Hi All.
I recently purchased an Acesonic DGX-105 from Ace Karaoke in SF Springs. I would appreciate any comments/complaints about the unit.

I found that the 105 has a quirky, undocumented "feature" that causes the unit to power off. What I found is that approx. 10mins after you turn the unit on, with no disc in it, it powers off;  I thought this was some sort of a "sleep" mode and by pressing a button on the remote or the unit would "wake it up;" no dice. There is no menu option or mention of such a "sleep mode" in the user's manual. (the documentation limited at best and is missing a lot of info about the unit).

If there is a disc in the unit the power stays on, no problems. The power button is a mechanical on/off switch, so no soft power on/off control from the remote. Once the unit turns it self off, you must physically push the power button off then on again to power the unit up.

I spoke to two people at the Ace Karaoke main office, service dept. and told them what I found; at first they thought I had a defective unit, so I drove in got a replacement unit...same problem. I asked them to open some of their new units, which they did, and test them with the same parameters as I did. They called me back later that day and confirmed the problem did exist. They said they were going to try to find a solution for this issue. But time will tell.... The customer service at Ace is great, they actually listen to what your telling them and are receptive to comments.

Generally speaking, the unit seems to be built well, I like the fact that all major, necessary karaoke functions can be accessed on the unit, no real need for the remote; this was important for me as I bought this unit to add to my friends existing equipment in her karaoke bar.

Sorry for the long winded post.

Thanks

Haven't used it personally but haven't heard many good reviews about it from people that have.

I haven't heard anything positive on Acesonic, and have not been terribly impressed with their cordless microphones, which I have had the opportunity to use as a singer and when subbing for another KJ that had a pair.  Acekaraoke.com though is an excellent company.

I have used and am using Acesonic unit and it's been a mixed review for me. I initially started out with their 5 disc loader unit and found it be unreliable. The tray stuck on the out position and it was jammed. It would not go back in. The customer service was pretty decent and I was able to switch with two, DGX-105s for that unit.

I have seen the problem you have talked about on my machines. At worst it's annoying so it does not bother me too much specially I use two units to queue up songs for the next singer. I have used it for a couple of gigs so far and they have held up to abuse I tend to put on my rack. One small complaint is the loading time. It seems to take longer than other units to load up. I think part of this is because it's also a DVD player, and about a third of my collection is DVD based. That's why I use two units to queue up the songs so there is small down time.

One other small complaint I have is the way it behaves differently between the CD-G and DVD when the song is done. When the CD-G song is finished, it just stops. However, when the DVD is done, it continues to the next track. Supposedly there is an option that stops it from playing the next track but I haven't had chance to play around with it much.

I can't comment on the quality of sound/picture since I have not had other units side by side for comparison (before this, I had LD based machines). As for the quality of the unit, the 5 disc unit is any indication, it can't be too great. However, they are inexpensive and I have two units for redundancy and it hasn't failed yet.

I will be more certain of the quality after about 6 months of solid use. Will keep you informed.

Thanks for the info eben.

I've discovered another problem. What happened is that the unit was on for about 4 hours, of coarse it was in the "power save" mode or what ever you want to call the power off it performs; any way I powered the unit back on, palyed one song and all the controls on the unit stopped working; I had to use the remote to control the unit. I'm thinking about another complaint call to Ace. Also thinking about switching to the CVAS 203G. Anyway lets keep update coming...

Buyer beware!   Well, I returned the ACESONIC DGX-105, too many quirky issues with it; as this is used in a karaoke bar "live production" type environment, I can't afford to have to pull the unit out every time it farts. I don't think acesonic players are ready for prime time just yet; they need to do a little more r&d.

I replaced the DGX-105 with the CVAS 203, great unit not one problem.
