i am assuming you are looking for a powered mixer. depending on the number of channels you need and the brand you want they range from $250 upwards. a good starter is a behringer 2x400 amp with 10 channels and onboard FX and EQ will run about $400. Behringer PMH880S is a good brand and solid, but the hardware doesn't last as long as peavey and other makers. the main concern should be your speakers (not coincidentally this is also where most of your money goes!) home theater speakers generally cannot handle the power that you need to run a good show. if you're singing at home it's fine, but for shows in clubs and outdoors, you'll need larger speakers. i have two dietz 400s that i use for my regular show. for outdoor shows, i add two 15" subs for a fuller sound. you shouold be able to find speakers without the subs for around $400-500. i wouildn't suggest going any lower than 300w per channel, though. puts alot of strain on your equipment.
another suggestion is hit the local music resale store in your area. tell them what you're looking for and they can point you in the right direction. they'll be helpful, because they know you'll be coming back in for speaker cord, mic cords, mics, stands, upgrades, etc.
another good place to find equipment is estate sales, flea markets, and garage sales. you'd be suprised what sort of deals you can find! just be sure to check the equipment before you leave!

I'm thinking he means a mixer in the sense that he wants only the ability to connect a mic and blend it in with the sound from his DVD player thru his home audio system...
If that is the case, then I suggest he buy a quality CD+G player like the RSQ/JVC or Pioneer twin tray that has a mic jack and go from there. That really is all he would need for now.
Later when he decides to expand then he can buy a mixer, amp and speakers designed for pro VS home use.

Hummmm....Are you like a kinda self appointed "gatekeeper" to the forums?
Give the guy an answer rather than redirect him to another forum....He will eventually learn where here to post his questions....Providing he isn't already turned away.
Imagine it this way......
Pretend we are a bunch of folks standing around chatting our interests when a stranger approaches....The stranger poses a question to us that is off topic with what we are currently discussing so we snap at him and direct him toward another group nearby.
Odds are he will walk away from the whole bunch of us least he be rejected yet again, huh?
Nobody likes to feel the fool in public....Many remain the fool out of fear of rejection.
Share what you've learned freely and without condemnation and you will gian more sincere friends and respect than you ever imagined.

1.) I didn't snap.
2.) there are OTHER forums on this site that are more geared towards what he's looking for. A simple look there will see other folks with other questions of a similar nature.
3.) it's been mentioned in the past about redirecting newbies to the appriate forums.
4.) I'm not here for respect or admiration. I'm here for a common goal with karaoke fellowship. My initial advice was a redirection, yet you turn it into an attack.
5.) bite me

Thanks all for your answer. I'm new to karaoke , so i am trying to find the best i can to integrate to my home system. I can spare some money for karaoke speaker, but if i can find a good mixer to go with my current dvd playr, that would be the best.
Sorry that i didn't know technical forum here, but i certainly will go there for more question
anyway, i mainly use karaoke at home when some of my friends get together and we want to have some fun such as singing....
thanks again.

Ease up Knightshow, you really don't want me to bite you, , you might get an infection.
Anyway, Mike.......Checkout musiciansfriend.com for a small inexpensive mixer...You can get one for 50 bucks that will accept several mics and the player outs. You can patch it in to your home audio system using cheap RCA cables.
The cheap little mixer will allow you to sound ok for now as you learn the basics and how to mix/blend the mics with the music.....I suggest you go that way first rather than maybe spend big money on what might be the wrong stuff now.

it was said tongue in cheek dude! !
There are no "forum nazis" here... basically we're all free to post what we want where we want. The mods are here for a reason, and they'll keep us in line if we really get wacko. But the reasons I gave are what they ask us to do, or did at one point!

I know....forgive me as I've been kinda testi lately....I've trying to break a 2.5 year old stallion and he is about to kill me!
He gets his ball bearings removed Monday. That should calm him down. I swear I'm going to hang those things above his stall door out of his reach as a reminder that I am in charge around this place.

I'm sitting here awaiting the vet.....Gambler knows something's up....He's rearing, stomping and romping all over the paddock.....I swear that horse can read my mind....I've got to somehow catch him and get him haltered for the vet.
If you don't hear from me soon, please come dig me out of the dirt....I'll be that greasy spot on the ground just inside the main gate.....At my funeral, someone please sing Trace Adkin's version of Wayfaring Stranger, ok?
The following is my last will and testament:
"I bequeath my horse to my enemy, my saddle to my last exwife's boyfriend and my PA stuff to my best buddy, Robbie.....I leave next Friday's paycheck to my co-workers to use to get drunk and party at the stripper bar."
Yehaw!

Been there done that Keith Put about 10 aspirins in a pill pusher and feedem to Gambler it sedates dogs I'm not sure about horses, usually the way to sedate them is workem till they are tired My grandpa used to take teams that nobody could handle and gentle break them again. He used to say a horse dont start learnin till he is tired..But one thing he drilled in me by the time I was 4, never lay a whip on a horse I broke a few during my life and never did and never wore spurs.
I rode a little mare right thru the carnival at the fair one year and she didnt bat an eye.Good luck with Gambler........ I coluld loan u ny little mule mare she would teach him some etiquitte. Do know why all cowboys got the same size balls?

Yessir!,
Yer grandaddy had it right, don't ever whip a horse, just show affection and take your time......They are just like big dogs who try to please you but get their feeling hurt real easy.
It went real good. The vet didn't take but an hour and Gambler is locked in his stall and back on his feet......I'm headed to the livestock auction tonight with my very best buddy in the world, Robbie.....
I promised Robbie his pick of a decent saddle horse for Christmas so we will see if there is one up for sale tonight. Robbie has been the best friend I ever had and has worked his butt off this last few months helping me erect fencing and the barn and all the other stuff....He is also a danged good KJ who lets me sing whenever I stroll in the door....He has proved to be a great fishing buddy and I'm looking forward to some trail rides with him this next spring.
