Hello all, I work for next 2 years for chineses people who bring from china a DVD player with a CD and 20 000 songs on it (5000 in english, 2000 in spanish, 2000 in greek...) its call "KVD" you have full video clips and the sound is like what you have in midi but better.
i have looked this KVD in my computer, and it simple. You have a long video of 2h+ and a folder with all lyrics in text, the player just put anytime in the video ramdomly and the lyrics you've selected. in fact you have almost the same clip for each song but its great.
two questions:
is anyone using this system ?
is anyone know a software to read it in a computer ?
Thx a lot

Unless it's licenced, it's illegal.

Also you have the "all your eggs in 1 basket" scenerio. What happens if you scratch that ONE disc? You are out your entire collection. If you scratch a regular cdg, you are out maybe 15 songs.
No thanks!

Then go for it.
Seems you are kind of limiting yourself with those formats only since the BULK of music is on cdg these days.
Which brands are those songs on the disc in question.

its true that LD come in first two year before CDG, I have worked in many places and I feel better to use full clips from pionner, sunfly or other because they are simple and easy for people, most people in france are bad singers.
after it's my taste

It is all a matter of taste, however those formats don't produce the music that cdg does (at this time). Pioneer (I still use them too) don't even make karaoke products for the pro user anymore - definately no laser or cdg's. I believe they did start doing DVD's but then discontinued that - but even those were duplicated from the laser library.
VCD manufacturers are few & far between & new music don't come out. I don't believe "most" people in France are bad singers, maybe it's because the "good" singers are looking for the newer music found on more available products (ie cdg)....you could also look at it THAT way too - but then again, i'm not there.

when ya are talking about English VCD's you are right on the button- not alot to choose from and definitely not the new stuff available... but the foreign language stuff (non english) there is a ton of stuff available if a person knows where to look and you might be surprised at the new stuff available (in other languages)... quality of the music arrangements varies no differently than the variances in CDG manufacturers... as you said, all a matter of taste and the audience demographics being played to...

there are MANY places like that in our neck of the woods matt... many of my clients were asian restaurant/bars and they don't own a single cdg... Soundchoice, to them, is what the DJ does to choose the sound music settings... I have heard some great VCD's in other languages with some beautiful videos... there are probably more foreign karaoke VCD's than CDG's out there...

I have never come across a CDG and all my collection are VCD. The local VCDs are good; many of them are produced by the same CD lable and using the same music backing track with the original artist in the vidio.
English vcds are far and few and I have a feeling that they are made from copies of the CDGs with vocal guide added.
My feeling is the next move will be to DVD, rather than to CGD in this reagion at least.
