Is anybody doing the mystery song pool yet.  The KJ picks an off the wall song and gives vague hints every rotation... To be elgible the singer puts a dollar in the pot.. It adds up over a few weeks and whoever figures out the song puts in a dollar and sings it (if they don't put dollar in that rotation they can sing one of their regular songs)  wins the pot... I'm going to try it.....Even if I have to put in #20 to get it started...

Also I need to figure out a way to have winners that night (shorter version) It sounds like a hell of an idea to me.....Suggestions????

How does it last over a few weeks?  Most shows give 3-6 rotations depending on how the night is and over 3 hints an answer should be easy to get.  And does the singer give the answer to the song as their song in the rotation?

The hints are very vague and as the pot builds over a few weeks the hints get better and better....  example North To Alaska  hint  cold   good hint  gold....

If the night is busy the singer only has $3 to $5 invested but they come back....

Whoever sings North To Alaska and puts a dollar in before singing it wins the pot....

The pots overseas are building to over $200......

We used to do it (The Mystery Song), the bar would put up $20 per week, didn't cost the patron.  We would give 1 clue per week & anyone that SANG the song - all the way through - would win the pot.  Usually it would be sung within a couple to few weeks with pots under $100, but our highest got up to $260, the game lost it's luster after a couple years.
It did get people to try new songs though!

Honestly, I don't know.  What more could one do?  Bigger money?  More frequent clues - leading to smaller but more frequent cash payouts.  I wouldn't charge the customers.  M
Maybe would throw in bonus prizes if it were guessed on a particular night.  We used to have a clue board that everyone could view & had the clues on my site as well - which I should be available to anyone - but only a singer will win also it was on a "FIRST one" to sing it in rotation so we would get people there earlier to turn their slips in the minute I (or the host) came through the door.  One night, we had 5 people submit the correct song, but the first one obviously won it.

Like I said it went well for almost 2 years.  For a club that has never had it, it may go as equally as well.  We have done so many games over the years, some have hit while others have bombed, but we rarely do any of them again looking for something new - at least something we haven't done, not necessarily a new concept.

I used to do the mystery song we added $5 a week to the pot last time it hit $250 before someone sang the song, I gave no clues. We do so many other things now I have not started it up after the last winner.

Our new event it team trivia every week. I run a trive game early in the evening to get people in the door and the winning team gets a $25 give card for beer or food. We regularly run contest that last five weeks every other month, we do gong show karaoke, kamakaze karaoke, reverse gender karaoke, inpersionation karaoke, and my personal favorite karaoke for beer.

I don't do mystery songs but I do a music trivia every time. What I do is ask a simple music related questions and whoever can come over to me first and gives me the right answer, they get a free drink on me.

Some of the questions I posed in the past:

What were the two names the band Beatles went by before they became Beatles?
Who was their original drummer?
Name the 4 Monkees, first and last names.
Who wrote most songs for Monkees?
Who are/were the two lead singers for Genesis?

Pretty simple stuff but most of the people don't know the answers. It creates some interest during the show.
