I'd like to get peoples suggestions on songs you sing or have other people sing to get the crowd going. When I'm trying to keep the crowd going I'll sing or have a regular sing a song the crowd  can participate in. Learning new songs also helps me keep from getting bored since my shows are in the same bar 3 nights a week. Sometimes I'll get a clump of bad singers who are singing slow or boring songs and need to keep the crowd interested and not leave. Nothing against bad singers, karaoke is for everyone. I'm getting tired with these -

Examples I use: Redneck woman
                       What's goin on? (4-nonblondes)
                        sweet caroline (of course)
Piece of my heart (Janis Joplin)
                        Margarittaville
                        Born to be wild

suggestions - please - please - especially country - I don't know a lot of country

I've brain stormed and came up with some of the songs that I have noticed get the crowd motivated.  I've also noticed that for the most part the ability (or lack thereof) of the singer(s) make no difference, the crowd react more to the song/music than the person singing it anyway.  At least from my observations.  So here's the list I came up with:

Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy)
Here For The Party
All Jacked Up
Friends In Low Places
Family Tradition
A Country Boy Can Survive
Crazy Train
Pour Some Sugar On Me
The Twist
Man Of Constant Sorrow
Baby Got Back
You Shook Me All Night Long
Me And Boby MeGee
B#tch
Because I Got High
You Never Called Me By My Name
I Love This Bar
Alcohol

There's many more that I can't think of at this time, but if they come to me I will add them to the list.  Hope this helps you out.

just off the top of my head:

Mony Mony (Tommy James & the Shondells version OR the Billy Idol... both ROCK)
Tequila - Friggin' hysterical to see the whole BAR yell the word...
White Wedding - Billy Idol.
Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar
Never Again - Nickelback (it's a terrific song about battered syndrome... and the music just KICKS buttskies!)
almost ANY Janis Joplin song!
Keep Your Hands To Yourself - The Georgia Satilites
Love Shack - B-52s
Just about ANY Creedence Clearwater Revival songs! LOL!

Good paced classic rock songs seem to never fail... and they have a crossover appeal to both modern country groups as well as the "Rock" and "Pop" crowds!!

Daydream Believer always works well (I try to time my slips so I can end on that one), and strangely Annie's Song by John Denver goes down well later in the evening

i really can't believe no one mentioned Garth Brooks' Friends in Low Places or B-52's Love Shack!  We have a saying down here..."it's not a complete night of karaoke until someone sings Friends in Low Places or Love Shack"  of course i have now grown to despise both songs, but that's beside the point.
i always love to sing John Michael Montgomery's "Be My Baby Tonight" to pep things up or "Fat Bottom Girls" by Queen.

It's funny, but on the same night I sang two of the songs above, "The Twist" and "White Wedding," and I was so horrible that I felt like everybody there was giving me a blank stare.  I'm not that surprised I screwed up "White Wedding," but I usually do "The Twist" really well.  In any case, I sure didn't get the joint hopping with those two duds.  I told my friend afterwards that when "The Twist" is actually turning the crowd off, you know you've had a bad night.

Believe it or not, one crowd jump starter is "It's all how you look at it" by Tracy Lawrence....It's not too slow, it's not something they hear every night, and its message is positive and energetic ....Then follow it with "Paint me a Birmingham" and watch the dance floor fill up.

Personally, I prefer to sing anything that will fill the dance floor or make folks line up at the bar for a drink and sing along....It really makes my day when all the gals on the dance floor are looking over their boyfriend's shoulder at me as I sing something slow and romantic.

"Paradise By The Dashboard Lights" ?
I'm sure the 30 up crowd knows this one. It just needs a couple who actually know the song to sing it...........I volunteer. :newlol:

"Paradise" is one of those songs that's a treasure when sung right... but most folks don't know how to do it, and therefore it quickly becomes the bane of all karaoke songs...

True... plus there are three different versions in the song book where I sing, no way of knowing which is the one decent version.  Don't know what it is with Meat Loaf songs, but Two Out of Three is another one that everyone thinks they can do but the majority can't (me included)

Paradise by the dash board lights AAAAAHHHHHH!! to long!!

American pie - I don't allow it to be sung unless it is slow.
One night I was really busy and a guy insisted on singing it. I got tired of him whining, so I said we'd ask the crowd.    " Everyone who wants Jimmie to sing American pie which is a 10 min song yell. OK everyone who wants him to sing something different yell. "  It shut him up real quick!
