have only one day of the year to honor love
No more Easter, and no Easter Bunny, that's another of those bad Christian days, that needs to be converted to the Holiday Bunny as well...have a Holiday Egg hunt...
No more Washington's Birthday or July 4th, cause these insult the English whom we revolted against...
No more Memorial Day (change to Beginning of Summer day) cause all the people who are against War are insulted that its participants should be revered and honored and that's a bad influence on our children....
No more Thanksgiving day cause vegetarians are insulted by the barbarous butching of all those Turkeys....
Lets just call them all "Holidays", and number them...
Holiday #1
Holiday #2
Holiday #3
Holiday #4
etc.
see, now all the sensitive people are calm now....

Damn, you are good! I get to like you more and more Logic, that's all it is, but do we have to use the word holiday? as in Quote: Holiday #1 Holiday #2 Holiday #3 Holiday #4 I'm sure there is a sensitive connection somewhere, because holiday does mean Main Entry: holiday Part of Speech: noun Definition: celebration Synonyms: anniversary, break, celebration, feast, festival, festivity, fete, fiesta, gala, gone fishing, holy day, jubilee, layoff, leave, liberty, long weekend, recess, red-letter day, saint's day, vacation See, you are celebrating something! So away with the Quote: Holiday #1 Holiday #2 Holiday #3 Holiday #4
Let's just work and forget about those special moments we can share with family and friends, then we won't hurt anyone's feelings or be stepping on anyone's toes.
That's how to avoid a civil law suit.

Pines belong to the evergreen family have many native species and have many uses... It used to be if had a tree on their property they could call it anything they wanted...
Now one more sparse verbalism.... An Ash is an ASH is an A**.....We used to have Oaks in our nation's leadership...Where in the hell did all the ashes come from...
Choose a tree that you have always admired ... Sit under that tree 30 min a day and do some serious introspections. Ask that tree questions about things that truly matter.. Gradually that tree will subtlely put you on spiritual highs and teach you the natural and spiritual laws that governed in the beginng and will determine the paths and outcomes of souls, both good and bad and the evolution of this planet plus about 8 billion more...Then you will be able to see through the smokescreens and lies of those who think they can replace mother nature and Your God....And you will realize how most of these shenanigans are about as significant as 1 snowflake in a blinding blizzard... And how simple it is ..With that I give you all unconditional Love and hope all can develop spiritually during the next year at your rate and with your decisions not by selfish others.. This is what I mean when I say "Happy New Year"

Actually....
'Columbus Day' is extremely annoying to me as well, for MANY reasons aside from the Native American issues. As far as that goes, the Native Americans were probably the most abused group in our country, and much of the predjudice remains to this day.
'Easter' is just another one of those original Pagan celebration converted to a 'Christian' holiday (explaining why we have 'bunnies' and 'eggs' on easter). 'Holidays' tend to irk me in general, but at the same time, I enjoy an excuse to get together with loved ones, share a special meal and be 'extra nice' to each other (yeah ok, not always, but it's a nice thought). I don't think there is a way to appropriately solve these issues, but generally the best policy is to just celebrate the way YOU want to celebrate and give everyone else the opportunity to do celebrate the way THEY want to.
I DO agree that religious symbols shouldn't be displayed on public property (and Columbus Day should be abolished). heh

WOW Heated subject - I respect everyones opinion even if I disagree. I don't think any of us would go out of our way to offend anyone. It just comes down to what offends you. I believe everyone has the right to believe what they want, just don't force it on me. In a public setting any religious or political object should be allowed and not discouraged. I may not like seeing the devil on clothing, but I don't have to buy it.
Peace on earth - good will to everyone
Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays
I'm just trying not to gain 40lbs this holiday season LOL

Again,  This is a 'reaction' to what you said, not an attempt at dialogue, but hey... I'll take it. I was actually just expressing 'suprise' at your comment. I have 'communed with the trees' plenty of times myself, but it was a little odd to see a comment like that here. karyoker wrote: I do not communiate wth cliques or debate with sentences contrived by others Who do you communicate and debate with then? Perhaps we're dealing with a language barrier here, because I'm confused. karyoker wrote: are you of that mentality that lives in a fantasy world generated by the media and the the ones that think they are in charge? Sorry, but the only fantasy world I live in is the one created by my own mind and yes... I am in charge. karyoker wrote: I know the truth and I see through your misconceptions and lies... wow... finally, someone who can see through my misconceptions! Could you please clear everything up for me then? Life would be much simpler. I'm not really sure what a 'thrbflock' is, but it sounds scary... so please keep it away from me

Tim, it is very arrogant of you to say that you have to celebrate Christmas the way YOU think it should be celebrated, or believe the way YOU think, in order to be celebrating Christmas. Christmas is an official U.S. holiday, not just a Christian one. Many people celebrate it who are not Christians.
I wasn't talking about immigrants...not sure how you read that into my comments. All of us in the US have roots in other countries (and I'm sure that's probably true in Canada where you live, too). Unless you are a native American or Inuit, your ancestors came from eleswhere. The point, though, is that there are many different traditions, religions, and beliefs in both countries, not just Christian. To ignore those other beliefs, religions, and traditions and to try to force your own beliefs down other peoples' throats is insensitive and rude.

Auctionmusic, if you read my comments you'll see that I never said we should get rid of Christmas, or any other holiday. In fact, I'm pretty sure I said the opposite.
You asked why merchants and others felt the need to put "holiday" instead of "Christmas", and I was explaining why.

Suzanne, not being arrogant about anything. You celebrate a gift exchange day, I celebrate Christmas. Christmas is a religious holiday no matter how you slice it. If you don't believe, you cannot celebrate the meaning. You may act it out but has no more meaning than an actor playing a doctor or a cop on television.
BTW according to you state and church is supposed to be separate, so I guess the government should cancel Christmas and replace it with something else. Only one big problem. Both our nations were founded on Christian-Judeo principles, if there was true separation The Holy Bible would be thrown out government buildings, courts, legitslatures, etc. As much as you may believe there is a separation of state and religion, you are sadly mistaken but you and people like you are trying.

Ok pagans have always try to fool the children by trying to cover-up Christian holydays by putting a tree and santa in the celebration of Christ birth even though December is actually not Christ birth we all know that we celebrate His birth on Christmas day right. Then on Easter they have a bunny and egg hunt to cover-up Christ's sacrifice for our sins and His resurrection for eternal life for those who believe in Him. I guess pagans just don't want to be left out of any Holyday and they changed that too to Holiday. And why I brought up George Bush and his cronies Knighshow is cause his a pagan trying to say his Christian so to fool the Christian people for their votes on his last elections. He's nose has grown all the way to Iraq and there is no end. Well Merry Christmas or happy Holydays to all.

I'm glad we could lighten up the subject a little
No one has ever told me I can't say Merry Christmas. I've never been told I can't have a christmas tree or celebrate my holidays the way I'd like. One time I said Merry christmas to some one who was jewish and they said thank you, but I'm jewish. I apoligized and said happy hannikah.
Isn't this more about people trying to force their personal believes upon us? If we don't like a stores policies we have the right not to shop there.
Everyone has there own opinions. I don't take it as a personal attack when I disagree. No reason to get hostile when we disagree. My thoughts when reading these posts is, I now know more about that person.
For instance I can't spell worth crap LOL
