I was wondering how people out there in the Karaoke world feel about Sunfly disc ???

They have a great selection of songs that other labels dont carry but some of them sound pretty awful.  For example Depeche modes "Master and servant" sounds like a joke so does "Crazy Horses" by the Osmonds.  Another thing I dont like for example on the song "Life on mars" by David Bowie they use too much of their back vocals for that track, they also do that on "Road to nowhere" by the "Talking heads"

I just feel if I want to buy something on disc ...since they are kind of pricey anyways I want to get something worth my money.

I also found things in the Sing To The world and Zoom catalog that I like, but  I have no idea how the quality ranks compare to others.

My first choice of disc is always Soundchoice but I have exhausted their selection and it takes time for them to release something but it is always worth it.

Until next post....see ya...Tim

Yuk, I personally hate, dread, and will not own Sunflys.  You are right they sound awful.  I definately wouldn't let my Grandma sing off of a Sunfly disc, she'd slap me.

If you are waiting for new stuff then try Pop Hits or Top Hits Monthly.  I quit buying new Sound Choice because they take so long to bring out the new stuff.  PHM & THM usually stay up to date and they sound just as good, if not better than Sound Choice.

Tim,

For Singtotheworld, you can go directly to their site, and can "stream" the songs... as a free member, you only get twenty seconds worth, but as a paid member (and it's pretty cheap), you can stream as much as you want!

Karaoke.com usually has preview (music only) of the majority of their tracks.

The custom site mycdg.com carries sunfly, chartbuster and soundchoice, many of which have the same kind of twenty second music only preview.

I do believe that some other retailers are doing this as well...

I personally only own a handful of Sunfly/Legends discs... and you're right. They are pretty hit and miss... much moreso than other brands.

I'll say that Singtotheworld has proven to be very reliable. I've gotten six custom discs from them so far! Almost as many as I've gotten from Sound Choice!!

Hit and miss is a good description, but I like most of the European stuff they bring out, something pretty much between Sunfly (God, I hate that yellow start-up logo of theirs) and Zoom. Unfortunately the big naime like SC do not really cater for the EU market as much.

Yeah Sunfly had alot of euro bands avail.... they carry Placebo and alot of Blur and Oasis....I wish other Karaoke labels would pay attention more to the euro bands!!! I personally believe that Clear Channel Entertainment is responsible for the US Charts and to me right now is pretty lame...at least in the 90's we had a grunge movement ...Right now I dont even know whats going on in the US charts or what kind of movement it is...bands are becoming more fly by night and how many Britney Spears do we have out there!!! YIKES!!!

But yea Sunfly has a good selection of music I just wish they would sound better.  I had a laugh looking at their catalog one day and came across a song available for Karaoke by Laurie Anderson called "O superman"  She is a performing artist and that song is VERY strange.....Tim

DEFINATELY agree on the Euro market Tony!! You hit that one on the head!

I only have 5 sunfly, and 10 Legends (same company)... total of 213 songs.

Now, first off, let me say that their version of "Gimme Shelter" (Rolling Stones) is by far and above the very best out there so far! (However the rest of that disc is just okay.

Same thing with "Boys Of Summer" (Don Henley), and their Eagles discs are really, REALLY good (almost as good as the defunct SC8125 (and MILES above the horrid Backstage Eagles disc!). For years, I had the best version of "Wouldn't It Be Good" (Nik Kershaw), the Pink Floyd disc I own is actually pretty good,... and I had a version of "The Power Of Love" (Frankie Goes To Hollywood) that a regular used to come across town to sing at my show... and it was a track I honestly didn't consider when I wrote up my songbook! UNTIL I played it. Then I remembered it from the dance club days of my youth!

I'd never say I bought "crap" from them, but I WILL tell you I DID carefully consider each and every Sunfly purchase. At one point I considered getting the SC8125 rather than the three separate Eagles discs (Eagles and other artists) from Legends... but then realized I'd gain FAR more than I ever lost out on! $45 was a helluva lot better than $300!

Hey there, been reading forum but haven't posted in forever. On the subject of Sunfly, has anyone heard and seen the whole arrangement of the song "Star Trekkin'" by The Firm? For some reason I want that song badly, but I can only find it on SF. Wonder if it would be worth the money, or if a another brand might make it and I just missed it. (Have this fetish for obscure novelty songs lately! ) Thanks! -Chris

It's pretty good!

I think Sunfly rock songs are the best I've heard.  The guitarist on "You Really Got Me" sounds just like Eddie Van Halen, or really darn close.  Led zep excellent.  The cut of "You can leave your hat on" beats the crap out of the other versions I've heard.  Foreigner also very good.  I could go on.

Just my two cents.

Sunfly has more Radiohead that anyone by far.  Most labels only have CReep, but they have Paranoid Android and No Surprises.  Paranoid Android sounds great on it, but No Surprises was recorded in the wrong key.  Still, I like that Sunfly has some songs that other labels don't, but always listen before you buy.

Being a Brit living in Canada, I buy SingtotheWorld, Zoom and Sunfly.  I have around 300 discs of different brands.  The worst ever is The Legend Series (even worse if you dare make a key change).  With regards to Sunfly, I find the older stuff pretty 'naff' but the newer stuff is much better.  Also the Sunfly Gold Series is OK too.  I am a big fan of Zoom and Sing to the World.

Luv Di xxx

I'm tentative on purchasing a pick n mix from Sunfly, first off the $ conversion throws me off and when they put different prices on different S&H charts.  And by the time they'll send me a reply (still waiting for 2 months) some songs I had chosen have went to Soundchoice.   But I still have other songs, that are no where near to being on SC or THM and since PHM quit their Rock selections I may have to gamble on Sunfly.

you don't need to buy from an overseas person. Many of the vendors on here sell Sunfly. Karaoke.com, acekaraoke.com, etc.

Matt, he was talking about a custom disc from Sunfly.

I have several sunfly discs, and have been pretty happy with the quality.  I have a Carpenters disc, the Depeche Mode, and the Commitments.  I've not heard a bad track yet (granted, maybe no one's hit the bad ones) and other than the hideous logo screen, I think they're pretty good.

www.mycdg.com has custom discs you get strictly from the three manus... you can not mix and match between them.

It's how I got my first five customs! LOL!
