Hi Guys, here's another question to ponder. I put together a karaoke system in my laptop, everything was going great since i only used it for home use. I do karaoke at a local bar but since I still have long ways to go before I ripp all my cdg's I had not tried to hook up the laptop to the bar's equipment.

At home i would hook up the laptop via a s-video cable since my laptop has a s-video imput, to the back of my tv with no hassle, i also bought a little adapter that goes from svideo to video rc (you know the yellow cable on a regular video imput?) ok I test it both the s-video cable straight from the laptop to the tv and also the adapter both at home and no problem, but, when i got to the bar to do a test run.  the darn thing did not work.

The set up in the bar goes this way. i have a typical controler where you have imputs for your karaoke, dvd, and any other equipment you want to add in this case, my laptop, so I used one of the imputs I hooked up my l/r audio cable, and my video cable all coming from the laptop (the s-video cable had the adapter since the only imputs that the controller accepts are rc video not s-video, but there was no video on the tvs. my computer also tells me if my s-video cable is hooked up to anything but it read device not conected.

So what i did is i hooked up the computer directly to one of the tvs, via s-video and also with the adapter and voila, the video was perfect. so ...do i need something else between the video cable coming from my laptop to the controler at the bar to boost the signal? has anyone ran into this problem and if so, how did you fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

the controller that boosts the signal? You need to give some more specifics, unless I missed it in your post...

Video out from the laptop is s-video, and you either convert that to rca with an adaptor, or just use the s-video.... correct?

What input does the controller take? If it's COAX only, then you need a RF-converter to take the RCA connection and convert it to coax.

If you had pictures, or models of the equipment you're talking about, it would help with other people's analysis!

If you can provide the controller's brand/model number it may help. I can think of a couple of quick things to check given your information so far.

You said you have a converter that converts S-Video to RCA composite video signal. What kind of converter is it? I paid a lot of $$ for mine, about $100 each, and it's an inline dongle that has never failed me. I have had a cheap converter that worked with short cables on one TV but did not work on long cables before. You may want to check to see if a long RCA cable will still deliver the signal to your TV just as a test.

Also, you said that the controller that accepts RCA composite video signal that probably converts to multiple Coax cables to all TVs. Is that controller MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) type of controller that auto detects signals? If it is, is it connected to another signal like satellite TV or cable TV on other input? You may want to yank all other signals coming in to the controller and try again. Most of these MIMO auto detect units are suppose to change signals over when a new signal is detected but they don't always work. Again, knowing that the brand/model of this controller would help with the diagnostic.

Thanks for your help, i tought it would be easier than this but i guess it's not. Im still trying to get models to all this stuff and about the converter, it's just a little tip adapter that goes to one end of the s-video cable. so i don't think it will compare to your 100 dollar converter. i think im going the wrong way about this. I'll post all the equipment brands and models soon. thanks.

WAITaminute!

I have a converter that hooks onto my pc's S-video out and converts it to RCA (yellow wire connector), that cost a whole $1.49! I got them in bulk at a website that deals with discontinued and surplus items.

What some (tip) adaptors will NOT do is convert COAX to RCA. For that you need a RF Modulator (different frequency)...

Please post pics of your setup.

Thanks Guys for all your help

ok this is what the set up looks like:

I have a 300 cd+g player, a single cd+g dvd player they both are hooked up to
an LIVE lk-8500 stereo music digital echo key controller power mixer (yes thats the title) than that goes to a LEADER cdg-1 cdg decoder v 2.0, than that goes to a PRO VIDEO Vid-D video distributor pretty much that is it.

so... I Hook up my s-video cable coming from my laptop  into one of the video inputs from the LK-8500 (my cable has a s-Video to rc video adapter (tip) and there is no video.

like I said before, I hooked it up directly into one of the tvs via straight s-video to s-video and no problem, i also tried s-video to rc video using my adapter (s-video to rc video) and no problem I get a picture.

But when i hook it in to the LK-8500 is when i get no video I tried removing the karaoke video cable and tried hooking it htere but no luck, same for the dvd video imput no luck. It also has two other aux. inputs both with video and l/r audio, tried them too but no luck. do i need another divice between my laptop and the lk-8500?

Of course I could hook up my computer to one tv and use that one for the singer since i have my own monitor via the laptop but the point is that i would like to use all 5 tvs that i have available like when i use the other two cdg players.

Thanks

you could simply hook up a splitter... rca in to several rca outs... they have some models like that at Radio Shack... dunno about five, but I have seen them up to FOUR!
