After subbing on here for awhile cuz ya can't get out to the karaoke shows, do ya go to one and sing and.....get FLOORED with the praise and accolades? Do ya sit there wondering, what is wrong with these people, I'm not used to this! Don't they know I ain't that good?! (Cuz you're so used to your life on this website.)

Not taking away from the support and comments on my subs; it's just that it's different in person.....after being here for awhile (and this might just be me), and being around singers on this site ya know are better, you're not prepared for the love and praise at live shows. Whatever, I love it!!!!!!!

Tried to edit but it wouldn't let me...hmmmm I think it's the 3D factor, I really do. People here could be raving and loving on ya (Melly for example) but we can't hear it. It's the nature of the electronic beast. It just ain't warm and fuzzy and schmoozy!!

Most of us, I think, sound way better live than in our amateur recordings, so that may be part of what you are hearing, too.

I go to karaoke about once a month (sometimes more or less) and usually I get pretty good applause.

If the Karaoke venues you speak of are bars,  don't forget to factor in alcohol :oh yeah:

Not trying to detract from your actual talent, yet when the listeners are a little "high" or even just more relaxed, they seem to be more attentive.  Granted, in the case of someone who truly stinks it's unlikely a crowd will go wild with applause. Yet depending on how "happy" many in the audience are feeling,  that's not out've the question either :O

It depends alot on the environment you are in.  A sunday morning competition, and a friday night lounge are quite different insofar as the responses you might receive.

My comment is solely based on my own experiences performing before different types of audiences.  A few drinks tends to make many a listener quite friendly LOL

You likely won't find that reactions in either this venue,  or the bar enivronment provide the most accurate representation of a persons talent.

Actually I've seen singers that were HORRIBLE get wonderful praise because they were having a great time and putting on a show.

Karaoke is about having fun and most people know this.  When we have a really good singer or someone that puts on a show the crowd goes wild.

And yes, subbing here is no substitute for going out and singing in a crowd.  Of course the last time I did that I got so hammered because someone liked my singing (they were buying me drinks) I got terribly sick (don't drink large quantities of long island iced teas in short periods of time).  I was offered the chance to fill in for a host at one show after I went twice.  Her and her husband are going on vacation and want someone to fill in for them - they asked me after only 2 shows!

Interaction with people is wonderful when you get a chance to sing and get an instant response.

I'm still waiting for the day I get an appreciative crowd.  Sometimes if I do well one or two people will give compliments, but the crowd pretty much just sits there.  The maddening thing is that the reaction seems to be pretty neutral whether I've just stunk it up or done well.  Not just for me, for everybody.  And I've been to about five different joints around town.

Steven Kaplan- don't go trying to burst bubbles now.

I thought all that praise & applause after I sing was because I was the STAR of the show.......................  lol

Tigger, I know what you're saying.  That's an awesome feeling to have a crowd actually quiet down when you sing & turn to listen to you, then you get a big applause after & nice comments.  That's what keeps taking me back again & again, I love that feeling. People live would never judge & nitpick your song to death. Can you imagine- a karaoke bar with a neon sign that flashed "Critique" or "Just For Fun" over each singers head? lol  What kind of drunken bar brawls would we see then? (actually, it might be fun)

To me, that is more the real world, seeing how a crowd reacts to you.  So, yeah- they probably just love ya.  I'd take it for what it is and enjoy the praise.

Sweets...we ourselves NEVER hear what others do! We did karaoke two weeks ago...we'd taken a few months off...the only singing i've done has been here and there recording. I got told i sounded better! ok...all i can say is...Booze is a GOOD thing to have when I sing. LOL  And yes...i really DO love that sweet voice of yours! I as a KJ don't really care if a person sings great. We've been doing this eight years. I LOVE the fact they have the courage to get UP there and belt it out and have a good time. Our crowds go wild for everyone who sings..Why? Most of our regulars were the shy ones. THEY know what it feels like to be nervous and scared..they give lots of encouragement. Enjoy it Sweets....i agree with the above...it's a good and wonderful thing! :hi5:

Hey Tigger :D Glad to see that you're having a blast doing 'live' music. :)

There's another thing that just might be going on too... all of this 'recording' & critiquing and working on our vocals actually makes a difference!!! :D

I'm still not 'fantastic' but, I have been trying so hard with my songs here, that my actual 'live' performances have improved tons. Yours probably have too!! :)

Enjoy it!! lol

Charmin LOLLL what a great post after me reading that ALCOHOL was why they loved me (ego was firmly on ground after that). Everything you said was right on, I truly couldna said it better (critiques at karaoke LOLLLLLLLLL). What ya said puts this site in perspective, and ya said it all neat and pretty.

And Melly and Seby, love you two!!

I go to karaoke once a week on wednesdays, always at the same place, and it's a great crowd there. My home away from home. :) But ironically enough, I think I get even more nervous now on some songs after singing here at SS. Through SS, I've learned that I sound a whole lot better than I thought I did on some types of music, but a whole lot worse than I thought at others. lol! Although factor in that alcohol effect, and I still sing 'em anyway. ;)
