About a year ago we had a song drive at the 7 Bamboo. In addition to a bunch of CDG's customers donated, we had one customer buy 70 songs from the cavs website.
Like I complained in this post Cavs says they sell CDG. What they really sell is MCG. I had to spend another $70 bucks to buy their decoder, then after hearing my argument, decided to release a mini decoder. They didn't refund my $70 though. I got a $70 store credit (bastards)
Fast forward to the other day. This ladyPM's me from the cavs site asking how she can convert it to something burnable. I popped into the thread she was in and made another complaint with CAVS.
Am I being unfair to cavs? My opinion is they're doing false advertising. If you're going to say you sell CDG, give the customer a solution from download to disk burning that will deliver a CDG disk to them (like itunes does) I asked CAVS to clarify what they sell already, but it doesn't look like they took my advice.
They sell MCG. Not CDG or even MP3+G. It just really pisses me off to see them take advantage of consumers like that.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience with cavs.

I don't really see anything wrong. A CDG file is not the same as CDG disc - 2 completely different entities.
But on the other side, i've personally never liked CAVS.

Cavs is one of the forums I monitor ... After your (@$%!) they you gave a link to a free proggie to to convert from mcg to cdg.... I bought the decoder the encoder their player pe and the player sp from the getgo .... I bought a registered S&d I currently run a registered copy of Roxbox I have paid for a registered copy of create cd, winmx, folderclone, S&d, Roxbox,Dfx, Pacemaker And Winamp and a few others I cant remember.....If you are a pro you dont concentrate or (@$%!) about one proggie period.....When you have money I have invested in software and it dont perform then (@$%!) to them....Look in the horses mouth before you bye and if the horse is bad dont complain to me... There is absolutely nothing wrong with Cavs I download legal music from them and use their player to play cd's....I used their player iinitially for computer karaoke.. And they made me money... Lots of money... So dont knock em...

I think they replace beeyotch with female dog automaticlly, chill dude nobody edited your post.
Anyways, my beef with CAVS is they advertise CDG. It says right there "CDG". What they sell is a MCG which is a far cry from a CDG (compact disk-graphics) or a Mp3+G zipped, then they charge you to fix their mistake (or lie)

Which is smarter? Just sticking to making/selling karaoke, while people all over the world create software FOR FREE that helps you sell it, or trying to compete with them and keeping it a closed loop while you blow your money into an industry (software) that you(the karaoke manu) knows nothing about? -me

That's not the point i'm trying to drive home here dudette. (You're either one or the other)
Their site says.
It should say "Download MCG Songs" I'm happy cavs made money for you, but it's still a bait and switch tactic and has nothing to do with them being shady.
If they're going to advertise they sell CDG's then it better be a CDG by the time the customer buys it. I don't care if they include a minimal conversion/burning program or mail me a burned CDG, you better give me what you told me you were going to sell me.
If I told you, "Hey i'm gonna sell you sound choice" and give you something like, MTV karaoke instead, you'd be angry too.

Strange that there are so many people using MTU products, and no, I do not want to discuss this issue.

Couple of things...
1. MTU's products support other formats besides KMA. I was corrected on this a short time ago when I complained on their forum about a number of issues I had with their product when asking some questions about the Karaoke-Xtreme discs.
2. The decoder for MCG to CDG is free. Has been for quite a while. They offer this format because it's VERY easy to move from MCG to SCDG. Once you compile a SCDG disc though you are stuck. I haven't been able to find a way to go from a 'compiled' SCDG disc back to CDG without capturing the audio/video and creating VCD's, etc.

Keith01 -
Do your homework before you take cheap shots!
MTU is a great product. kma is not the only format that it accepts.
I have been a satisfied user for 3 years and Hundreds of shows.

actually Flipper, the research required isn't necessary.
Keith had a very well documented bad experience with them... at the time that they ONLY used the KMA format, not the mp3 that's included now!

the thread was about Cavs not MTU.....I'll leave it at that.
I just get a little defensive when I see posts like that. MTU is a great company and they take care of their customers. I will admit that they cant please all the people all the time...but what company can.

I too have used MTU for many years. The support is great. (In my opinion) And you will find that the kma format actually can condense the song file smaller than an MP3, while at the same time provide better quality. I researched CAVS and MTU extensively back in 1999. My descsion to not go CAVS was because the large amount of negative feedback on the CAVS forum. A good friend of mine does karaoke with a CAVS because as he states, "I'm not that computer savy." The quality of music with the cavs system in my opinion is not up to par. He admits that also.
Just for info, I currently have 9,200 songs (No dupes) on my MTU laptop (Prostar). It is on a internal 60 gig HD. I still have 13 GIG of empty space. I also have a second 60 gig internal hard drive for back up. been using it now since 2000. Never had a software or hardware failure. had a "operator error" one night when I first started. .

the thing I DON'T like about kma is that not everything supports it. On many of the hardware (not just karaoke units either) that are only using mp3...
it's a standard that is nearly universal. Even today's specialized units are going the route of adding this standard to their formats...
yet KMA strangely isn't being added. I've heard the compression differences, and it's not that noticable. since mp3 is a format recognized by multiple softwares for karaoke, why would I want to limit myself to one software...
What would happen if MTU suddenly is sued and discontinues support?
If my winamp suddenly stopped working for one reason or another, I do have other options available to me thanks to the mp3 format. Can you say the same of kma?

knightshow,
I think that MTU's reason for going to the KMA format is to make sure they DON't get sued. I use the Hoster program with my laptop. I can't not copy CDGs from my song data base to a CDG. This helps eliminate piracy. MTU has stated many times this is their reason. MP3's can be copied from anywhere. This is the take I get.

good point, and it's one that MTU openly says...
but it also limits you as the customer. So in their stance, only "they" are the legit way of running computerized karaoke.
That bothers me a bit! !
