I alwayz right click on a sub, then Open in a new window, listen and add a comment if I going to, then submit the comment, go back to the main window, and continue on to the next even though the comment i submitted itsn't done.. After a bit I go along my task bar and close the windows. Also this way you don't lose your place from the main window, like if you were on page two you'll still be there cause you never directly click a link in the main window...

The forums have been very slow the past few days...click on a link and nothing happens...clicking many times does not help at all.
Also it would be nice if the themes were actually changed on Monday...here it is Tuesday and it still says Novelty Hits! I wouldn't mind but then it gets confusing, I have a song all ready on Monday for the new theme, and then, do I submit it, and do I check "theme"? Meanwhile someone else is submitting a song from the past week's theme...it's kind of annoying. Not a major thing, I guess...the site is still great!!
How many people work on this website? Just curious...

Yes you can sub the new Theme... it's really not a major thing..
Personally I'd rather see Phill's efforts concentrated on fixing the speed of the site than something as minor as changing the theme tag at the top of the page.. especially since the site was apparently down for hours earlier this morning..
Just my :2cents: ... cuz I know there are a ton of "little" things that add up to big time takers...........

That same thing has happened to me since I joined the site... the weird, blurry scrolling thing. It kinda looks like streaky horizontal lines down the page, generally repeating several people's names all the way down the page. It took me a while to learn not to attempt scrolling until the page had completely loaded. My browser window is set up to show the status bar down at the bottom of the page, so that I can tell when the page has finished loading although a lot of people have that feature turned off and don't see that the page is still loading.
I hadn't really noticed the site being all that slow... well, except for a few weeks ago one night when the SS wouldn't even load. When I notice that, I just refrain from visiting for a while and hope that the bugs have been worked out. They usually are.

I've noticed when I go directly to the Singer's Showcase link that it appears to be accessing a whole ton of other websites while it's trying to load SS song page. Like a script has gone awry..
I see these addresses appear in the lower left corner of the IE browser as the site is loading.. just a flurry of sites..
Wonder if that's not having to do with load speeds...

Yes, I agree, I would rather he work on more important things...that's why I was asking how many people work on the site. Maybe the person responsible for that particular thing went out of town or something. But, it does happen pretty often.
Something like changing the theme, though, shouldn't take more than a second to change.
I run a really huge website so, just speaking from my own experience, there are certain things you change daily/weekly and other things that come up....and various people that handle these things.

If I'm not mistaken, Phill has posted in the forums like a gazillion times that he's the only one that works on this site... and I think he's also mentioned a gazillion times that he doesn't get paid for it?? I could be wrong here.. cuz I haven't been spending much time in the forums here anymore..
and he also does design for other sites... not just this one...
I always get quite a chuckle when I see or hear someone say this:
Something like changing the theme, though, shouldn't take more than a second to change.
because people don't seem to get that there is more than one person standing around wanting just a second of someone's time and seconds add up into minutes which add up to hours, etc...
The other day someone asked me to take care of someone that would take "just a second"... 2 hrs later.. they ran out the door while I got to finally go back to my desk to do my own job...
So yes, in theory, it may only take a second (but it's actually more like a few minutes).. but when you have a lot of others demanding "seconds" of your time.. then something has to be put onto the back burner and wait..
I'm guessing that no one will probably drop their membership due to the fact that theme doesn't get changed at the top of the page.. but there are plenty leaving because of the site's load times and lack of listens/comments because of the load times, as well as unresponsiveness by management to abuse of members by other members which is not being removed or taken care of.
SO in the realm of things.. I guess if it were me.. I'd probably be more concerned with the bigger things than something that will only take a couple of minutes.. but like I said.. what do I know... maybe I'm just crabby today... :order:

Gee - thanx all for the comments!
Yes Phill (That's me) has a full time career! Hmmm....
I know I have said it before but to help clarify things...
1) I am a Real Estate Agent in Maryland (very busy time right now!)
Anyone looking to buy or sell in Maryland? Contact me or visit my site
www.MD-RE.com (Oops - that's advertising tch, tch management will get on me about that!)
2) I also run and operate several other websites -
-- a) This one being my favorite and I spend most of my free time trying to fix things around here!
-- b) I am the only designer working on the Karaoke Scene sites but I try to get to everything. Sorry sometimes, I do forget about the little things (like the Themes! - Someone email me every Monday to remind me )
3) I am also a part-time Fugitive Recovery Agent (aka Bounty Hunter) - so sometimes I am out of town doing that as well!
4) I know that the site has been running a bit slow at times. I am working on a few modifications of scripts and have hired an outside company to review and tweak them as well. Also, in the next week we are going to be moving the sites to a dedicated server! This should help speed up things!
I may not respond often as my time is spent elsewhere but I do occassionally pop in here! (Like now) I love you folks and miss you all terribly! Sorry about not saying "HI!" more often. I am around and read as many of the posts as I can!
Thanks again - I appreciate your comments and ideas.
Phill  :need hug:

