Well, I'm not sure what the problem is, but when I go to the showcase to listen to a song, the song starts playing, then it stops. Starts playing again and stops. Very annoying. Is there something I'm missing in my computer that will allow the music to play uninterrupted, or is anyone else experiencing the same problem? Thanks.

It doesn't happen to me on this computer because I have a cable connection, but when I am at my mom's who has dial-up, her's does that...I think it is because it is not fully loaded. Normally I just click to listen, wait for the whole thing to load and then play it...that seems to take care of the problem. Other than that, not sure what else it could be. Hope this helps...
Oh AND, hope to hear a sub or two of yours soon...

Thank you Allison. I think it's exactly what you just said. It seemed that the song would catch up to the part that wasn't fully loaded, then cut out. I am so behind the times with this dial-up.
I went searching for rock music and happened to hear one of yours...very nice.
So....since you've been so nice, could you also tell me how to make an mp3 and submit it?
Chances are, if I'm using dial-up, I don't have a clue on making karaoke mp3s and then submitting them to a website.
I read the FAQS over in SS, but that doesn't tell me how to record my own stuff.
Thanks. Perry

Having dial-up or a faster speed connection probably will have no effect on actually making and mp3 or your singing. It will simply be a matter of getting a backing into the computer as an mp3 and then playing it and singing to it. There are all sorts of programs available for recording.
I guess mine or anybody elses first question would be......are you going to use Karaoke Discs? Do you have a Karaoke player that would hook up to the line in on your computer. Or what are you going to use for music to sing to? Maybe somebody else will catch this first and help, or have other ideas..

Thanks Bill. Yes, I do have a karaoke machine that should connect with my computer, but I'm not sure how to do this. I just need to know what steps to take, and what hardware is needed to create an mp3, record it to my computer as such, and then submit it here. I'm not very computer literate, so this would be a great help. Thanks again.

Oh man, I don't know what happened, but my computer went really slow until I had to get out of here, then I came back and noticed that my reply posted several times.
Are there technical issues on the site right now?
Sorry.

Perry..........I hope somebody would jump in here and help, but I am going to explain it best I can..........I am new at this recording stuff (4 months) and probably do not have the best stuff........but.
The first thing.............make sure you have a line you can run from your computer player that will fit into the line in jack on the back of your computer. The plug in will be a stereo type plug.
Then............the simplest form would be just to play and sing to your karaoke machine while it is feeding the sound into your computer.
But.......at this point, you need a software program that is going to pick up that sound and make it into an mp3 file. Check Google for "sound recorders". Some are free....we will get into spending money later.
Before you start your Karaoke machine.......you start your sound recorder program. You will be able to specify in your program that it make mp3 files, and where to file them. It will also ask you where sound is coming into the computer....naturally you specify "line in".
Then, with your sound recorder started and running, you start your K machine and sing. The sound recorder will pick up what is coming out of your K machine, presumably the track playing and your singing, and boom.....you end up with an mp3 on file in your computer.
Now..........to me......that would get you started making recordings of your singing.
BUT......that is not the way to go.
You want a program that will record a music track.............then record a separate track of you singing and then allow you to doctor the quality of the two results and then combined them into one mp3.
Here maybe......is where we spend money, and I don't know what I am allowed to tell you in this forum. (This is my first posting)
I started by buying the software program.......Accoustica Mixcraft........$40.00. This is a sound recording program specifically designed for what you want to do. It will pick up the incoming sound from either your computer, a line in, or a mic in and convert it to mp3 or Wav or whatever you want. Then, it will play back the first track of the recorded music while you sing, which is recorded on the second track.
Then you mix the two together, after you have added any effects to the single tracks and end with one mp3.
I would go to their website and check it out. I believe they have a free trial.
Now..............someday.........you can go on to more expensive software programs if you like.
The problem...............OK.....you play the disc, running the sound into your computer through the line in. This records the track one with the backing. Then you want to sing to this and record your voice on track two. So.....instead of hooking your mic to the K machine, you use the mic in on the back of your computer and set Mixcraft to record from the mic in. Then you simultaneosly start the recording program (so you can hear the sound of the music as you sing) and you start your Karaoke machine so you can read the words. (Turn down the sound on the K machine so it is not being picked up by the mic) If you start the software preciseley with the K Machine, you won't even have to slide any of the tracks to make them coincide, although you could do this.
I would first play with some sound recorders which you can download off the internet, but the Mixcraft would have everything you needed to get started.
Once you have a mixed mp3 (voice and music) in your computer files, posting her is simple.
Remember............I started knowing nothing........and unless you want to take a course somewhere, it is learn as you go.
And I know somebody is going to jump in here with some good ideas. And I haven't even gotten into telling you about programs that will play Karaoke on your computer and how these could be used in all this.
Good luck
Bill

Perry.........one small point of clarification....
If your Karaoke machine has separate controls for the sound out on the mic as opposed the music............when you record the voice, just turn down the volume on the music and leave the recording for track two as line in. (you won't need a separate plug in for mic). And it will be easier to line up the two tracks. You can read the songwords with no music coming out but your voice being recorded.
Do a thorough check in this place for some of the advice postings. I have never looked at how to get to them, but I see guys/gals mentioning them all the time.
Good luck
Bill

I don't know anything about recording using a karaoke machine, so I won't be of much help on that end. As for recording programs, there are tons of great free ones out there, I use Audacity myself and it does the trick, although if you want to sound really good or have crazy effects or something you might want to look into some of the ones I saw Bill mentioned.
As for the whole recording process, I would go into it, but it has been posted about so many times in the forum that I'm sure the info you could find here is better than what I could tell you anyway. I would just do a search in the forum for how to record and see what you come up with. If you have any specific questions after that, let me know and I will see what I can do!!

Thanks for all the good info. It doesn't seem too difficult the way you explained it all, unless I have a compatibility issue with software/computer. My computer is a few years old and the last time I went to install a new software program, I didn't have enough memory. It seems my system only has 120MB RAM with 8MB RAM of the 128MB RAM being used for the soundcard or something of that nature. All I'd have to do is install more memory though. But if I knew what I was buying when I bought it new, I wouldn't have bought this one.
Hence my computer illiteracy.

Thanks for the reply Allison. We must've posted at the same time, except our time standards are set an hour apart.
I did eventually find some weblinks posted over in the Technical Forum, I just didn't have time to check 'em out yet. Now it's time to hit the sack because I drive to Pittsburgh tomorrow for 2 days. I noticed you're in the Burgh also. That's funny. I've been doing the same job going to Pittsburgh for about 8 years now, 4 days a week.
But I haven't encountered anyone as nice as you yet.
Just kiddin'.
Thanks for your help.
