Now that's cheaper than I thought I would pay (including a karaoke player).
Tony- thank you. I knew you'd show up.........atleast I was hoping you would. :oh yeah:
That's a pretty decent price......... and I guess I can actually buy it "one piece at a time" ......... , even though it's only TWO pieces.
My speakers have the wierd kind of plugs on them, but I reckon I can rewire those to a different plug. (???.......guess I'll find out......... ???) If not, I'll be back shortly saying "what speakers can I get the best bang for my buck on??"......haha
I've ordered catalogs on these websites (the ones that have them to order), but I think the Behringer sounds great- with the JVC. I am a bit familiar with both, I know someone with a JVC karaoke machine.......... and I have a small Behringer mixer that I use for recording on my comp- - this real sweet friend of mine helped me out with that.
Thanks everybody, you'd think a dingbat like me could look it up on my own. But when you come up with oh, about......... 2, 190,000 websites to go through when you type in "home karaoke system" on Yahoo, you get tired of looking. I thought it would be easier to ask people here. And it was, so thanks for helping.

Didn't think you were talking about a powered mixer, didn't read correctly! Than, I would still recommend the same monitors but with out the amp, the B-2031. Or, why not get a non powered mixer with the powered monitors instead, always better this way, isn't it?
True what you are saying Micky, but it is not what Blue wants. She has speakers, and cannot afford new powered speakers. Baby steps my friend

Contact your nearest RadioShack, show them the speaker plugs and amp/mixer outputs and they will help you with some converters. No need to rewire.
Good luck gal, and if you need anything, just pm/email

I'd stay away from Radio Shack or any place like it. Think about it, do you really want a clerk telling you about converting your wiring. You're better off going to an electronic repair shop which specalizes in audio equipment.

Not everyone at RS is the idiot you try to make them to be. It's a simple converter, not really science. Blue can go into RS and find the converter herself you know.

Allstar, hun, you trying to save the "electronic idiot" reputation I've been building for myself? lol Thank you....... believe it or not, I've rewired quite a few things, from cb mics to wiring in my truck........ and I know how to figure out if a guy at Radio Shack knows his stuff or not. Yeah, I figure I can pick 'em out myself. Thank you guys for the tips....... I'll get this all figured out, or blow my speakers trying. But- then I'll know what NOT to do if that happens.

Yea... Sometimes the guy working at Radio Shack used to teach electronics for the military and did lots of stereo wiring and installations. Of course when I was working there I was more knowledgeable than 90% of the guys there (and likely more).
If you can let us know what speakers you have it might point out some issues you'll have with the upgrades and what connectors are on them as well.
I do recommend the PD series and the mics are kick butt, especially since they're only $50 each and my PD-250 came with 2 of them. I prefer them to just about every other mic I've tried and they're not as 'hot' as many others.
Do you have anything else planned for the equipment? Do you plan to record the tracks to your computer? Playback from the computer? I just want to make sure that all the bases are covered in the recommendations.
What Allstar mentioned will work just fine.... I just want to make sure we get all the bases covered for such a great person!

if you have a familiarity with electronics, then going to Rat Shack is just fine. I go there all the time.
if you're totally clueless, Tim's suggestion has merit. BUT when you walk in with a set of speakers, and say you have THIS type of connection and you need to hook up to rca or whatever, they CAN and WILL help you.

Hmmmmmmmmm............ if I knew how to insert pictures here, I would do that so you could see my speakers. But- I never learned how to do that.
So.....
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 28015&rd=1
(Found some on Ebay)
They appear to be German made or something, cause when I search, I pull up alot of UK websites.
The wiring- don't laugh at my description, I don't know the technical name- at both ends, speaker & stereo, it's just the bare wire and you flip the clip back-poke the wire in- and that's it. (NO plugs) So, wiring up something else at one end should be kinda easy I would think. (since the wire is already stripped, )

And..to be honest, I don't know if these are very good speakers. To me.....good=LOUD.
Reallllllllllllyyyyyyyy don't laugh at this. (please)
I got them from a lady whom I know (slightly). They were her sons, and he moved away to college. They were still new in the box, and he had- get this- bought them from some guy in Portland out of the back of his van downtown. He apparently had a van load of stuff....... maybe stolen, who knows. But, this kid paid $350 for them, she sold the set to me for $175. And, they do some major thumpin'- I like 'em.
But it's funny..... I found some websites talking about "men selling speakers from the back of a van"...... in Canada....... All I know is they put out some pretty good volume, and I've never regretted the purchase.
See the description in my first post, I wrote all the info there.

