Anyone here use a projector?  I'm considering picking one up for playing videos while DJing and maybe even putting karaoke lyrics on the projector so the audience can join in on certain songs if one wants to do a big group song or something.  Think it'd be worth it?  Brand new they are quite expensive, but used they're not too bad.

I only know of one place doing as you describe---Its a nude dancer bar with karaoke on sundays--they put up a white sheet and project the words on the sheet behind the dancer's poles. So you get up adn sing with the dancers behind you twriling around on the poles with the "BIG SCREEN" tv being a white sheet with a projector unit! Not a bad backdrop!

I have set up a number of clubs with projectors for karaoke/satellite/videos etc and they can be very successfuly additions but you need to make sure the picture quality is up to par and that the screen can be easily seen and readable for the majority of the customers... I have seen bad projector installs or older models where whoever is viewing  the screen has to basically sit directly in front of it LOL customers off to even slight angles from the screen got blurry pics or distorted views... I have also seen places where the screen was at floor level, behind the dancefloor no less, and whenever even a single person or couple started dancing they were blocking the screen LOL  a few things to think about anyways... if you can find a decent "newer" projector and screen that fits your budget then go ahead and get it... if it succeeds in filling your needs then it can be a big attraction to your existing customers and drawing in new customers... there is a place not far from me now that has a projector and they ended up painting one huge wall in the bar and project their karaoke and videos onto the whole wall... it actually works out very well and they have it positioned high enough on the wall that even someone 6FT won't block the view... good luck- tig

I use an Optoma EP 732H.   Works great for me.   I use it for the lyrics and videos and any funny mpg.s I might run across on the web.  I also put my schedule up periodically on the wall througout the evening.  I built a 4 x 8 screen that I can project from the front and rear (for those places that don't have a large wall to project on.   Everyone loves it.   Also it is a great upsale at weddings for family videos etc.    Plus two of the bars I play at rent it from me for Superbowls and nascar races.   It has worked for me.     As for the stripper place,  That's a gig I wouldn't mind having!!!!  :)

personally, I LOVE it when kj's have a big screen / projector

Most places here have them.... I'm shocked when places don't, actually. It's fun to watch the words as ppl sing 'em and those itty-bitty TV's that are 12ft off the ground and 50ft away just don't cut it for me. Plus, there's nuthin worse than having to crank your neck in forty different directions to find the best one to read...

just my two cents

There is nothing better than a large screen that shows the singer and the lyrics at the same time.

I have and use an Infocus 4800 projector, and a Vocopro DVM-100G video mixer.  First I just used the projector, and was amazed how many people you could watch singing along with the singer.  People loved it.  When the Vocopro unit first became available I was a bit leary considering the Vocopro reputation, and the price,$500, but bought one anyways. What a difference it made. I use an old VHS video camera ($25 at a yard sale) on a tripod behind the singers monitor.  Of the several options available on the video mixer, I use the video feed of the singer from the camera with the words from Karaoke superimposed at the bottom.  Everything works great and knock on wood, I've not had any problems with the Vocopro unit (no moving parts?)in over 2 years.  Check the Vocopro site for more information about it.
