This was sort of asked earlier, but it wasn't really answered so I thought I'd try: I have a JVC303 for my home system, but I'm sick of having to constantly get up to change discs. Therefore, I would like to change to a hard drive based system that stores at least 5,000 songs. I have NO interest in a computer based system (even if I did, my wife would never let me have a computer in the living room). The only systems I've been able to find are the CAVS systems. Are there any alternatives to CAVS? Are CAVS systems good? Don't worry about price for now. Thanks in advance.

Why don't you do it from a laptop?
She can't complain about that can she?

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have a laptop, don't want a laptop. I simply don't like them at all and I have no interest whatsoever in any sort of computer based system. Is there anything other than CAVS that can help me? And is CAVS worth it? Thanks much.

yeah there are a few other options for a non disc based system other than computers... I posted links awhile ago and will find them again and post... the prices of these machines are geared for businesses so it may or may not be reasonable, depending on your budget...- tig

Thanks. I think I found the post you referred to (from back on April 21). If that's the one, much appreciated and very helpful. If not, I look forward to you posting the correct link.

Look into a VocoPro Media jukebox, I think they are terrible but for home use it will do what you are asking. $400 I just don't like the fact everything has to be converted to divx.

I'm sorry you won't consider a laptop.
Mine remains on the arm of the sofa and me n the wife both use it for whatever....It is linked wirelessly to the surround system and livingroom bigscreen TV....We do everything with it and sometimes fight for who gets to sit there to control it. The laptop gets more use than any of the other PC's in the house.
My real home karaoke system is ran off a stand alone PC built especially for multimedia.....It sits in the gameroom and is connected to my stage pro audio system and has about 15K songs on it-both karaoke and dance stuff....All computers in the house are connected via wireless networking...So we can play any songs in just about any room of the house with a TV and a computer.
Take care not to limit yourself with a standalone box that doesn't integrate with all your other stuff in the house.....Think wireless.

You'll have more options to work with with a computer based system as well.