Wait until you have your mixer/amp, then you just get the right plugs for the main outputs from your local RadioShack dealer, solder them on and away you go. Just remember that speaker polarity does make a difference. You want the speaker cone to pump the music out, not suck (that's what happens with reverse polarity) BlueStainedShoes wrote: And..to be honest, I don't know if these are very good speakers. Why would I laugh? You are happy with them right? And that's all that matters! The speakers are yours, you're happy, so keep them. Don't let people bully you into buying stuff you don't need.
Spend your money wisely on a poweramp/mixer combo (as suggested) get the JVC player and rock the house. :dancin:

most speakers use one of four types of connections.
1.) 1/4" plugs.
2.) banana clip
3.) bare wire with clips.
4.) XLR
they all use the same type of wires (just different grades) to deliver it from the amp to the speakers.
Mixers will put the output in many formats... XLR, 1/4", RCA (the audio and video wires that's mostly standard for hooking up all stereo components), and the bare wire connect.
So all you will need is a way to connect the bare wires to whatever type of converter, or an adaptor to convert the type of connection to one the speakers take.

OK so now is a good time to learn. There are 2 ways of inserting a picture.
#1 is by linking an image from the internet. You will use the command for that, e.g. speakers
(without the spaces in the beginning or end)
or below the message box where it says Add an Attachment, you use the browse function (Next to the filename:) to find the image, e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\pwruser\My Documents\My Pictures\BSS.jpg
and presto!!

Okay, so I'll try this and see if it works....... (the 2nd way, don't know what to try from the internet, so I'll grab somethinng off my comp)
Nothing as glamorous as the pic YOU used of course, .............

That was a hilarious pic Charmin GREAT JOB!!! You learnt it!
can I add something to your thread here.. which may sound stupid but this is my setup at home which would work for karaoke parties if I had any friends that would sing once .... but I use it when I practice for contests, etc.. cuz I can get it LOUD just like at a bar..
I have my Singing Machine karaoke machine ... RCA connection to my TV screen (video and audio in's)... My tv audio is "out" RCA connected to my 15 yr old Sony Stereo Receiver which is connected to my big and 15 yr old RCA speakers (same speaker wire connection as what you are describing).
We already had the receiver connected to the tv for movies, etc.. similar to surround sound setup I guess, just missing actual surround speakers..

Hi Cindy......... I thought that pic was cute, a friend emailed that to me. Lol, I put it on my desktop as my background. (well, blue screen with that in the center) Now it's bugging me cause when I log off the internet & other programs, I start to click it. (habit I guess)
You know, we have a surround sound, my hubby just doesn't think movies sound right without them. (you should hear the dang Nascar races in my living room, it's like you're THERE) haha Someone told me once that I could run my karaoke into that, but my hubby- bless his little black heart- thinks I'd "blow it". Can you imagine that? It's not like I play my music THAT loud.
But I wanna move my karaoke OUT of the living room anyhow, I'm about to move so I'm hoping to have a seperate room for my setup- I HATE it being in the living room. Sounds like you have a better setup than me though..... atleast you can work with what you got. I literally move around the room with my mic stand trying to find a spot where I wont squeal with feedback. I need somewhere where my speakers aren't "smunched" anyhow. (I ThInK that's a word)
Tell ya what, since I KNOW HOW............ I'll put a pic in now. (don't look at the dust and all that good stuff, , just the setup)

Oh, and as a matter of fact.......... I AM watching cartoons.
This is where I record: (other end of the same room) Not much to brag about there either. Again........ excuse the dust & stuff, haha
Oh, and MATT........ I think I am familiar with those connectors, but don't know the names of them. Well, RCA- yeah, those are on everything...... so I'll just have to look on back of my stuff when I get it and remember by what I see. I use Radio Shack quite a bit actually, you know Canby- there's not much more here. There's always Fry's in Wilsonville- I can go there too. And the Radio Shack here has a guy who seems to know what about stuff like that........ but there's one other dude there I remember one time- he was ClUeLeSs........ But it's easy to tell soon as they open their mouth. I can take my hubby along though, even though he's not a singer...... he's good at stuff like that. He'll know what I need if I don't. TY