Well, it may be a gazillion times to you because you've been here a long time, but I'm relatively new to the site and the forums, so that's why I was ASKING!! Besides, I'm fairly sure there are other people who work on this site, like the people helping out with the polls to determine the weekly theme. They may not have direct access to the site, but they do still work on it. And in a PM to me, Phil mentioned other "hidden" moderators who delete posts, so he is not the only one working on the site who has access.
If Phil is the only one working on this whole site, they should try to find some more volunteers. It shouldn't be that difficult....I have 85 on my site. They're not all programmers, of course..
I have a really large site that I'm not paid for, either, so I know how these things are. However, even if you are doing it "just for fun" you still feel a responsibility to the people who visit the site (I'm sure Phil does, too).
And, also since I work on my site and all, plus with common sense, I'm fairly sure that deleting one word or line (for instance "Novelty Hits") and then typing in "Canadian Songs" or whatever, then saving the page, doesn't take more than about two seconds. He probably just forgot. That happens sometimes.
FYI on my site there are things done every day and every week. I have people who do some of those things, and I do others. We know which things are CRUCIAL and which ones are not, even when really bad things might crop up on the site or in our lives, so we always make sure we have backup in case of any problems. for instance, right now I am making all our new pages for the week...every week I have to make 100 new pages, but I know if I don't do it, then the people who write the articles for those pages will not know they are not there, and when they try to upload them on Monday, last week's article will get mixed in with this week's article, and it's a mess to sort it out. So I make sure to do this every Sunday, even though it's a pain. And if I can't do it, I have someone else do it. if neither of us could do it or find anyone else, we would contact all of the writers and tell them to email us the articles instead of using their forms to upload them. My point is, we make sure there is a backup and plan for it. it's a matter of prioritizing, of course, and I understand that what may be important to ME or YOU may not be the same thing that's important to Phil or anyone else who may work on the site.
I'm not saying this is on the same level, I'm just pointing out that I do know what I'm talking about. Anyway, i was just asking, and I did say I appreciate the site and the hard work. There's nothing wrong with a little complaining now and then and I'm certainly not the first person to do it here.
Phil, you sound like you have a very full plate! I don't know how you do it.

Suzanne.. take a look at when I joined.. 2 months before you... so if that makes me here a lot longer than you then I guess I really don't know how to tell time..
I just got done lookin at the "recent posts" list of threads posted to since my last visit which was earlier this morning and I see you've posted quite a few messages.. which is great.. but what really kills me when I see that is the fact that you dredge up REALLY old threads on this forum and reply to them as if they are on-going now.. I've seen you do this before.. and I'm not the only one that has..
So since you do that.. I would have guessed that somewhere you'd have come across the MANY times that it's mentioned how many people are Webmasters on this site.. There's a big difference between being a webmaster versus a moderator... But whatever... MY BAD...
and ya know what..........
You need to calm down a bit... no where did I say you didn't know what you were talking about but girl... I'd suggest you be careful what you assume about other people... and their knowledge levels as well... if you only knew what I do for a living... but then again... seeing how you've been with some other people.. it wouldn't matter... I still would know zero compared to your time keeping skills and your prioritizing skills.
Phill's asked for someone to email him every Monday morning to remind him to change it if you'll see his post towards the top of this page.. Since this seems to REALLY bother you that it's not changed... you may want to volunteer for that..

You may have joined two months before me, but.... I joined in October, posted songs for a while, then didn't post again until december, then took another break after that. I just didn't have time. Also, I only posted on singershowcase.com for a long time, and not these forums here because i just didn't have time to even look into them. Coming to the forums is a fairly recent thing for me (just a few months). I have not gone back and read a lot of the older posts.
I don't come on here every day like I'd like to (not enough time), so I do some catching up when I can. Forgive me if I am misreading you, but it sounds like that bothers you for some reason (feel free to tell me I'm wrong; I wasn't quite sure from your post). I don't look at or reply to really old posts....perhaps they just seem old to you because you read so much, it seems like a long while. I did post on the "too sick to sing" thread today because I have been sick, so I figured it was better to reply on there than to make a new thread that said the same thing. It was not my first visit to that thread or my first reply.
I don't really care the difference between a webmaster or moderator (they mean different things on different sites), but he had indicated that the moderators could delete posts...which to me says they have direct access to the site, so I made that assumption that he was not the only one who could make changes.
It's very insulting to tell a person to "calm down" as if they were ranting and raving. I was just replying to your comments to me. It seemed to me as if you were jumping all over me just for my short comments/complaints, even though I thought I had phrased them fairly nicely, so I was probably sounding a bit defensive when I replied to you.
You did imply in your comments that I was one of those clueless people you were talking about. I found these comments today to be pretty insulting, too, such as "seeing how you've been with some other people.. it wouldn't matter". That's just a vague insult that you know I can't defend, since I have no specific idea what you mean. If you've got issues with me or the way I have posted to others, feel free to tell me and be honest about it, and not throw around vague insults.
We are all human beings here with feelings, emotions, and points of view. We are not all equal in how we perceive each other's comments, or how good we are at arguing, or where we think the line is drawn as far as " being rude", especially in an online format where it's harder because we can't see the person's face or hear their voice to know what they really meant. So next time, please feel free to ask me or call me on it if you think I've done something wrong, but please be polite about it and not gratuitously insulting or condescending, as you have been here. And I will try to do the same!
