Ive notice in some of the threads that most or their work comes from DJing. What percentage KJ work do you do? Most of my focus and interest has been in KJing. I just recently turned down a gig because they decided at the last minute that they wanted all DJing and I really didn't want to do that. I currently have two steady KJ gigs and a full time job so I didnt want to devote more time in developing a solid DJ music library. I might reconsider doing this if the demand for Karaoke continues to drop. So is their anyone out there sticking to just Karaoke jobs?  :thinkin:

Presently we are strictly KJ and have also turned down business for DJing.  We have a few friends that KJ/DJ (with emphasis on DJ) and I may go to some of his DJ gigs and learn that end (i.e. what to play and when) of it as he will be leaving for graduate school.

I just was talikng about this on another board.

2 years ago I had 7 nights a week of karaoke, I starting doing more parties so I dropped Saturday. So, for a good 2 years I worked as a KJ 6 night a week.

Today marked the end of my second to last karoke night. Tuesday night is my only Karaoke night now. I can't afford to sit around and make $150 a night KJing when I make $200 to $300 a night being a DJ.

Karaoke has changed in my area, and has kinda burned out. People that don't sing do not want to sit around and listen to others sing. In turn for my karaoke night I play dance music, also video DJ, we have trivia games and still have a good number of singers though out the night.
There will always be bars known as Karaoke bars, but as far as the other neighborhood bars that have karaoke once a week things have changed.
I have integrated Video DJ and slide show advertising into all of my shows and increased my rates by $75 keep in mind this is an Upsale.

I charge $100 for slide advertising setup and $25 a night to run it and Video DJ is a $50 upsale. My Video collection is still small about 2500 videos so far but I have been buying as many as I can usually a dvd has 30 videos on it and cost about $30. The biggest pain right now is converting video to pc.

So you have the equipment, why turn down money?
Figure out your cost to expand yourself, and crunch the numbers. It is worth the expense, or simply buy piece by piece and prepare for the future.

I have done dj'ing in the past, but right now it's just karaoke.  If it ever demands that dj'ing becomes the prominent form, I will go back to working a day job.

For me personally I got into the business to do karaoke as I love to sing and also love to meet new people.  Over the years I've done many DJ only parties etc.
I'll continue to do DJ only jobs and in fact hope to do more - I can make a MINIMUM $350 for a small 4 hr party versus $125-$150 for a karaoke gig.   BUT THE KARAOKE BAR GIG I'M STARTING BACK AT IS STEADY --EVERY SATURDAY -- The parties are hit an miss and 1 a month MAYBE .  Karaoke is my PREFERANCE as I find it WAY easier to host a karaoke show than to come up with 4 hours of mixing dance music at weddings.

I to do a number of Dj private gigs but really dont like doing DJing for bars on a weekly basis. For me it wasn't fun and most of the time a hasle. I'm like lonman in that I would like to do just karaoke when it comes to weekly gigs. I have two gigs a week now and thats fine. I was going to do a third but they decided they wanted all DJing so I declined.

Our main focus is running karaoke two to three times a week out to a bar. We have done some outside shows but none of them are exclucively DJ'ing. Most may start that way but end up Karaoke.

Excluding karaoke bar work, I do about 30 private parties a year, with 20 or so being strictly DJ gigs, majority of which are weddings.
