Hi everyone. Recently, I have been asked if I have Spanish songs in my collection. I currently do not. However, being in California, I expect this question to come up often in the future.

I would like to get a set of decent base of Spanish CD-Gs. I would like to get the best quality discs possible, you know, the Soundchoice/Chartbuster equivalent to Spanish discs.

Can anyone make a good recommendation on a base set on Spanish song like the Foundation or the Brick series? I would think about 250-500 songs range would be good star it off. I would also like mix of traditional and contemporary songs as well.  Thanks in advance.

Melly I had a venue last year that was strictly Tejano Musica they would get bands out of Texas on the weekends and I never could find any Spanish karaoke  that they liked... Got most of the Tejano mp3's... It seems the Spanish karaoke is classic espanol and not Tejano......  Suggestions??////

For those wondering Tejano is a blend of German and other nationalities  music such as  the squeezebox (polka)  combined with an upbeat Spanish musica It is awesome....

As a big spanish cd+g collector, I'd personally recommend:

http://www.museodeldisco.com

Make a search by album and just type "karaoke" or even better if you are looking for bargain high quality karaoke dvd's:

http://www.discosfuentes.com/discotienda/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_16

I bought a lot from them, feel confident to order from those places.[/url]

You'll really amaze with all they have...enjoy!!!

Thanks all for the suggestions. Now, I don't know much about Spanish songs at all. Can you make suggestions on must have songs/artists that goes well with the Spanish singing community? I don't want to get songs and no one sings them. Thanks again in advance.

Spanish music has a wide variation of genres.

I guess you would need to determine which spanish genre the people in California want.

Wow, thanks so much superpowter. That's exactly what I was looking for. As I said, I don't sing anything in Spanish, other than La Bamba. LOL I will keep that list as the base and keep looking. Thanks again for the comprehensive list.

I have been doing karaoke for the past 3 years in Los Angeles. but here is the funny part, i do spanish Karaoke only not english, why? I don't know, I just love singing in spanish.
I have a large collection of spanish music. In California most spanish speaking people are mexican, than central american, and from their its anyones guess.

before i can give you a tip, can you tell me what type of venue has asked you for spanish music, it makes a big difference. local bar, private parties, weddings, etc.

let me know, and if you want really good karaoke cds in spanish, choose Multimusic "Multikaraoke" brand. they have the best cds in the market.

They have Any type of music you can think of, and they don't use keyboards for mariachi, banda or norteño music, they record the songs just like the originals.

I hope this will help a bit, answer my question and i might be able to help you a bit more, also let me know where in california do you play at, that helps also.

I had one venue that also had Tejano bands from Texas and I would search for Spanish karaoke and none would turn them on....Other than Selena of course..  I just booked a Spanish party Dec 10th and while discussing DJ music she said she liked New Mecico music better than Tejano When I asked her what the difference was she couldnt tell me. I'm thinking its more of a latin type without the squeeze box.

Also I have aa lot of Tierra mp'3s  and would love to have some karaoke songs in his style....

Tejano music is unique to Tejanos.  It's a blend of Mexican Rancheras, and tropical music performed by bands using variatons of horns, keyboards, heavy bass lines, progressive guitar chords, power house drummers and an energetic accordion.  Think of Chicago or Earthwind and Fire playing Mexican ranchera music with an accordion for flavor.  But sadly, this style of Tejano music is not as popular as it once was.

The simpler Tejano music is not as powerful and uses an energetic accordion as the main instrument. Tejano music, for some reason is not readily accepted by non Tejanos (Mexican Nationals/Mexican American not from Texas.

When it comes to Ranchera music, Non Tejanos like the simpler Mexican Norteno style.  They also like something called banda.  They use blarring horns, clarinets, flutes, and  possibly a keyboard.  The guitar parts are played by horns.  A tuba on the downbeat and horns (or a heyboard that sounds like french horns) on the upbeat.

But don't get me wrong.  Non Tejanos also like higher end music which falls more along the lines of pop music such as Luis Miguel and Juan Gabriel. They do  have their pop music, which is probably what she means by new Mexico music (I assume new music from the country of Mexico). Many Tejanos like some of the higher end Mexican music too. But then again Tejanos are very versatile and many love country music and other types of American music as well.

I personnaly love to sing Tejano and Mariachi music.  Right now I'm into Mariachi music. I would do Tejano music as well but I can't seem to find any good Tejano music on CDG's.

It's when it comes to Tejano music that we differ from Non Tejanos.  They don't care for Tejano music and most Tejano fans don't care for banda or  norteno music. Please note:  I said most.  There are Tejanos that do like the simpler accordion driven music (conjunto music).  Sadly, this type of music is now being passed of as Tejano music.

Hope that explains the difference.

Selena?  Well that's another story.
